Remarkable performances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan, the parents, and Ed Oxenbould, as their teenage son, Paul Dano beautifully weaves a loving, yet emotionally painful, of a family in crisis, similar in many ways to Dano's own experiences growing up, this brilliant directorial debut looks into family failure with a spark of redemption through the eyes of a young man's coming-of-age experiences.
