This movie makes everyone chill like you’re in it. It is a good chilling movie

I wanted to see Jennifer Lawrence in one of her low budget films, and was pleased with the level of human interest in this movie. Her father disappears, her mother has psych problems, and Jen has to solve this. (I think some have found a similarity to Hunger Games in the family dynamic!) Don't expect sweetness and light, but it is good!

I bought this because I really like Jennifer Lawrence and I hadn't seen this movie. I thought it was just going to be a dramatic movie but it is a thriller!! I wasn't expecting it to be as thrilling as it was. It was still a great movie with amazing actors. Lawrence definitely deserved her Oscar nomination for this film.

This movie surprised me by the acting talent of Jennifer Lawrence at so early an age. After watching this you can see how see how she went on to win all these awards and is one of the most promising young actresses of today. Great movie, even better acting performance.

Small town country folk mystery movie about a daughter looking for her father before he gets captured by bounty hunters. Good pace, interesting story. Jennifer Lawrence plays her part well. Interesting what "winters bone" turns out to be.

This was a very good movie, though depressing due to the drug use and violent nature of some of the characters. It's definitely worth watching and I would recommend it- I have a weak tolerance of violence and still enjoyed the movie.

This was fabulous, especially the commentary explaining the lengths to which the crew went to catch the flavor of southern rural Missouri. It bears some similarities to Three Billboards ..., but came almost a decade earlier (made in 2010). Many of the cast were local, all the sets and dressing were local - the flavor of the locale permeates everything. It's a family crisis movie - Lawrence's character (17) has to look out for her younger sibs and her non-compos-mentis Mom after Dad gets arrested again. This also came from the bargain bin at $4.- one of my best buys in quite a while.

See this current leading lady, at the start of her career, as one of today's most promising young actresses. This initial role was followed by more studied characterizations in her more successful starring roles in 'The Silver Lining Playbook' and as the heroine of 'The Hunger Games' series. Well worth seeing her progress from ingenue in 'Winter's Bone' followed by a meteoric rise, in the manner of Meryl Streep, to one of today's finest actresses.

We purchased this movie because we saw it years ago and really liked the endurance and strength of the young girl in the story as she battles against the odds to find her missing father and keep her family together.

I bought it because the person in line with me told me about it, and then went and got it for me. Thought oh well, why not. It was better than expected. You keep wondering what will happen next!

I havent seen a good drama in awhile. I personal think the ending could have been done a little better. It basically left you wondering what about the others. Other than that it is a good drama, 7/10 for my scoring.

What a messed-up teenage life! Jennifer Lawrence and her co-star John Hawkes really made me feel for (sometimes fear) their characters. I have not read the book, but I understand that it explains some of the underlying relationships, like Ree's friendship with her high-school friend and her reluctance to have her siblings stay with one of her relatives. They used a real army recruiter in the movie and it is a touching, real moment. THIS STORY IS NOT FOR CHILDREN TO VIEW. The family relationships are too unusual to explain, and there are periods of violence/gore. Only recommended for adults.

Excellent! This is the movie that put Jennifer Lawrence on the map (and she received a deserved Oscar nomination). J-Law was terrific in the role, having to undergo a real ordeal to save her family home. Believable and realistic as opposed to the fantasy Hunger Games movies (which aren't very good IMO). John Hawkes is great too, playing a scary dude you wouldn't want to cross. I've seen him in a number of films and he's always first rate. The whole cast is quite good, and this small indy film is EXCELLENT. Holds up after 3 viewings. Watch it!

This movie was well cast for a limited production budget. The characters were easy to connect with. The ending was nothing I would have guessed, so I appreciated that.

The film efficiently portrays a dark, gritty and noirish atmosphere. The pacing is slow at times but the performances will leave you immersed with its authentic feel.
