A great little gizmo for staying active

This is my second Pulse - the first just disappeared from the belt clip, clipped inside a pocket after a month. I was sad but figured I would learn and move on with a second Pulse. This one has lasted much longer - I keep it in my pocket all day and only use the clip in the house, when I work out. It is fairly accurate and really does track steps walked accurately. I have seen it track running as well although I don't do much at present so can't say if the distances/steps ran is dead-on accurate. The sleep function is excellent and has really encouraged me to put more thought and time into going to bed on time and getting a solid 8 hours of sleep. It can track when you are awake in the night and gives separate totals for time in bed and time actually asleep, with fairly accurate reports on light and deep sleep periods (even has a pictogram showing the sleep patterns). It synchs well with the iPhone app (I don't have Android but hear it works with that too) and is a useful tool for anyone interested in increasing and maintaining activity, with the goal of an active lifestyle. I think I may buy a third - not to replace mine but because my wife is interested in it since I've had mine. Hopefully this is an indication of how highly I (we) rate them. Just keep it safe in a pocket or similar and don't ever reply on the rubber clip it comes with, especially outside of your house.

Not only did we both lose our Withings within a month, but my elevation tracker was always off for mine, and the heart rate monitor was finicky. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!! I was using the clip it comes with (attached to my jeans) and it must have popped off at some point without me noticing, and now is nowhere to be found. The SAME THING happened to my boyfriend wearing it the same way...we just lost out on like $160 :( Good product idea, but way too easy to lose...

    Excellent way to motivate yourself

Got Pulse almost two weeks ago and so far I love it. I am normally somehow active, but this device certainly made me walk more, in an entertaining way. What's great: - I like its form factor. Just pop it into pocket and forget about it. Doesn't get in a way as some wearable tracker would. - Phone app and the new dashboard are simply amazing, although they certainly could use more functionality. - It works seamlessly with android phone (and supposedly iphone as well) - The step counter is well done, showing percentage of recommanded 10k steps you walked that day. It's so great, that since I got it, I walked over 10000 steps every single day. - Walking accuracy seems to be very good - Battery life, while it may not last 2 weeks advertised, especially if you sync/measure your heart rate often, is still excellent. And it charges fast. - Ability to check 10 day history on the device is nice. So is elevation and pulse measurment. What could be improved: - Running accuracy for me (and not just for me) is way, way off. Since I've been using this device, withings added via firmware update nice "Track your run" screen, but it consistently shows over 30% more then what my GPS does. I don't expect this to be on par with GPS at all, but 30% seems a bit excessive. Makes running screen more of a fancy gimmick then anything giving useful information. - Readability outside, in sunlight, isn't exactly great. - User interface issues: Automatic synchronizaion is kind of random (sometimes it syncs in 6 hours, sometimes it doesn't for a day, although you can always force the sync manually). Also, the clock on the sleep tracking screen is a joke. It's so tiny you just have no way to see it through the mesh of the wrist band. Withings, seriously, just put it on separate screen.:) Overall, though, if you don't want to use it for precise running distance tracking, this little device is a gem and well worth considering if you're looking for a fitness tracker, or something to motivate you to be more active during your everyday activities. If you're already on Withings system, it's a no brainer!

Great new activity tracker for beginner

I just got the Withings Pulse yesterday, but so far I think it's a great activity tracker. I am new to using an activity tracker other than a pedometer, and this has all the tracking features I was looking for: activity, intensity, elevation, mileage traveled, calories burned, sleep quality/patterns, and even heart rate. I thought the sleep wristband would be really uncomfortable, but it's very lightweight and soft. The main reasons I chose this product over others in similar price ranges were because of its compatibility with older iPhone models (all of the others I checked need at least the 4s or 5), and the heart rate feature. It was very simple to set up using my iPhone. Again, I've only had it for a day but so far it's exceeding my expectations.

Good activity tracker with room for improvement

The device is well designed and seems to work reliably and accurately. It has a good set of features for any device in this category. I could not give it 5 stars for several reasons, but I think these are all areas that are likely to improve over time (including the price). These are the types of things I would like to see to get a 5 star rating: synchronization working without opening the app on the phone; improvements to the app and Web site to make it more fun to accomplish goals - this could include the addition of badges, and competition or co-op with others users (e.g. a spouse); ability to log cholesterol numbers, sugar, and triglycerides in the heart section (blood pressure is a good start); battery life more in line with 2 weeks as advertised. Overall, the Withings Pulse has helped boost my motivation to achive my weight loss goals and, in general, being more physically fit.

Not made to be worn on the wrist

I was very happy with this product and was using every day for a several months. I also have the blood pressure monitor and the scale. The App is very nice in putting it all together. However, when the wristband came out, I purchased one immediately. Big Mistake! I am a very careful user and made sure that the device never got wet. One day, while at the office, the pulse just died! I sent the unit to Withings and I was told that the device was wet and therefore broken and that they would not replace the unit (they did offer a 25% discount for a new unit). The only way that this device got wet was when I washed my hands! If you have to remove your wristband every time you wash your hands, to me that means that this product is not yet ready and should never be sold with a wristband. I hope this review helps others to be careful. Good Luck!

Need major improvement to compete against Fitbit

I'm an avid exercise tracker user. I love seeing how much I've exercised being reflected in number so I can plan my meals accordingly when I am trying to lose few pounds. I've used bodybugg in the past but after I switched over to Fitbit Ultra. I decided to give Pulse a try to see if it's something I can replace my Fitbit with. I had it 4 days and below are my impressions so far. What I don't like about Pulse: - The battery doesn't seem to last as they advertised. I charged it on Friday when I got it and by Monday morning it was giving me low battery notification. - The bluetooth sync is not always working. Many times I had to restart my phone and Pulse to make them sync. What also sucks is that bluetooth is the only way to sync data. USB cable that comes with the device is only to charge the battery. - Pulse purely calculates burned calories based on your steps. So if you're weight lifting or peddling a bike or in kickboxing classes, extra calories you burn moving your arms or other parts of the body doesn't get counted. - The calorie burn the app calculates doesn't include the resting metabolic rate. To some this may be a good thing but I rather see how much calories in total I'm burning throughout the day. - There is no way to enter workouts manually even if you have other apps such as myfitnesspal or runkeeper synced. The data from those apps doesn't seem to get pushed into Health Mate app. (I walked 2.3mi hike in which runkeeper said I burned about 200 calories. Pulse says I only burned 111 calories) - Sleep tracker doesn't seem always accurate. First night I used it, it says I've been up since 2:30AM in the morning when I actually woke up at around 7:30AM to turn off the sleep tracker. - Step counts are not accurate. I took 20 steps and Pulse said I walked 18 steps. I took 50 steps and Pulse said I took 46 steps. I was using Fitbit Ultra at the same time throughout the day and the step discrepancy do add up. Yesterday Fitbit says I walked 6664 steps. Pulse says I walked 5939 steps. I tried using Pulse on my tank top and pants and they both showed same result. What I like about Pulse: - Being able to see your data on previous days on the actual device - Heart rate monitor - though I don't use this often. To be honest it's just an added feature that's not really necessary.

I really like this product. I wanted something to check my heart rate with due to medical conditions. I also wanted to be able to monitor my sleep. This unit has worked flawlessly. I had it linked to an iPhone at first and changed it over to an android phone. It links up great with no problems. There has been one firmware update that installed itself while I watched. My only complaint is that I have to tell it when I am going to sleep, and I forget to do that. That is my fault. I do recommend this item highly. I also use the Withings BP monitor and scales. They are the most accurate I have found.

I love this product and all of the features that it offers. It's very reliable and so far its been very accurate. I look forward to using this for a long time. My only other grip is that when you want to sync it to the app, sometimes it doesn't go right away. Not a huge deal, but I'd like it to go right away. This is also replacing my Nike Fuel band.

Doesn't Work with all Fitness Apps

This is a nice tracker, if you don't have other apps that you want to communicate with (ex: My Fitness Pal). I liked the light weight small profile, sync ability is real easy, and the heart rate monitor is pretty cool. But it's functionality with My Fitness Pal is terrible.

    An interesting gadget

I have been using the Withings Pulse for last few days as well as my Fitbit One. I like the Pulse because it has a heart rate sensor. I also like the display, which lets you see the previous day's statistics. The steps measured is relatively close to my Fitbit One, but I am going to try calibrating the One and see what happens. I'm not sure if the Pulse can be calibrated. It syncs to my iPhone through Bluetooth. Sometimes it doesn't successfully pair with my phone. The Fitbit One is the winner in this category. The iPhone interface is very informative, as is the web app, but I prefer the One's iPhone and web interface. I plan on keeping either the Pulse and the One but I need a few more days using both to adequately determine which one is the best.. For the time being, the One is winning the battle.

Step-wise, this is a decent pedometer. The steps per day are usually pretty close to what my fitbit ultra has. I love that this has bluetooth and you can sync with the Healthmate app. However, I have had to reset and re-pair the device almost every time I want it to sync. I have a Withings scale, so I already use the Healthmate app and love it, so I was really wanting to love the pulse...but for $100, the only difference between this and my fitbit ultra is the ability to sync wirelessly....but as I've said, it has it's issues there too. Also, it is VERY inaccurate when giving "elevation" data. Just about everyday it has recorded me as "climbing" over 100 feet! Um, not! I detest stairs, so I have no idea where it is getting this information from. Also, you can only view your data in the app, you can not log into your account online and view data -you can't even see the device listed in the "my things" tab in the online account. You can't alter your stride length (I assume it goes based off of height), and heaven forbid you need to troubleshoot something - the only support available is via email! Needless to say, I am returning this device to best buy...I just wish I could have figured out how to remove my info off it first! There is no unlink feature in the app, and as I said, you can't even see the device in your account online. And emailing support is a waste of time....it's been a week and still no response!

    20 Steps = 60! On what planet?!?!

I will be quick to the point for everyone. Looked at two decives the Withings Pulse and Fitbit Flex. The Withings Pulse was everything I wanted synced with my Withings Scale/Apps, Touchscreen, Small, Displays readings.... Then I was introduced to Fitbit Flex and my heart was stolen. The Fitbit Flex has it's up's and downs unable to sync with HTC One non conventional pedometer having it on your wrist. But the Flex can be put in the water, don't have to forget to take off your pants. When I went to Best Buy I bought the Withings Pulse I was all in but when I got home plugged it in there were dead pixels, I put that aside and did test walks counting and checking 20 steps = 60 steps 40 steps = 35 if I'm paying $100 for a device I want as close as you can get to being accurate. I sat there and thought about it and said to myself NO I want the Fitbit Flex!! Went back to the store exchanged it right up came home synced it up with my Mac got it charged and did my test. 20 steps = 20 steps 40 steps = 38 steps. I was sold on the Fitbit Flex and I have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! The Withings Pulse has big/huge potential but until they can get a wrist band that you can wear all the time and make it water proof this device will be low on my list. I do have to say Withings customer service is great when I had a minor issue with my scale they had fast email responses and someone was on the other end of the phone. If you want the next "Apple" pedometer go with Withings they are on the right track to perfection just needs more time. If you want to go with practicality go with Fitbit Flex!

Too Easy to Loose - Poor Design of Belt Clip

Used the silicone belt clip that came with the Withings Pulse. Unit seams like it worked great and was excited to use it. However on first use as I shopped at several malls all day and at the end of the day when I got home I discovered the and Pulse unit had fallen out of the silicone belt clip at some point during the day. Silicone belt clip does not securing hold the unit. Out $100 for the product.

    Great Product Technology but Shortcomings

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Terrific technology; the application with its features is better than the competition. After much review of other fitness devices I settled on the Withings pulse, the blood pressure sleeve and the scale. The negative is the thin rubber clip and the night band with the weak Velcro strap. After approximately 4 months of normal use the wrist band and it's Velcro will not stay attached and the thin rubber belt clip starts to tear. I enjoy the technology however I would not recommend is product until the clip and wrist band are improved.

    Good Idea, Poor Reliability

I really do like the Pulse when it works. It is a full featured activity tracker with a very good supporting iPhone app. However, the problem with reliability cannot be overlooked. I have had 3 fail in 6 months, each with different problems. The last one did not work right out of the box. I would recommend looking at other brands.
