Customers enjoy the ScanWatch's long battery life and its ability to perform ECG and SpO2 measurements. Many appreciate the comfortable design and the watch's accurate heart rate tracking. However, some users find the sleep tracking feature to be less reliable and note that the watch lacks built-in GPS.

Amazing battery life + discrete design

Quick Summary: If you have wanted to get a fitness tracker but have been holding off because you wanted something with more traditional looks, this Withings Scanwatch is an absolutely amazing product. Battery life is amazing especially if you use the default settings. The Sp02 and ECG sensors are really cool and easy to use. Overall it's just an awesome watch if you aren't looking for the full smartwatch experience.
Probably the biggest benefit of the Scanwatch for most people is the subtlety of the design. It has a traditional watch face with the fitness tracker features displayed on a small cutout in the watch face. If you go with the black Scanwatch, it's even more discrete, but on my white model it is almost unnoticeable. I've had a few people notice that it's not actually a traditional watch and ask about it. It's a really cool understated design.
My personal favorite feature of the Scanwatch is the battery life. With the default settings, you should be able to go a few weeks without charging it. Even if you set it to do the sleep apnea tracking every night you can easily get over a week between charges (I think I got 10 days when set this way). I think Withings advertises up to 30 days, which is certainly believable but I haven't stretched it that far.
Using the ECG and SpO2 sensors is very easy to do and provide consistent results. By default the monitoring for breathing disorders when sleeping only happens a few times per quarter to save battery life, or you can set it to every night.
You can customize notifications to allow all phone calls or messages to vibrate on the device or you can customize the apps that are allowed to show messages. This feature works as expected but does have a battery life impact.
So far the only two negatives I have for the Scanwatch are how long it takes to charge (which is offset by the incredible battery life) and the alarm feature being a little lackluster. I'm not sure if the vibration is just not strong enough or what, but I don't think it's ever woken me up (or even gently nudged me toward waking up). For charging, if you let the watch run down to very low battery, you will need to charge it for a very long time to top all the way up. I've been just sticking it on the charger once a week or so when I jump in the shower. Used this way, 15 minutes of charging gives it another 10-15% charge, so I can go almost indefinitely before I have to fully top it up.

Asthetically pleasing, this device looks like an analog watch. But it is much, much more. Initial setup is extremely easy. After that, it will automatically track five activities that you select, track your sleep, and your pulse rate. On demand, it can track your electrocardiogram (ecg) while checking for atrial fibrillation and can also check your blood oxygen saturation percentage (spo2).
Activity tracking is very accurate for walking and cycling - much better than that provided by my charge 3 hr. Sleep tracking is ok, but not perfect as it frequently skips logging any sleep for me. While the associated Health Mate app allows you to edit a sleep log, it does not allow you to create one if no sleep log was created by the device - a mild bummer. That same app will connect to the My Fitness Pal app for the sharing of activity data and calorie consumption. However, the formula and/or data used between the two to calculate additional calories available from activity is quite mystifying. It also does not seem that the Health Mate app updates My Fitness Pal throughout the day as additional activities occur. Hopefully, this can be resolved in a future update (Fitbit got it right so Withings/Nokia can as well). Although the device does not take a blood pressure reading, the Health Mate app allows you to enter an externally obtained reading. Overall, the Health Mate app works well. I did notice a few glitches: 1) the above issue with activity calorie counting and 2) a bug encountered while editing a sleep log where after initiating an edit and then backing out, any subsequent edit sleep log will not allow an edit - you must close the app and restart it in order to edit the sleep log. The first bug is more serious than the second, but both should be resolved quickly.
A really big positive is the battery charge duration. I was accustomed to having to recharge my Fitbit at least once a week, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that this Withings device can last up to a month on a single charge - less if you take lots of ecg and/or spo2 measurements. How cool that they figured out a way to deliver so many features and still use so little battery in doing so.
The watch band is comfortable and seems durable - unlike every Fitbit device I have owned.
In summary, it looks quite good, fits and feels good, and works pretty good, too. Highly recommended.

I've been looking to upgrade my aging, existing smartwatch and the Withings Scanwatch caught my eye. I like the blending of an analog watch face with the small embedded digital display. Unlike my existing watch the Scanwatch is water resistant which is a big plus for me. The black face and band also lend an understated elegance in an age where most smart watches seem to scream "look at me!".
However, the watch's understated exterior does not mean that it's capabilities are limited at all. In fact it includes all the expected workout aids and metrics with pretty good smartphone integration plus a host of forward looking health monitoring features.
You can monitor breathing, heartrate, SPO2 and it even offers an ECG function!
The latter two measurements can be performed anytime by simply holding your hand on the watch face for 30 seconds or so. All of the metrics are captured by the Withings app and can be shared with your healthcare professional.
The watch also monitors your sleep to see if you are getting enough quality rest and also watches for breathing irregularities.
I do have a couple of minor issues with the device The rubber watchband can be a bit uncomfortable and can bind on the clasp when you are trying to put the watch on your wrist. Also, the watch's step-count function varies significantly from both my existing watch and my smartphone app. Withings support FAQ offers an explanation but it is still disconcerting!
Since the watch's software is easily upgraded through the app I am looking forward to additional functionality in the future.
If you're in the market for an advanced smartwatch this one deserves your consideration!

Withings 38mm Stainless Steel ScanWatch Smartwatch in White.
The ScanWatch is a hybrid smartwatch designed for monitoring heart health . It continuously scans vitals helping to improve fitness. It can alert a user to afib (atrial fibrillation) or breathing issues. It provides great activity and sleep tracking. For exercise it has water resistance to 50m. Battery life can be up to 30 days (awesome) before recharging is needed. It fits my wrist well, being quite comfortable. I like the esthetics of the black face better than the white. The OLED portion of the display should be larger to accommodate people with sight issues. The app is well thought out and can integrate with other apps.

I recieved this item from the best buy tech insider network to test free of charge to give my unbiased opinion. I have had minor exposure to wearable fitness devices, my wife and mother have fitbits, and I've worked with garmin devices before, but nothing of my own, nor of this caliber. I like watches, basic watches, simple hands with day and date preferably. When I was young, I had done the calculator watch and thermometer watch, but as I got older basic watches. This one got me because if you did not know it had the digital display, it would be a regular watch. The look is good, easy to read, the negative, no glow to the hands at night, so you have to rely on the digital readout. Also, no second hand, that is handy for someone like me who is in the medical field to take pulses and such. I wish they would have used that dial below for that instead of a progress meter. Seconds or date slot there, that is a better use of that realestate. The battery life is really good, for 1 weeks use the battery only went to 82% at my usage level, and charged to full in 35 minutes. For the price of this watch, I am disappointed it did not come with a metal band. If I wear plastic too long I break out. I did spend additional dollars of my own money for the metal band with adjustable clasp, and I suppose that is why they did the cheap plastic band, to sell accessories. Now for the tech portion of it, connection was simple to my phone, the instructions are all online, and the app is in either in the Google play store (what I am using) or apple store. It took me a minute to figure out what all the displays were on this. I did not find anywhere in the instructions where it said the little dial was a step progress tracker, I thought it was battery at first, but after the first half day I figured it out on my own. There was no diagram in the book showing layout of the watch with labels that I saw. Now, the Ekg and pulse ox monitor, simple and useful, the ekg reads like lead 1 on a 6 lead ekg. I have used it and tried it on family, works well. The part that I find the best for me is the sleep tracking. so far over the 10 day I have tracked, accurate. This item is a 4 out of 5 because I think the watch itself could be more of a regular watch and really set it apart from it's competators more. Having the second hand or day date instead of a progress dial would have been a 5 of 5. The progress is tracked on the digital display, so no need for the meter. The software, app, and ekg, sleep pulse ox side of things 5 of 5, no issues, they got that part right. Overall, If I were in the market for a smartwatch this would have been a frontrunner if you want to keep a formal looking watch that is appropriate for all occasions.

I will start off by saying my issues might be because this watch is too big for me? I didn't think a couple mm would make a difference, and it sits on my wrist just fine, but I can't imagine what other reason it would work so poorly. Also, another demerit - I wish they offered the smaller size for people with smaller wrists with this model like they have with previous models.
I had previously purchased a Withings Steel HR and absolutely loved that device - I hardly ever had to think about it. It was lightweight, did the smart things I wanted but still had that analog face, and lasted for days! But I was hoping for a little bit more -- some activity reminders, and the oxygen measurement seemed like a good feature.
I have had this device for about 6 months now and have started wearing my old Steel HR again. This thing is heavy, and clunky. The scroll wheel is too sensitive - when you select a workout you have to be very careful to not scroll past the workout you are after.
99.9% of the time when I try to use the ECG / Oxygen measurement feature, I receive 'inconclusive results try again'. I have tried to figure out where I am going wrong but nothing seems to consistently work -- I sit still, if it tells me to I put my hand on it, I make sure it's as level as it can be on my wrist etc.
Worst of all, this watch with original wristband has been cutting off my arm's circulation at night. I can assure you that the device is not too tight when this happens - because it has been at the same setting all day, I can stick my fingers underneath the band with no issue, and it is literally sliding around my wrist and waking me up with the green pulsing light meant to measure my heart rate. I tried purchasing a replacement band that doesn't rely on holes to tighten and that seems to have remedied the issue, though the device still slides freely around my wrist.
As for the activity reminder feature I was interested in: Even after working with support on this, the reminder is practically useless. I might have taken 6 steps in the last 3 hours and it won't say a thing all day. I literally have to be sick in bed, not moving, all morning, and then once, in the afternoon, it will suggest I take a walk. Not at all the smart reminder I was hoping for - I could do better with a reminder app on my phone.
In all, the only reason I still have this device is because the return period has passed. I try to find a good use case for it but I wouldn't miss it if I had the time/energy to sell it.

Pros:
+Battery life - after over two weeks, it’s only down to 46%
+Classy look to it. Not obnoxious like some newer watches.
+Uses standard size 18mm watch band, so you can change it easily
+New setting that will ‘wake up’ the digital display when you lift your wrist up. Although it doesn’t disable this feature during sleep hours, it'll activate whenever you move around.
+The rotating crown (not the bezel) makes it a little easier to move through the functions on the watch
+You can assign a crown long-press shortcut to quickly activate one of three functions: ECG, Oxygen Saturation, or Workout. Wish you could choose from any of the functions, such as a timer or alarm, but this is a start. Maybe they’ll expand the options in future updates.
+It paired quickly and easily with the Withings Health Mate app
+Simple to set up and use. Doesn’t require a degree in software engineering to figure out how to use it.
+Quick and easy to take ECG or O2 reading. You just start the function, put your index finger and thumb on the bezel, and sit still for about 30 seconds.
+Health Mate app is easy to navigate and focuses on health, without a bunch of bloat
+If you have multiple Withings watches, the Health Mate app seamlessly gathers data from whichever watch you happen to wear that day.
Cons:
-The included watch band is quite small.
-Can’t fully customize the long-press shortcut
-Uses a different charging base than my Withings Steel HR
-Lengthy notifications (text/calendar reminders, etc…) can be cumbersome to read
-Can’t mark a text as read
Overall, this is a great watch for anyone that just wants to get a better handle on their health. I wouldn’t say this is the perfect watch for a fitness enthusiast, but for the average Joe/Jane that wants to be more in tune with their health, this is a great solution.

I sold my 'Fruit' Watch and kept the ScanWatch

I've worn a smartwatch from a certain fruit company for the better part of 5 years before getting the ScanWatch. I got sick and tired of the increasing complexity of the fruit watch, the constant software updates (that took hours) in order to fix ever present bugs and, basically, just having a computer strapped to my wrist. I wanted something simpler that actually looked like a watch (and not a black square of glass) but still provided notifications and health and wellness features. Along came the ScanWatch which pretty much checked off every box of what I was looking for. You get a round dial with a real watch face, a simple dial to track your daily activity and a small OLED screen for notifications, step count, heart rate, etc. And, because this isn't really a computer on your wrist, battery life is killer - quoted at 30 days, which I have every reason to believe based on my limited usage so far. I highly recommend the ScanWatch.

Stylish watch held back by software

If you're looking for a stylish activity tracker that doesn't look like a smart watch, you can skip the rest of this review and go buy this watch. You won't be disappointed. For everyone else, read on.
As I mentioned above, this watch is stylish, and with the small display, most people don't even realize I'm wearing a fitness tracker. It's a nice change of pace from people commenting on the neon colored wrist bands from my previous fitness tracker. However, all is not good with this watch and it comes down to the software.
If you're part of the Withings ecosystem, you'll be familiar with the Healthmate app. I've had it installed on my phone for ages for my digital scale. However, trying to pair my watch had me frustrated beyond belief. Through research online, I found that if you get a "no data connection" while trying to pair your watch, it means your account is messed up. This appears to happen a lot if you chose to only log in with your Google account. I ended up having to create a new account to be able to pair my ScanWatch and then had to reset my scale to pair it with the new account, losing all my past data in the process.
Once in the software, you get basic items like syncing with other health services, your daily read outs, and setting your phone screens. I found this last section lacking compared to other apps and even other devices that Withings has. My scale for instance can have a screen for the local weather, but my watch has no such option. There is also no option to review current notifications from my smart device. Once you dismiss the initial notification from your watch, you'll be grabbing out your phone to review anything. That may bother those who want their activity tracker to also have more modern features of other smart watches.
I was impressed with the sleep tracker and the O2 sensor. Both work as advertised with recent updates and I could see where in the night I was having issues with my sleep. The ScanWatch comes in two sizes, but even the 38mm watch is big on an average wrist compared to other activity trackers. If you are not already used to wearing a watch to bed, you may have issues wearing this one to sleep. Also, having the O2 sensor on during sleep will drain your battery. I'm getting about 10-14 days on my current settings.
The ECG is nifty, but I don't see anyone using it more than once or twice during the life of the watch unless you already think you have heart problems. You can disable this and most other screens in your watch settings though, which does make scrolling through your stats much easier.
I look forward to seeing what Withings can do with their software in the future and hopefully they'll fix their current shortcomings. I'd still likely buy this watch again if it was based on looks alone, but I think I'd look elsewhere if it came to feature sets.

ECG doesn't work
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
My main purpose in getting this watch was to have the ECG capability. When I got the watch back in October of 2020, a device with ECG monitoring capability was pretty rare and this might have even been one of the first. So, I was very excited to get this. Unfortunately, the ECG function never worked for me and, even now after almost a year and a half of software updates it still doesn't.
I don't know if maybe I got a faulty watch since others seem to report the ECG function working, but neither I nor any other people I've had try measuring their ECG can get a valid measurement. It always fails saying it's "too noisy" or "inconclusive."
I worked with Withings support over several months and they seemed to acknowledge they had identified a problem. I waited for one software update that didn't help, then a series of other updates over the following months that also didn't fix the problem. Eventually, they stopped responding to my emails and I gave up on getting it fixed.
As a watch for telling time, it's great. The battery lasts a very long time since there's just a tiny display and it doesn't really do any of the other usual smart watch-type notification things. Unfortunately, I could just never get beyond the ECG problem so for me this watch was a waste and it's sitting in a drawer.

I was surprised by how bad my sleep quality was. I was going to bed on time to get enough sleep, but I always woke up feeling tired. Thanks to this watch I was able to keep track of how long after I went to bed until I was actually sleeping soundly, and how much actual deep sleep I was getting. I started going to bed a little bit earlier, I stopped drinking so much caffeine, and I was able to keep track of my sleep improvements. I really like the step counter, and the stairs counter, they are a great way of keeping track of my daily activity level. I found myself taking the long way around sometimes just to get some more steps. I was surprised by how far I actually walk each day, just doing my normal daily routine.
The EKG monitor is neat, but it only works if it's super quiet. I could never make it work when I was at work in the office, or at a restraunt eating. I could only get it to work correctly if I was at home and I turned everything off including the AC or any fans I had making noise.
One other thing I didn't like was that in order to get it to work correctly I had to have it very tight on my wrist. It doesn't work if it's worn loosely like a normal watch is.

Beautiful watch, but really disappointed as the step counter is not even close. I would have thought after it's long delayed introduction to the US market waiting for FDA approval as a medical device, it would have been more accurate. There is a reason the iWatch is hands down the better tracking device
