great movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I missed this film in theatrical release, but manage to watch it whenever I can on television. I recently purchased the DVD only to discover that there were several generally amusing scenes in the trailer that never made it into the movie - a bit of a mystery. The screenplay for this movie starts with a somewhat shaky premise that the means justify the end - that if you can't get an honest break but happen to work for an unethical boss who steals your ideas and gives you no credit, you can be as manipulative as you wish to get a chance to show how smart you are. This is hardly a palatable business lesson, ladies and gentlemen, and I have to fight down my qualms about this with every viewing. That said, and with that reservation, as a movie, it has a lot going for it: seamless direction by Mike Nichols; flawless ensemble acting from Melanie Griffiths, Sigourney Weaver, Harrison Ford (sigh!), Joan Cusack (with the most outrageous eye makeup in history)and people like Oliver Platt, Kevin Spacy and David Duchovny in tiny parts; great love scenes - humorous, tender and not too graphic; an optimistic ending; and one of the best songs ever written by Carly Simon. But, oh my, the beginning of this movie caught me totally off guard! In a literally breath-taking helicopter pan around Lady Liberty and New York Harbor, the shot of lower Manhattan of course comes to rest on the World Trade Center towers, soaring and golden in the morning sunlight before the camera pans down to pick up the characters commuting to New York on the Staten Island Ferry. Beautiful, timeless, tragic.

Proto-Hallmark, Oscar Winner!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie seems to be the inspiration for every hallmark movie ever made, or at least those post 1988. Sigourney Weaver plays the typical workaholic business woman who has her whole life figured out, when Melanie Griffith, working class want-to-be business woman becomes her assistant/secretary. When Griffith has a winner of an idea Weaver makes a very weak attempt to claim it as her own, but never actually doing it, just sort of has the intent to do it, until she's hospitalized after a skiing accident. The rest of the movie is about how Melanie Griffith, after discovering weaver's intent to steal her idea, pretends to a version of weaver. Then, without intent, slowly destroys her life, including having an affair with Weaver's boyfriend (Harrison Ford) only then does Sigourney actively try to take credit for Melanie's idea. Yet somehow, even with all the cliches, this movie is great. It has an honestly about it, that lesser movies don't have. Then on top of that are great performances by the entire cast.

Every one is young and gorgeous in this oldie,,,,
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great story with a really good cast. Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver and Melanie Griffith complement each other perfectly in this tale of BIG business, BIG money, BIG plot turns and a beautiful BIG romance! I bet you won't even want to get up for 'goodies' because you don't want to risk missing the next development as this story winds its way to a happy conclusion . It shows the fruits of 'honesty and hard work' can not only lead to financial reward but can nurture true love between co-workers without today's 'politically in-correct' charge of...sshh.... 'you know the words'!!! Enjoy a 'guilt-free' great romance, with this 'guilt-free' great romantic movie, with your own great-love. Life is too short, live it ,,,,now!

WORKING GIRL
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Working Girl doesn't really have many surprises up its well tailored sleeve, but it delivers on an emotional level like nobody's business. The principal cast is pitch perfect (Griffith, Cusack and Weaver all received well deserved Academy Award nominations), managing to wend through a few hoary clichés that the film doesn't seem to mind wallowing in for a while. This may not be Nichols' greatest masterpiece, but it's certainly one of his most effortlessly enjoyable films. Technical merits are excellent, and even without much in the way of supplements Working Girl comes Highly recommended.

Old film that somehow I missed?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Its a tragedy that I didn’t get a chance to see this film. For some reason it never crossed my Radar and finding it thanks to the bin with Oscar nominated films and actors I found this little jewel of a film. Its a grade a romantic chick flick that I have no complaints about.

A classic 80's movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this movie and have since I first seen it in the 80's. It is a movie that shows Harrison Ford in one of my favorite roles of his, Sigourney Weaver is great, and Melanie Grifith in her only good role in my opinion. See it if you haven't.

Older movie, but definitely worth seeing.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had watched this movie a long time ago and I liked it then, and therefore, when it came out on blueray, I bought it. After watching the movie for the second time, I still really enjoyed the movie based on the plot and the great acting.

Good entertaining fun
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a simple story that is far fetched but isn't meant to be taken too seriously and ends up being good entertaining fun. It was made at a time when the rallying cry was the recognition and empowerment of the working class.

A movie that anyone can relate to
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a tale of a motivated woman trying to make her way to the top with nothing but her wits and perseverance to make it. I believe everyone has faced that challenge in some way or another

A Head for Business and a Body for ....
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Melanie Griffith plays the part of a secretary wanting more from her career and is willing to bend some rules to advance. Harrison Ford is in the right place at the right time to help her.

Mike Nichols at his best.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked this up to see another movie in the Mike Nichols filmography and it's a curious movie, a satire of the 80s corporate world. I think that's part of the appeal though.
