I was a bit surprised when I took the WORX WG384 40V 14" Cordless Chainsaw with Auto-Tension out of the box because it looked so much like, well, a chainsaw! I know that probably sounds a bit strange, and I'm not sure exactly what I thought it would look like in real-life, (not just what it looks like in the photos), but because it is cordless and electric, I just didn't think it would look so "normal." But it does. Not only does it look like a chainsaw, it feels like a chainsaw...it is hefty, and all the controls are in the same place as you would expect to find them on a gas-powered chainsaw. But I don't want to dwell too much on the way it looks or how it "feels," so I will get right into the meat of this review. The WORX weighs in at a little over ten pounds with no bar chain oil in the tank, but even when filled, it adds only 5.4 ounces which brings the total weight to a little less than 11 pounds. I say this only to point out that I felt a whole lot better about the saw seeing as it wasn't simply made of cheap plastic and metal. It has quite a substantial feel to it. I have owned gas-powered chainsaws before, so I was pleased to notice that the WORX, at the very least, appears to be very well-made. Included along with the WORX chainsaw is the blade cover, two batteries, a dual-battery charger, and various paperwork including Quick Start Guide, precautions, etc. For the most part, there is no real setup needed. The instruction manual stated the chain had to be installed by the user, but the chain actually comes pre-installed, and pre-lubricated. All that is required is to charge both batteries and to fill the oil reservoir with bar-chain oil. I'm not really sure how long it took to fully charge the batteries as I placed them on the charger just a little while before bedtime. When I woke up the next morning, they were both fully charged. Before using for the first time, I went over the setup instructions one more time to make sure I didn't miss anything. I then went outside to see how the WORX chainsaw lived up to its hype. I have about thirty to forty trees on my property, so finding something to cut up was easy, even more so since I had two trees blow over in a recent storm. I would like to point out that WORX included a section in its manual outlining the proper way to use the chainsaw when cutting felled trees and limbs. Its quite helpful, and if you don't have much experience using a chainsaw, I highly recommend reading the manual for a good basic understanding of how to cut properly. Frankly, I was impressed by just how much power this saw possesses. It cut through several limbs and I also made several cuts on the felled trees, and it held up remarkably well. Being that it is a 14" chainsaw, it does have its limitations, but for the purpose of seeing what it could do, I pushed it quite hard during one cut on a 12-13" tree. It did bog down a couple of times, but that had more to do with the weight bearing down from the tree, and this would have caused even a gas-powered larger chainsaw some issues. But using a wedge, I managed to finally get the tree cut down with no major issues. The WORX held its own during my testing. In fact, like I said before, I was truly impressed and appreciative of its power. I was also impressed by how relatively quiet the WORX is. Being accustomed to gas-powered chainsaws, I was expecting quite a bit of noise. The batteries held up amazingly well. I wasn't too sold on the idea of a battery-powered chainsaw, but its obvious WORX knows what they are doing. I used it fairly constantly for about an hour, sometimes pretty hard, and it didn't quit. The battery indicator was on the last light, so it was getting low. Also, I like the way they incorporated the dual-battery power concept into the design. More power, longer battery life. Can't beat that! Overall I am quite pleased with the WORX WG384 40V 14" Cordless Chainsaw. Its durable, powerful, extremely well-built, and its electric. It doesn't get much better than that with power tools. PROS: Great design Environmentally friendly Well-built and durable Easy setup, easy storage, low maintenance. Automatic tension function CONS: Chain Brake Lever was difficult to engage. I thought at first it was not functioning, but after exerting a bit more pressure it finally engaged. The blade guard (used when storing chainsaw) is difficult to take off and put back on. This is a great addition to anybody's home tool collection. It is perfect for around the house and farm. It cuts great, is quiet, and very inexpensive to operate. I absolutely recommend this to anyone looking to purchase a home/farm oriented chainsaw.

So starting off with the Worx chainsaw I will say, we’ve always used Husqvarna gas chainsaws, so my expectations were low. I wanted an electric option for a few reasons but mainly for the ease of operation for me to use vs my husband, the weight of the chainsaw and the lower maintenance options since we didn’t have to worry about gas or carburetor issues. Upon opening the box, I found the saw fully assembled with a blade cover as well as the two 2.0 Ah batteries and dual charger base and of course instruction manuals. In comparison to our Husqvarna saw, the Worx chainsaw was SO much lighter. Weighing in at about 10 pounds, I absolutely loved handling it. Operation: I finally feel like I can help when my husband is outside clearing our new property. To get me started with using it, we did have to go buy bar oil and grease which wasn’t included. My husband showed me how to use the tensioning knob to ensure the chain was tight upon use. Before using it each time, I always make sure that chain is tight. I can just push the trigger, and it cuts so easily. My absolute favorite part is how quiet this thing is and I don’t have a bunch of smoke from the engine and gas in my face. I used the saw to cut off the branches and to cut some of the trees we dropped that were approximately 10-14” in diameter. I really like how safe I feel when using it and as soon as I lift my finger from the trigger, that chain stops! I’ve now used this chainsaw 6 times over this weekend and I feel like a lumber jack. LOL. Having two batteries allowed me to help my husband for a straight 4-5 hours. If one started to feel like it was weakening, I’d switch batteries and continue on. I probably could’ve cut longer but my back wouldn’t let me…not the chainsaws fault of course. Overall, this saw is awesome and is a great bang for your buck. The price point I felt was very fair for what I received and the quality of the Worx chainsaw even in my husbands eyes, who doesn’t feel the electric options are great, was impressed. Ladies…if you want a great option for cutting with little to no stress with getting started each time, this is your chainsaw!

    Quiet, Efficient, Reliable

This is a really nice medium-duty chainsaw to add to your tool collection. It is very simple to get it going right out of the box once you charge the 2 included 20V batteries. The only thing you will need to buy separately is chain oil. The application of the chain oil is simply through a single chamber that will lubricate the whole chain during operation. The chain-tightening/loosening dial is very easy to use, but I have had trouble getting the chain as tight as I would like (as shown in the instructions). I have had the chain slip off when using it in some brushy areas. That is my only complaint. Using the saw to cut down branches of all sizes and small-to-medium size trees is quick and efficient. The saw is so quiet compared to a gas chainsaw. It is steady while cutting without giving you much chatter back at all. The battery life will get you through multiple trees, so unless you have a small forest to cut down you won't have to worry about not having enough juice. The safety brake is easy to use and works reliably. The push button start definitely beats having to choke and pull the cord like a gas saw!

    Convenient Cordless Chainsaw!

The WORX WG384 40V 14" Cordless Chainsaw is a very convenient, easy to use tool that will easily handle all my home chainsaw needs. After testing it out, following are my observations: - It comes nicely packaged and already assembled. In the box you get the chainsaw, blade protection cover, dual charger, 2 - 20V, 2.0Ah batteries, instruction booklet and a quick start guide. The only thing that was missing was blade and chain lubricant, so I had to make a separate trip to the hardware store to pick up the lubricant before I could use it. It would be nice if they would include at least a small bottle of lubricant in the package so it could be used right away, or make it clear on the packaging that lubricant needed to be purchased separately. - The dual charger is nice so you can charge both batteries at the same time. You use both of the 20V batteries at the same time, which gives you 40V of power, more than enough to cut a significant amount of wood. - It takes about an hour to fully charge the depleted batteries. When fully charged, the batteries last for about 30 minutes of cutting. There is a battery indicator to show how much charge is left on the batteries. - The WORX chainsaw comes with a 5 yr warranty. It seems to be a well-made, solid piece of equipment, but the 5 year warranty is a nice feature. - This chainsaw weighs just over 10 pounds. - It has some nice safety features. It has a quick-stop chain brake that is easy to engage or disengage. There is also a button that needs to be pushed in so that you can pull the trigger, so this would make it difficult to accidentally pull the trigger while carrying it. - It has an automatic, tool-free chain tensioning system. You just flip up a little handle and turn it clockwise until the chain is at the desired tension. This is very nice. The previous chainsaw I owned had to be taken apart in order to tighten the chain and it wasn't a quick, easy process. This is also a safety feature, because the chain needs to be kept at the appropriate tightness. I feel like the ease of use on this tensioning system will make people more likely to tighten the chain to a safe level, as opposed to chainsaws like the one I had before, when I would run it with a chain that was probably a little too loose at times, because it was too time-consuming to take it apart and tighten it regularly. - It also has automatic chain lubrication, just fill up the reservoir and it automatically lubricates the chain as you use it. - It comes with a nice, hard plastic, blade protection cover for when you are storing it. - The 14" Chainsaw can cut a log up to 26" in diameter by making cuts from each side of the log. This will easily handle all the normal use I have around my house. Typically I will be using it to cut up branches that have fallen and the 14" blade will handle nearly all of that by making one cut straight through. - Having a cordless chainsaw is very convenient. My previous chainsaw was electric and it was always a hassle to drag around the electric cord, especially if I was cutting branches from trees at the back of my property and needed to string together multiple cords. A gas powered chainsaw also means more maintenance and tune-ups and purchasing gas. Having a battery operated chainsaw is great! Very low maintenance, and easy to carry anywhere on my property to get busy cutting. I'm really liking this WORX 14" Cordless Chainsaw! The cordless aspect and the ease of the auto-tensioning system make this a very quick and convenient tool to use and perfect for a homeowner doing normal tree and branch maintenance around the home.

    A Good Small Project Saw

Worx WG384 14” 40 volt Chainsaw I have used both gas 2-cycle and Plug-In Electric chainsaws. I also own a Worx Plug-in Jaw Saw that is my favorite. This is my first Battery operated Chainsaw. They all have their advantages and disadvantages as well as differences between manufactures within each category. I find it virtually impossible to have any one saw hit all the marks for all the projects out there. If you don’t like to mess with gas and oil or the smell of 2-cycle exhaust you likely need to stay clear of gas, even though those models usually have the most power and fastest cutting speeds. If you don’t like to use an extension cord or don’t have one long enough, then you probably won’t want an electric plug-in model, even though they can run forever not needing to be refueled or recharged So that brings us to the cordless battery models like this Worx saw. I see it as a “convenience saw”. It’s light weight with good balance, and decent features. It has a comfortable handle with easy to use controls. With lithium batteries, it’s virtually ready to cut at a whim. It’s quiet, and shouldn’t disturb the neighbors. It’s so portable you can take it on a camping trip or to the back of a large property where there is no plug. You can keep it in your vehicle for whenever you might need it. It’s light at 10.6 pounds and it’s definitely convenient! Even though it does have a 14” bar, I don’t see it as a good choice for projects much over 8 inch cuts. Its blade speed is slow compared to the other choices out there. The included chain has small teeth and is narrow. You will get tired waiting for large cuts to finish. It will eventually complete the cut, but if you are making several large cuts, you will deplete the batteries and you will be on a break. Incidentally, the batteries are labeled as 18 volt X 2 amp 36 watt hour, 20 volt max?? I found the run time averaged about 20 minutes total and roughly 1 hour to charge both batteries in the dual charger provided. I was disappointed that a small bottle of oil was not included in the package. I did not like the oil fill on the side of the machine rather than on top where it would be less likely to leak. There is also no “o” ring in the cap to seal it better. I noticed fairly large slots in the saw and the batteries for ventilation. I worry about sawdust, dirt, and possible light rain getting into those slots. The chain tensioner works easily, but you really need to watch the chain while you use the saw and keep it tensioned. It has a tendency to loosen quickly. The blade guard is plastic, and you really need to be aggressive to snap it into place in order to use the saw. Once you figure it out, you should be good. CONCLUSION: This is a handy, compact, and light weight saw to use for small to medium projects around your yard or farm. It’s a great saw to have on hand for those occasional “Weekend Warrior” projects. It’s quiet, and well balanced for those quick pruning cuts around the yard. I would not recommend it for cuts larger than 8-9 inch unless you take it slow and have the patience. I would recommend it to a friend that was aware of its limitations.

    Easy-to-use quiet battery-powered chainsaw

I've owned gas-powered and electric (corded) chainsaws and wanted to see how battery-powered chainsaws compared. I've never liked gas chainsaws for the simple reason that if you don't use them often, they're a pain to keep running and have to be cleaned pretty often. Plus you have to keep the gas and oil handy and fresh for use. Corded electric chainsaws are okay, but obviously you need to have a cord trailing you and a power source nearby. I've been switching to battery-powered outdoor equipment, since batteries have gotten so much better recently. The Worx chainsaw comes with two 20-volt batteries that attach on both sides of the saw, combining for 40 volts of power (you have to use both all the time). The batteries have a push-button meter on them that lets you know how much power is remaining. It comes with a two-battery charger, so you can charge both batteries at once. The saw was completely assembled in the box, so all I had to do was attach the batteries and add bar and chain oil (not included, but I had on hand from my previous chainsaw) and I was ready to go. I had a few six-inch-thick limbs that had either fallen from trees in my yard or needed to be cut off trees. The chainsaw handled the limbs easily, with no issues. I cut the limbs up and pruned some other smaller branches that were too low to the ground. In all, I was using the chainsaw for a couple of hours off and on, and only used one-third of the charge. One thing I like is that compared to a gas chainsaw, when you're not pulling the trigger mechanism, the battery chainsaw is off. With a gas chainsaw you would have to either let it idle or turn it off when not using it, then start it again. The battery chainsaw is also very quiet compared to a gas chainsaw. The chain came off at one point when I was cutting. Putting the chain back on is a simple task, you turn the circular crank on the right side of the saw to take off the chain housing, put the blade back on and then re-tighten it. No tools necessary, which is nice, plus it makes for easy cleaning. The Worx chainsaw is very safe, you can lock/unlock the saw with the chain brake bar on top. To start the saw after the chain brake is unlocked, you have to push a button on the side of the handle, then pull the trigger. You can release the side button after the trigger is pulled.

    Nice Little Chainsaw!

The Worx 14" cordless chainsaw is a pretty nice package. It is self-lubricating and auto tensioning. It comes complete with two 20v/2AH batteries and a charger. There is no case or storage bag. I've used gas and corded electric chainsaws in the past, but this was my first cordless chainsaw. We have about a dozen fruit trees and a couple of shade trees, so I don't need a chainsaw often, maybe once or twice a year. Gas chainsaws are noisy, smell, and gum up if you don't start them often. Corded electric are quiet, but you have to deal with a cord. Out of the box, you get the two batteries charging, run out and get some chain oil which is not included, grease the bar, add oil to the lubrication reservoir, set the chain tension and you are set to go. You will need appropriate safety equipment, goggles, and gloves. Safety first! First thing you'll notice is that the Worx is quiet. You hear the chain, but that's about it. Your neighbors will appreciate it. Out to the trees, I was able to thin the trees, branches to about 3" thick, on one battery charge. I was surprised at how long the batteries were able to power the saw. I was out for over an hour going from tree to tree and the saw kept running. The saw is lighter than a comparable gas chainsaw and balances nicely. The next day I helped a neighbor cut back their mulberry tree, which had grown tall enough to shade our roof and solar. A hand saw wasn't going to do it... The only downsides to the Worx is that the batteries are proprietary, as with all battery powered tools. The good news is that the batteries can be used across the Worx line. The batteries do take about an hour to charge from fully depleted. Overall, though, I'm very pleased with the Worx cordless chainsaw. If you're considering a cordless chainsaw, definitely add the Worx to your short list.

    Powerful Battery Saw!

I have a small woodworking shop and have a lathe that I turn wood bowls, I had been researching battery powered chainsaws for some time. I have two name brand gas powered chainsaws, but the problem is I don’t use them all the time and when I need them I have found it’s sometimes difficult to start them. Hence, I needed a battery powered saw. This is a powerful saw and the great thing is I don’t have the smell and the smoke of using the saw indoors. Worx has hit a homerun w/ this saw. I love the fact it comes w/ dual batteries and a dual charging system. Worx has included everything that you need to have this saw operational out of the box. It is very lightweight and very well made. I was pleasantly surprised at how powerful this saw is. I didn’t think it would stand up to gas powered saws, but it does and it does it very well. I have used it several times to cut wood into smaller sections that allows me to place it on my lathe, and I love the chain tension system that Worx has incorporated in this saw. I allowed the batteries to fully charge and have used it to cut several branches that were overhanging in our driveway. I could not have performed that task w/ the gas saws due to the fact that they are just so heavy. You can use this saw on any project that you could use a gas saw and you will not have to worry will it have the power to perform it, it will. With the added benefit that I don’t have to purchase gas and oil to mix and have to store it in my building. I had never tried Worx products before, but I am hooked and convinced that their products are very well made. If you need a chainsaw and don’t want the mess of gas, then I recommend purchasing this Worx battery powered chainsaw!

The WORX - WG384 40V 14" Cordless Chainsaw with Auto-Tension (2 x 2.0 Ah Batteries & 1 x Charger) - Black is a great alternative to a gas powered chainsaw requiring much less maintenance/preparation and creating less of a mess than a gas powered chainsaw. With its two batteries and fast charging and auto tensioning, it can handle jobs normally performed by gas powered chainsaws. First use is very easy. Simply remove it from the box, make sure it is oiled (oil not supplied) and the batteries are charged, and you are ready to go. The chainsaw is reasonably light and well balanced and since there is no cord, it is easy to maneuver. My initial use was to cut some small limbs off trees and to cut down some two to three inch diameter trees. These tasks were easily handled by the WORX chainsaw. I then cut kdown some larger trees and cut them into firewood. This was also not a problem although I would say that if you cut very large trees or rely on firewood as your primary source of heat, you may want to consider a slightly more powerful chainsaw. In summary, I recommend the WORX chainsaw to anyone wanting to avoid the maintenance and mess of a gas powered chainsaw who has medium size jobs where a gas powered chainsaw may not be necessary. I need a chainsaw to cut down some trees in my aunt's yard. Never in a million years did I think define as much comfort as I did in an electric chainsaw compared to a gas one. I was really surprised how powerful this was only be an electric! I also love the fact that it comes with two rechargeable batteries that actually last very long time! The trees and my aunt yard weren't very big but a nuisance nonetheless. I was able to make quick work of the trees and cut them down it's very small pieces to be told her the way by the city workers. I have a few smaller trees at my own personal house that I want to cut down as soon as it stops raining. I am now convinced to try other all electric machines like lawnmowers and if they have snowblower's too! The one thing that I didn't like about this particular chainsaw, is the fact that it's seems to be made for someone who's left handed. I hope that with their future chainsaws, that they make them more ambidextrous. I believe this may hurt sales slightly, but if they just get used to it like I did, he should be fine. This chainsaw is A+ in my book!

Two comments off the bat: This is a very nice small chainsaw, and the box does not include everything needed to actually start using it. To the second point first, the saw requires chainsaw oil, and none is included in the box as the instructions note. Unfortunately, there is no mention of this anywhere on the exterior of the box, so many people, unless they know more about what chainsaws normally come with than I do, will buy the chainsaw, get it home, and then discover that they have to go back to the store to buy some oil. In recent months I have purchased new both a lawn mower and a snowblower, and both came with a bottle of oil so that all that was needed to get up and running was to do any necessary assembly and then add gasoline, which you expect to have to do. I don’t see why a chainsaw manufacturer couldn’t include a small bottle of oil as well, or at least put a note on the box saying "oil not included.". The above being said, and as I noted initially, once set up, this is a very nice saw. You’re not going to be a modern-day Paul Bunyan with it, but for occasional clean-up of dead branches or trees or trimming logs for fireplace use, etc., this saw will work fine. I had no trouble cutting up a few thick branches and logs in short order. The saw is just as fast as gas-powered saws that I have used. Set-up is easy. The saw is electric and requires two batteries, both included in the box, and the charger also included can charge both batteries simultaneously. The instructions note that the batteries need to be charged before first use, and I found that it took about an hour to do so. The saw comes with the chain already installed, so all that is needed to get up and running is to make sure the chain is tight, which is done by simply turning the knob on the gear cover, adding oil, and attaching the charged batteries. So, as long as you have oil, you can be up and running from new in a little over an hour. I haven’t had the saw long enough to see how much use can be gotten before the batteries need to be recharged, but a quick hour recharge is hardly an inconvenience in any event. For those small chainsaw-required jobs, this saw will work fine, and it’s nice not to have to deal with a gasoline engine.

Full disclosure this is my first electric chain saw. Compared to a gas saw this might be slightly lighter with less maintenance required. It comes fully assembled and once you charge the batteries its ready to rock. Follow the instructions to make sure you go through the saw quickly to ensure its fully ready. After looking at what comes in the box, you will need to purchase quality bar oil which is available at any local hardware store. Another great feature is this saw uses universal bar and chain sizes so you will be able to have access to those also normally on the shelf at your local hardware store. There was a slight learning curve trying to appreciate the auto tensioner that kept the chain taught on the bar. Sometimes after a few thicker cuts it was necessary to make adjustments to ensure the chain was tight. The single fastener worked while wearing gloves so these adjustments were quick but make sure to monitor chain tightness. Fit and function is pretty impressive compared to a gas saw, there is nothing to get hot and its neat to not have to hear the engine running constantly when working on a project. Full disclosure, it was nice not having to worry about ear protection. For normal/average usage the run time from the batteries allowed me to work outside for hours cleaning up and trimming trees around the yard. The saw is balanced and seems to have enough power from the brushless motor to tackle 8+ inch thick logs. My family enjoys spending a bunch of time outdoors camping and exploring and this will have a home in our gear bin. I always split wood with a hatchet or maul but now due to how quiet this chainsaw is will be utilizing it on a regular basis. Pair this awesome tool with a 5 year warranty and batteries that fit in any of the Worx tool line up is a winning combo!

The Worx cordless chainsaw was perfect for what I needed for my home. I am familiar with chainsaws but did not want to go gas powered as I live in a regular neighborhood and need to keep my 3 oak trees and multiple Crape Myrtles in check. I own an electric (corded) chainsaw and hate being limited in range by the extension cords and also the added weight when on the roof to clear encroaching branches. Mind you, in the box, you have everything but 1 very important thing to get started. That is chain oil. No where I found on the box that says you are going to need it so keep that in mind to prevent an unnecessary trip. Since I already own a chainsaw, I had no issue. Included is a dual charger for both battery packs that are packaged in the box. My initial charge on both batteries took about an hour and 10 minutes. As I was spending my day solely sawing away all the branches from my trees to get ready for brush pickup, I would say for my needs, the battery life is rather good. I wouldn't recommend if you are going to attempt felling whole trees as you will be charging the battery more than sawing the actual tree. After trimming branches on and off, battery life depleted around the 2 hour mark. Charging was quick so I could get back to cutting tree limbs. I just started bundling and cleaning up the chopped branches while waiting for the batteries to recharge so not too big a deal. For someone who needs to have branches away from the house because of HOAs or insurance companies like me, then this Worx is perfect. I can definitely recommend it.

I was skeptical at first that a battery powered chain saw could compare with a corded or gas powered one, but Worx proved that they could pull it off. The unit itself has some heft to it, even without the batteries, which I enjoyed. Having the extra weight meant that the unit did not bounce around as much while using it. The one time it did bounce, my front hand bumped the safety plate at the front and ended up turning the unit off immediately. It may not have been the intended use for that plate, but a win is a win. The oil reservoir was easy to top off and so far I haven't seen any leaks with the unit. It would have been nice if a tiny bottle had been included, but almost any hardware store carries it, so that's not too much of a hassle. Having these batteries be compatible with other Worx 20v and 40v units is a nice touch. You are buying into their ecosystem of tools, but I have yet to have a bad one so far. My previous ones are corded, so I look forward to trying out more of the cordless models. All in all, if you're looking for a reliable unit for light cleanup work, I highly recommend this unit. It's small enough to keep in a work truck or under a garage work bench, while being strong enough to easily cut through tree branches and trunks. Read the safety manual before use though as chainsaws are never forgiving if you play around with them.

I have an electric chainsaw that I really like but sometimes the extension cords won't reach where I need to go. I didn't really want a big gas one, so this guy is the solution! It's pretty much set up out of the box, just know it needs bar oil and none comes with it. The first thing I noticed when pulling it out of the box was the big knob on the side. For the chain tension. What a great idea! Soo much easier than having to get out tools to do that. I like how the batteries just easily slide onto the charger, no stupid clips and button that get jammed up. The batteries charge up pretty quick, about an hour. I will definitely get another set tho. Depending on what your cutting, they last about half hour to 45 minutes. You do have to use both batteries, it doesn't work with just one. So far the biggest thing I've cut were small trees about 6"-8" in diameter. The chainsaw worked great on those. The weight it good too, pretty lightweight. Of course if you get higher amp hour batteries it will get a bit heavier. Worx makes more tools that work with the same type of batteries like ryobi does, I will definitely look into getting more outdoor toys from them!

Nice light-weight saw, if it didn't throw the chain constantly. I'd love to return this thing, but I'm guessing I cannot do that. Now I have to go buy another chainsaw-this one is useless, The chain jumps off every few minutes of use.
