While many products are getting smaller, Ninja is going bigger with their latest slushie machines. The Ninja Slushi Smart XL holds 128 ounces of fluid to make slushies right at home. If you ever host throughout the summer (or colder months), you'll be able to make many refreshing drinks for everyone. We have four in our family, but luckily, our two kids love having friends over often, so it doesn't seem too big for us.
After unboxing, it's easy to see how user-friendly and efficient it is. The setup process is straightforward, and the included instruction booklet is a fantastic resource if you get overwhelmed by the different parts. But it's self-explanatory. The build quality seems great as well. A lot of plastic parts, but sturdy. Nothing feels flimsy or fragile.
While testing the Slushi Max, I prepared enough for four 20-ounce drinks. Since I didn't have any specific slushie mix on hand, I decided to use a large container of organic cranberry juice, which naturally contains a lot of sugar. However, I also added lemonade and water, and a few grams of cane sugar. That makes it easy in my book regarding ingredients.
Although this machine comes with 10+ recipes to help get you started, the "Slush Assist" feature makes it easy if you don't want to put too much thought into it or experiment. The Slush Assist will allow the machine to handle the heavy lifting of determining what the drink needs. It'll instruct you, for example, if it needs more sugar.
In terms of speed, the machine does a solid job; you can whip up drinks in about 12 to 15 minutes. The texture ended up perfect. It wasn't too thick or too watery. It'll bring back those memories of 7-11 trips as a kid. It has a big reservoir that can hold enough for 12 to 15 drinks at once, so you can make a bunch or just a few, depending on how many you're serving. It does make some noise while running, but it's rather quiet compared to what you'd expect.
One thing that might intimidate you is the cleanup process. I know I felt that way when unboxing it. It's something I always dread, especially when it comes to dealing with sticky juice and sugar. However, to my surprise, cleaning up after using the machine is quite easy. Just fill the machine with warm water, run a rinse cycle, drain it, and then wash it normally. You can even repeat this process if you are worried it wasn't clean the first time, but I can attest to the results after one rinse. Ninja specifically made it easy for users to clean, as that was one of the drawbacks of the first generations of slushie makers.
The reservoir is the only tricky part, as it doesn't have many nooks and crannies, but it can be awkward to handle when it's wet and soapy. I place it carefully in the sink and clean it there. That will keep it contained. The internal spiral has some tight spots that require careful scrubbing as well. Still, these minor cleaning challenges are manageable and completely worth it for the amazing drinks you'll create.
One thing about owning one of these is that you won't use it every day, so cleaning it won't become an annoying daily practice. Using it weekly or even bi-weekly will help you worry less about cleanup. But by all means, use it however much you want to.

📦 UNBOXING:
Inside the box, you’ll find the cooling system with integrated power cable, the 128 oz vessel with spout, a drip tray, a quick-start guide, detailed manual, and inspiration guide.
🛠️ SETUP:
Setup is quite easy, thanks to the instruction guide and stickers on the machine. On the machine itself is a sticker that says the machine must be upright for at least 2 hours before first use. You’ll want to clean the reservoir before first use, and maybe run a single rinse cycle with warm water to clean the auger, but after that, you’ll be good to go.
There’s a lever on top to secure and release the reservoir, and there’s a drip tray under the auger to catch any leftover slush when removing the reservoir. Do note, you shouldn’t remove the reservoir until you’ve fully rinsed + emptied it out with warm water. Removing the reservoir while there is a lot of liquid or slush left can create a mess—especially if it’s all still liquid. Just use the spout handle and rinse mode (if necessary) to let out any contents before removing the reservoir.
🎛️ CONTROLS:
The Slushi XL has some very basic controls. There’s a power button, temperature controls, a rinse button which just spins the auger, a SlushAssist button, and 5 presets. The display also shows you when the Slushi XL is actively sensing, when sugar is too low, when liquid is too low, and when it’s ready to enjoy.
The Slushi XL has the following presets:
“Slush”: designed for most regular beverages like soda or lemonade.
“Spiked”: designed for beverages with up to 15% ABV.
“Spiked Max”: designed for beverages with up to 20% ABV.
“Milkshake”: designed for beverages with dairy and/or creamer.
“Frozen Juice”: designed for naturally sweetened beverages.
Each preset has a specific default optimal temperature that it targets. Frozen Juice has the lowest temperature target, then Slush, then Milkshake, then Spiked and Spiked Max.
✨ SLUSHASSIST:
The Slushi XL has a new “SlushAssist” preset which can be a great starting point for slushing any type of beverage. It spends the first 10-15 minutes trying to sense the freezing point of the liquid mix, and will try to slush accordingly. In my experience, I found that SlushAssist could sometimes yield a thicker texture compared to my preferences, but I could always drop the temperature later to reach my desired texture, then use that as my target on the “Slush” preset or other preset. It’ll really depend on the ratio of your ingredients, but I did find it to be a helpful starting point.
So for me, the SlushAssist can be a good entry point or even the kid-friendly option, but if you really want to dial in the perfect consistency, you’ll likely do more tinkering with other presets.
🍸 SLUSHING:
To create a slush, you need a minimum of 4.5% sugar content (by volume) in your liquid mixture before slushing. More sugar will yield better results when slushing, but obviously that may not be suitable for everyone’s diet. Many naturally sugared beverages won’t need added sugar, making them an easy 1-ingredient slush. It’s also important to note that you’ll need a minimum of 24oz liquid to slush in the Ninja Slushi XL, and it supports a maximum of 96oz liquid, as slushing may expand to use the full 128oz reservoir.
To get started, you’ll want to make sure you mix all your ingredients first. This means if you use dry ingredients like table sugar or dry allulose, you’ll want to mix it with your liquid ingredients and make sure they are dissolved. Also, do not use hot ingredients, as that may take far too long to slush and will likely trigger errors with the Ninja Slushi after it fails to reach the desired temperature after long. Similarly, you do not want to put ice or solid ingredients into the Slushi, as that can cause the auger to get stuck.
Once your ingredients are mixed, simply pour it into the reservoir, power on the machine, press your desired preset, and it will begin the slushing process.
When slushing with an already cold mixture, the slushing process can go very quickly. In my experience, a smaller 24-32 oz volume could reach my perfect slush texture in less than 10 minutes. The required time will increase as you use higher volumes of liquid, but if you start with a cold mixture, you’ll reach temperature much faster.
🍬LOW SUGAR OPTIONS:
For a low sugar option, you can use liquid allulose to slush your beverage, but the ratios and temperatures will be much more variable in my experience. With allulose, you may need to use lower temperatures to prevent the mixture from clumping, but for a better option, incrementally add in a teaspoon of food-grade vegetable glycerin to prevent it from chunking up. This makes a huge difference when using allulose. You’ll need to find a ratio that works best for you, but the combination of allulose and vegetable glycerin is a great way to make a low-sugar slushie.
As a type 1 diabetic myself, I don’t love the idea of needing to add a bunch of sugar to my slushie when most of the beverages I want to slush are zero-sugar or low-sugar to begin with. Ninja doesn’t mention using glycerin in their manual, but I’d argue that it could be necessary when using allulose if you want a smooth slushie consistency when making low-sugar slushies.
🍹 ALCOHOLIC SLUSH:
In my experience, alcoholic slushies have also been great with the Ninja Slushi XL. While I haven’t tested the higher ABV limits, I have tried (2x) 12oz hard seltzers (100cal each) with a few oz of lychee-flavored soju, a couple oz of premade limeade mix, and 3 tbsp of sugar. SlushAssist did quite well for me with this concoction, and it was very delicious.
I also tried a (2x) 12oz zero-sugar root beer + 3oz vodka with 2.5 tbsp of sugar, which was also a successfully tasty concoction.
🧐 CONCLUSION:
The Ninja Slushi XL is an easy-to-use slushie machine. And thanks to its larger reservoir, it can be great for families or parties. And because it can slush quickly with a cold liquid mixture, it won’t take terribly long to serve up, either. Beverages with higher sugar content slush with ease, while low-sugar beverages will need some tweaking to get the right texture. It’s easy to rinse and clean, and the online community around the Ninja Slushi product line easily fills in the gaps where Ninja’s own guides come up short. I’m looking forward to using mine over the coming months and years.

Perfect Slushies Every Time with SLUSHASSIST

We’ve been planning a string of events for the summer but wanted to get something to help in the hosting that would be more than an alcoholic drink machine, so we could have fun for all ages and preferences. I had been eyeing the Slushie machines for a while, so when I saw Ninja was releasing a Larger Slushie machine I finally decided to grab one.
Pros:
- SLUSHASSIT makes it easy.
- Makes perfect slushie consistency with almost any drink.
- Cleanup is easy.
Cons:
- None.
Setup:
Setup is straight forward thanks to all the included stickers on the device. Ninja knows you probably won’t reach for the manual first, so they’ve smartly placed stickers to guide you through the first setup. The most important sticker not to miss is the one about letting the SLUSHi sit for 2 hours before plugging it after moving it. This is to ensure any coolant that might have moved up through the compressor during moving settles back into the tank, same rules apply for any cooling device with a compressor. While I waited, I washed all the parts that would be in contact with the drink per recommendations by the sticker on the drink container (also mentioned in the manual). Once dry, I reassembled the machine.
Use:
After waiting the 2 hours for the coolant to settle, I decided to try the most straight forward approach of just adding a drink and seeing how it went. Surprisingly, it turned out near perfect. I went with a Coconut Mocha Coffee with Coconut Milk, I did 14cups of brewed coffee that I mixed with one can of Coconut Milk then let sit until room temperature. I poured that into the drink vessel, then turned on the power and pressed the SLUSHASSIST. The “Sensing” message appeared on the display above the temperature settings.
After about 15 minutes, the machine beeped and the message changed to “Add Sugar”, which led me to double check the quicks start guide for the instructions. The message is a “Low-Sugar Alert”, which means there isn’t enough sugar in the mixture to make the slushie. Ninja recommends adding 2 tablespoons of sugar for every 8oz of liquid. The sugar can be simple syrup, flavored syrup, honey, agave nectar, maple syrup, grenadine, or allulose syrup for diet/low sugar. You can make a simple sugared drink by mixing 2 tablespoons of your granulated sugar (cane/coconut/date) with 8oz of the liquid and pour that back into the machine until you reach the correct sugar content. Once you’ve added your sweetener just press the SLUSHASSIST again to clear the message and continue.
The same can be said for alcoholic drinks, if your mixture is over 20% alcohol by volume the SLUSHASSIST will give you the warning of needing more water, which can be off set with a simple syrup or mixer. I’ve got a party coming up where I plan to make something spiked, possibly a Hard Lemonade or Sour Beer based on input from the guests. I know either way, it is going to be a hit.
After adding the sugar, it took about 20mins for the machine to beep again with the message “Enjoy”! All told it took about ~40 minutes to go from liquid to slushie with a roughly ¾ full drink vessel. I was very impressed with how easy the SLUSHi machine made making slushies, the machine does all the work, you just must add the ingredients.
Drinks Results:
The Coffee & Coconut Milk turned out great, the consistency was smoother than a blended coffee drink that you can get at a coffee shop. Taste will be more based on your ingredients and preferences, but I found the taste great based on the sweetness ratio needed by the machine. Balancing sweetness will be easier than just reducing the amount of sugar due to the option of using alternative sweeteners like honey or agave nectar.
I’ve also tried a Gava Juice, 100% Cherry Juice with Sprite, and a Root Beer soda. In all cases, I used roughly the same steps except for adding sugar, as all the drinks had enough sugar already in them. The SLUSHASSIST option made the perfect consistency with no modification needed. I think when I do an alcoholic or milk-based drink, I might need to tweak the mixture for taste but will probably still mostly use the SLUSHASSIST setting for ease.
Cleaning:
Cleaning was easy; first you want to empty the remaining drink mix, then do a warm water rinse to get the rest out using the Rinse setting. Once most of the remaining drink has been removed, release the bail handle on top to remove the drink vessel for washing. Some liquid will drip into the center drip tray while removing the drink vessel and auger device. Then remove the auger device. Wash and wipe dry the central metal cylinder, the evaporator, removing any leftover drink mix. Then remove the central drip tray and front drip tray to wash. It is a lot less effort than it seems. Additionally, the spout section cap can come off for easier cleaning around the spout. It usually took me no more than 15-20 minutes to empty and clean after each use.
Conclusion:
If you want a fun way to stay cool this summer, while making up some of the best slushies with minimal effort, the Ninja SLUSHi is the way to go. The SLUSHASSIST is the star of the party, taking any drink, and turning it into a perfectly consistent slushie. You don’t have to worry about making the perfect mixture, as the SLUSHASSIST will handle the balance. We’ve already got a 10+ running list of things we want to try this summer, and I only expect that to continue to grow.

Summer of SLUSHi XL!!

I've been putting off getting a Ninja SLUSHi for a few years now because the idea of cleaning it after each use sounded exhausting. I'm glad my kiddos finally pushed me to pull the trigger. The SLUSHI XL is the best of both worlds - It is wickedly easy to clean and it's insanely fast at making slusheis. We have only had it for a week and we've enjoyed a frozen treat almost every day so far.
CLEANING/MAINTENANCE:
Cleaning a slushy machine was my number one objection when thinking about pulling the trigger. I timed myself cleaning the SLUSHi XL after our last batch - It took me less than ten minutes! Ninja has it down to a 3 step process.
1) DRAIN & RINSE - Place the SLUSHi XL on the edge of your sink and drain. Once it's done, fill it with water from your tap and run the rinse cycle. After the unit stops spinning - drain it again.
2) BREAK DOWN & WASH - After you drain your rinse cycle, you can pull the lever and remove the tank, mixer, and drip tray. I typically use warm water and soap to do a quick scrub inside the tank and the mixer usually only needs a quick rinse. The condensation drip tray is easily removed and frees up room to give the metal cylinder a quick wipe down.
3) ASSEMBLY & DRYING - Once everything is clean, you can either let it air dry or wipe everything down with a dry cloth. I personally reassemble the unit and leave the top off where you add your ingredients - It takes a bit longer to dry but cuts out the hand drying process.
Ninja crushed the design of the container. There are virtually no seams in the plastic so you won't have issues with ingredients getting caught in little cracks and crevices in the housing. Any objections you may have related to cleaning are null and void.
SLUSHASSIST TECHNOLOGY:
The SlusAssist technology is spot-on and takes all of the guess work out of tossing in your favorite beverage and getting a perfect slushy every time. I have yet to experience a beverage that didn't slush - you do have to be mindful when it comes to sugar content. You won't be able to get away with sugar free options with this machine. Sugar is needed to properly achieve the ideal frozen consistency for the perfect slushy and thanks to the SlusAssist, it will let you know if you need to add more sugar or water. All you have to do is dump in your drink and walk away - in 15-20 minutes, you're ready to rock.
CAPACITY:
128oz is the perfect size in my opinion. This makes the container large enough for entertaining and small enough to make a handful of servings if you don't have the company to warrant tossing in a full 2 liter of your favorite soda.
VERDICT:
The SLUSHi XL from Ninja is a crowd pleaser and it's simply awesome. There's literally no excuse not to make slushies whenever and wherever you want. I am still amazed that I can have 128 ounces of slushy in less than 20minutes - whenever we want! Gone are the days of having to cart the kids to Seven Eleven for a sweet treat. If the idea of cleaning and maintaining a slushy machine at home has been stopping you - get a Ninja SLUSHi XL and you won't regret it. It doesn't just make a killer slushy, it makes memories.

A great device for frozen drinks

Growing up near a convenience store I always found myself with a slushi in my hands on hot summer days. It was a great treat and I never imagined I would have something in my house that could make the same delicious treats. The Ninja Slushi XL has exceeded my expectations.
First thing to note is how easy it is to set up. You pull it out of the box and then remove all the stickers and tape from the outside. Each of the stickers has a nice little tip on it to help you with set up or even ongoing use. I even left a couple on the machine just to remind me of certain pieces of information.
The next step in the process is to clean the removable elements of the machine. After I washed them I placed them back onto the refrigerated cylinder, locked it into place and then plugged the unit in. We decided to go with one of the recipes from the Quick Start Guide for our first slushi. I pulled three cans of soda from the fridge and measured them out. It ended up being approximately 4.5 cups of soda.
Now, I was using zero sugar soda and the slushi machine requires approximately 4.5% sugar in the liquid mixture. There are some easy suggestions to add sugar content to your low sugar drink mix. I ended up just using some grenadine and turning it into a cherry cola soda slushi. I did get the warning that it was low sugar, but after I restarted the machine, it immediately started freezing the drink.
I started hearing chunks of the drink clinking around in the machine as it created ice, but the longer it spun, the more slushi-like the recipe became. I was shocked at how easy it was to create and enjoy frozen drinks without having to venture to a local gas station. The only downside to this machine is how large it is. It is so tall that it won’t fit on under my kitchen cabinets. The good news is that you aren’t confined to needing to be near a water source since you add all the ingredients to the machine manually.
Creating the soda slushi took close to 60 minutes and when it was done, it was a little more frozen than I expected. It didn’t dispense easily. I tried turning the temperature down, but it still dispensed very slowly. After I used the smart slushi mode, I switched to just ‘slush’ and it seemed to push out the mix a bit easier and quicker. I don’t see this as a deal breaker, but it’s something to plan for with you recipe.
I’m really looking forward to making more recipes as the summer months roll in.

Turn almost all your drinks into a SLUSHi!

I was one of those people who first thought, "I won't ever use something like this" until I actually tried it out. Now I can't stop turning all my drinks at home into slushies. Being in Texas and our 11 days of winter has past, now it's full time summer and Ninja gave our household the best gift ever. Have you ever had an Iced tea with lemonade energy drink slush? No? Neither have I until I gave it a try and WOW. My family and I have used this on many sodas, fruit drinks, energy drinks and even chocolate milkshakes! We just can't get enough of the Ninja SLUSHi!
After unboxing this heavy beast, you get the SLUSHi XL itself, drip tray, and the usual literature of instructions and recipes/tips and tricks.
Setup is easy. Once you remove all the protective plastics, stickers and tape you just disassemble the main compartment by the lever (which I thought was a handle at first) and give it a quick wash before using. If solo or just wanting a drink, just remember there is a MINIMUM of 24 oz of liquid you need to get started and a MAX of 96oz if you have multiple people.
One great feature Ninja included is the SLUSHi assist button. If you are not sure what you put in can turn into a slushy you can use the assist and after about 10 min you will be either good to go or it will let you know if for example you need more sugar (simple syrup) before it'll become slushy-like. I used this feature on the energy drinks and it required more sugar since I used Zero Sugar.
While on this topic, people who cannot do sugar, fear not! Ninja has your back and you can use and they recommend sugar substitutes that will work!
Performance is excellent and will get you an ice cold treat quickly. When using assist, it take about 9-10 min before it'll tell you if you are good to go. After experience, you just use the presets to your liking. The instruction book says when using the Slush feature it should take roughly 20 min before you are ready, but after using many sodas (Pineapple being the absolute BEST flavor!) it just takes 14 by our clocks.
Clean up is a breeze. Just like when you 1st cleaned the parts at the beginning, it is almost the same. But this time you need to add warm/room temp water to the reservoir and run the rinse cycle. Drain and repeat until the water is basically clear. Then you can disassemble. Do not worry if there is still liquid because under is a catch tray that can come out for easy cleaning once done.
While the only con I can think of, and trust me I tried, is basically noise level. While it does advertise itself as quiet, it can get on the loud side if you are in the room with it. This "con" is a stretch. Maybe another is preparing yourself for all the brain freezes you will get to experience lol. I've had a few, but I can't help it if it's so yummy!

Very impressive appliance! I highly recommend it for those who love frozen drinks and milkshakes alike. I was extremely surprised by how easy the machine was to use and learn, which is definitely the biggest highlight of this appliance, in my opinion. The quick start guide is very helpful in getting the machine setup and ready to go, but most helpful is the included recipe book which includes extremely helpful guidance for making up one’s own recipes. I started right out the gate making my own concoction of a non-alcohol mojito drink with a zero sugar pop. I used pomegranate juice for the required sugar and it turned out perfect. Jumping straight into making up my own drink recipe was intimidating at first, but between the recipe guide book and the SlushAssist setting on the machine, it was a piece of cake. In the week of using the SlushiXL I made the mocktail mojito slushie of my own recipe, a coffee frappé (following the included recipe), a strawberry protein milkshake, and a Sangria slushie. All turned out so well and were delicious! I’m not much of a coffee drinker, and only drink it iced/frozen, but the frappé turned out so good, it has about turned me into a daily coffee drinker now. The Sangria slushie was incredibly easy to make. I just poured a bottle of Sangria in the machine, selected the spiked setting, and voilà! - it turned out perfectly! If I had any complaints about the machine, the only one would be the quietness of the beep sound to let you know that the drink is ready to consume. It is very quiet and practically unnoticeable. Other than that I have no complaints.
Some other things that I found impressive, and noteworthy, with the Ninja SlushXL was how quickly it made the drinks, the overall quietness of the machine while in use, the ease of cleaning the machine after use (the design of the machine and the rinse setting both make it SUPER easy), and the length of the cord is excellent. Additionally, the capacity of the machine lives up to the XL in its name. I was a bit concerned by the size at first, but the minimum drink size is perfect for 2 people (or two large sized drinks for one person lol). If you are looking for a more single size serving machine, then there is a smaller size version of the NinjaSlushi available too. The Ninja SlushiXL is great for 2 people or more, and makes drinks so quickly that I imagine it would be excellent for small gatherings as well. Overall, a very fun and very impressive appliance.

I've had the Ninja SLUSHI XL Smart Frozen Drink Maker for about a week now, and I think it's the coolest thing ever. When I first brought it home I thought, whoa this thing is big! But once I got it out of the box and set up, it doesn't take up too much space on our counter. It's just slightly bigger than a coffee machine. Anywho, it's got great build quality and it's easy to take apart for cleaning up after you finish your frozen beverages. My wife and I enjoy drinking frozen Jack and Coke's whenever we see them at restaurants or bars, so naturally.. It's the first drink we had to make with this Slushi machine.
It comes with a small recipe book for trying out drinks. I followed the recommended measurements for making a spiked frozen drink and it came out perfect. The Ninja Sushi maker had us sipping our favorite drink in about 10-15 minutes. I was honestly surprised at how quick the drink was ready after pouring everything into the machine and starting it up. The consistency of the slushi was perfect, when using the "smart"slush assist mode. I can't wait to use this for party's and get togethers. I am sure it is going to be a hit. Who doesn't love a good frozen drink? The best thing about this machine is that you can use it to slush almost anything. Cold coffee, sodas, juice, alcohol, milkshakes! It kind of makes me feel like a kid again lol. I used to love blending ice into my drinks all the time as a kid. If you have kids, I think they will love this machine as well. As far as build quality, If you've owned Ninja products before, than you'll know what to expect out of this product. Every ninja appliance I have ever owned is always very reliable and long lasting. I always get a few years of use out of Ninja products and this machine looks and feels like it will make slushes for my family and I for years to come.
Pros: Makes slushes quickly!
Will make slushes, frappe's. milkshakes, it can freeze just about any cold beverage
It is super easy to disassemble and clean
Cons: Will make you drink sugar more often lol
All in All, I have to say that I really enjoy having this machine in our home and if you are looking for a machine to make frozen drinks and treats. Look no further, I think you will love it as well.

The Ninja Slushi XL has become my home's favorite appliance that everyone LOVES!! We absolutely love this machine and Ninja has made it super easy for everyone to use. This machine is heavy so be careful when opening the box. Once out of the box, all of the parts are easy to put together. The Ninja Slushi comes with a lot of helpful instructions located on the machine itself. Once everything is washed, you are all good to go.
For my first drink I made a Strawberry mix with 2Lbs of strawberries, half a gallon and about half cup of sugar, I blended everything at room temperature and filled it to the max which is 96oz. It took about an hour and a haf or maybe more. I did at some point felt it took forever to come to the full thick slushi consistency. I did set it to the “Slushi” setting and that's the amount of time it took. I served about 7-8 full cups and still had some left that I took out and put it in the freezer.
The second time, I used Langers Mango Nectar. This time I only did the minimum which is 24oz. I set it to the “slushassist” and this time it took about 25-30 mins to complete and serve about 4 full cups. Overall, the Ninja Slushi XL did a great job. I did notice that the Ninja Slushi machine gets pretty warm while running which leaves my counters feeling hot. I hope in the long run it does not cause any issues.
I do recommend washing your machine right away so the sugary stuff does not get stuck and hardens. This machine does have a rinse option which does a great job at removing all the stuff that gets left behind and also cleans the Evaporator since that is the only piece that doesn't come off so it's better to clean everything while it's still cold.
Ninja definitely has done it again bringing this amazing Slushi machine that is loved by both kids and adults. Spring is coming in hot and this machine has made it more enjoyable keeping us refreshed with all kinds of frozen drinks that can be made in this Slushi machine. My family loves it and I'm sure your family will too.

This Ninja SlushiXL is my favorite new kitchen appliance. I have made so many goodies with this for the grandkids and myself over the last week or two. We have made slushies out of our favorite soda, milkshakes, strawberry daiquiris without the alcohol of course, and then we even made a few things that do not have names yet. We added puréed strawberries, puréed blueberries, and puréed raspberries, along with sweetened condensed milk, heavy whipping cream, and milk. What it made was a very berry milkshake.
The box contained the Ninja Slushi XL and the drip tray, along with all the paperwork.
The setup was simple. Wash the vessel and removable parts, and get ready to make something good! You do have to let it set for 2 hours before you turn it on if it has been moved or anything.
The process to use it is so easy. You read the section of the manual that you want to use, whether it’s alcoholic beverages, fruit juices, soda, or straight up slushies and pour the mixture in and turn it on. It has a chart for settings and time.
The milkshake took 15 minutes.
The soda Slushi took 10 minutes.
The strawberry daiquiri took 20 minutes but it could have been served sooner, as it was the first thing I made.
The cleanup is easy. Empty the machine by using the dispensing nozzle in the front. Then fill the vessel with water to the fill line. Put a large bowl under the dispensing nozzle and push the “Rinse” button. Then pull the dispensing handle slowly and drain all the water out. On milkshakes you make have to do it a couple of times. I did it 2 or 3.
Then disassemble it and wash it.
I will cherish this Ninja Slushi XL forever. It’s the most awesome thing in my kitchen!!

My Blender Might Start Being Neglected!

I had been interested in the Ninja Slushi for awhile so I was excited to give the XL version a try. This model was bigger than I expected (yes, I knew the 128 oz capacity vessel was bigger than the regular models of course but I had not anticipated the machine itself to be as wide, tall, and significantly heavier). It's not so massive that it will be a problem for most standard counters with cabinets above but if you are limited in counter space in your kitchen you may find the regular models better suited depending on your needs.
It arrives pretty much fully assembled (the only part not already attached was the removable 2-piece drip tray) but the included quick guide and booklet gives detailed steps on how to assemble and disassemble for cleaning as well as the machine has many guided stickers attached to it to help you out. Going through a quick cleaning of all of the parts and reassembling was easy. The large 128 oz vessel is perfect for entertaining and the SlushAssist setting makes an already easy to use experience even better. It is also relatively fast and pretty quiet While so far I haven't had any messages pop up to adjust the recipe it is great to know that if my mix needed to be adjusted the machine will alert me so there is no guess work. While I did test out a couple of the preset options I found myself preferring the SlushAssist setting because so far it has made my drinks just right without needing to adjust anything to get the perfect texture.
The only thing I have a slight concern about is the durability of the vessel which while solid does feel like a thinner plastic and may be easier to crack. I did a quick search for the 128 oz replacement vessel but haven't found it yet. It's not a huge concern of course as I imagine contacting customer support if I ever truly needed to replace it but it was interesting to not be able to easily find replacement parts that are for this particular model.
Overall, I am extremely happy with this machine. While it is pricey and technically you can make frozen drinks with a blender and ice this is a nice ice-free option that can give you smoother drinks without the water down that adding ice can create.

I've owned a lot of the Ninja devices that give you the ability to make a niche item quickly but they definitely can vary in how easy they are to use, whether setup, tear down, cleaning, or just general use, they can be as much of a handful as a convenience. But that's where this truly excels.
To start:
Packaging is only what it needs to be, contains the unit and some literature, nothing extra, no pieces that you're wondering how to use, and it doesn't need them.
Setup:
The machine comes apart in a few large pieces all of which are easy to clean and put back together. There's not 18 small parts that could get lost, really only just 4 main pieces that fit together seamlessly. Wash it, slide it back together, pour in your desired concoction and hit start
Use:
When you do start it you have the option of type of drink or letting the unit figure out out on it's own. I happened to put in Baja blast as where else can you get a Baja blast slushy except one notable restaurant. Even filling it full it was ready in less than 30 minutes which is faster than the literature stated. I did use the auto function instead of just choosing slushy and it was slightly more composed than I would prefer, fortunately that's adjustable and I ended up with a very good facsimile of what I expected.
Cleanup
Run the rinse cycle to make cleaning easier (just some hot water that you dump out almost immediately) then same as with set up, slide those 4 parts apart, clean, set aside.
Overall
This isn't a machine you'll use once then ignore, it's so easy that it doesn't lend itself to just that one "wow this is neat" moment but then you just don't want to deal with it again. In fact it's unused state is the same as the set up state so it's easy to just throw more ingredients in and hit start.
I would happily recommend this to anyone that wants an easy, fun way to make frozen drinks.

I have loved frozen drinks since I could remember. I loved slushys so much I used to stop at the local convenience store to get a frozen soda almost everyday (I know it’s bad lol). But something about icey cold soda just taste 100 times better than regular soda. I don’t enjoy soda regularly tho. Taste more sweet and acidic but a slush is different in my opinion. My wife and 2 preteen kids have adopted my love of slush style drinks as well. So when I had the opportunity to try ninjas slushy XL I went for it. And man has our family been enjoying it soo much. We have only been able to try big red, Mountain Dew and frozen coffee so far and they come out perfect Everytime the way we like it at least. We add the liquids into the canister, press slush assist and let it do its thing. Usually takes about 30 minutes or so and it’s made just like in the store. A little liquid but mainly slush which I prefer, my kids like it a little more icy so I turn up the temp button by 1 bar and that usually satisfies them. It’s really that simple. Set it and forget it literally lol. Has plenty of capacity, 96 ounces i believe. Enough for a whole 2 liter and about 6 regular sized cups in Every household. Cleaning is very easy as you have a rinse setting and it’s easy to take apart to rinse further. Looks great but is large hence the “XL” moniker. So you will need a spacious counter. Overall it’s amazing and the wife can’t wait to try an adult drink next weekend. I’m sure those will be amazing as well. Highly recommend if you want to make fun drinks for the whole family and friends!

I've personally never owned a slushy or frozen drink maker anything short of a professional blender. But this new Ninja slushy XL frozen drink maker is just hands down awesome.
From when I first received it unboxed it placed it on my kitchen counter cleaned everything with soap and water and made the first batch of slushies with grape Kool-Aid I was blown away not only at how fast it actually turned it into slush but how easy to clean up was.
Now you're definitely going to need some extra counter space cuz I don't recommend hauling this back and forth from a cabinet or a storage area to your counter weekly or every other day when you decide to make frozen drinks, because nothing about this is light or what I'd want to haul around back and forth constantly.
The kids absolutely love the Frozen Kool-Aid while my wife and I prefer to make it frozen margaritas and daiquiris in it. My wife and I both were skeptical and not only how well it would work but how much of a pain it would be to clean after use. Again I will say to my surprise this thing is extremely fast and freezing your drinks and turning them into slush or daiquiris as well as the cleanup is super simple with some soap and water and a soapy rag for the cylinder which chills the drinks.
If you've got a little extra cash to burn and decide to go with the XL version over last year's standard size I definitely recommend this to anybody on the fence. Especially if you have a family with small children or teenagers.

Milkshakes and Slushies at Home? Yes, Please!

If you've ever dreamed of being able to make a Wendy's Frosty anytime you wanted one, now you can! This Ninja SLUSHi XL exceeded my expectations and I expect it to be a staple in our home for many weekends to come.
Pros:
- It is well designed / easy to use. Directions are very clear and it comes with plenty of ideas to get you started.
- Drinks have turned out great each time I've used it. So far we've used cans of Coke to make Coke Slushies and also some delicious chocolate milkshakes (see photos). We were able to make milkshakes for 4, at an estimated total cost of $5 for ingredients. That's about the cost of just 1 milkshake if you are buying from a restaurant. So not only are you saving money, but you can ensure that fresh ingredients are being used and you can get very creative with your own recipes.
- I was worried that it would be difficult to clean but it was surprisingly easy!
- The automated design of the machine is excellent. It provides a digital readout to let you know what's going on and when the beverage is ready and it also detects when more liquid or sugar needs to be added. It works very quickly, about 10-15 minutes depending on what you are making.
- No ice is required!
Cons:
- It's a fairly large appliance so make sure you have the counter space or a place to store it when not in use.
This is certainly a luxury item, but one that will get a lot of use in most households. It will in mine!

Title:
A great solution for sugary drinks - but they really do have to be sugary.
I've missed out on a few of these cool slush machines in the past but finally made the jump into picking one up. I must say - wow, this thing is a BEAST!
TL;DR - and the full walk through below.
Good:
Instructions
Clean-ability
Noise Level
Drip/condensate catcher
Cup holder/drip catcher
Bad:
Sugar requirement
Meh:
Weight
Footprint
Where am I going to put this thing?!
My kid said: why do you have a commercial sized slushy machine over there? I laughed - well, it IS called the "XL" and all - but I wasn't expecting it to be this big, especially since I saw the image before I picked it out.
I started off with the unpacking and removing the tape and then went on to the user guide, which in typical Ninja fashion - was very good with recipes, pictures and all.
One thing that jumped out to me was ... that there needs to be a 4.5% sugar content in things made with the Slushi and that's not something I have by default at home. However, they do offer 'sugar like' additive suggestions to make just about liquid able to be Slushi'd.
After carrying this beast over to the Island - disassembly was simple and the initial cleaning of the components was simple and there's even a spot on the side of the machine to 'clip in' the cup holder / drip catcher so it doesn't get misplaced!
There was the need to keep it upright for a few hours before starting to use it -- and I did - because, why not.
Being super diligent, I followed the instructions to a T, as to not skew first impressions or ease of use.
During use, it has to be spinning the whole time - likely because you want it to stay somewhat liquid for pouring. I added my ingredients and watched as the Slushi was formed!
This is insanely quiet too; I have a bunch of Ninja countertop appliances and compared to the Ninja CREAMi, you could run this thing near a sleeping baby.
The liquid gets spun around the middle chiller bar and you can start to watch the ice form and shortly thereafter, the slush.
For me, 10-15 mins was the average depending on "how much" liquid I was adding; the minimum got me around 9 minutes - but that isn't much more than 3 glasses of Slushi - not enough for a party.
I found it was a little watery at first, so I used the "dial" to make it a bit more thick and it worked wonderfully.
When there was a bit of condensation from the changing temps, the drip catcher (that you can't remove without pulling the unit apart as if to clean it) did its job.
When all the Slushi was gone -- cleaning up was a snap!
Again, following the instructions and doing a full pour of water into the machine while it was in cleaning mode - I was able to get it done in 2 full flush cycles on the less intrusive drinks.
Then, like the initial cleaning, the disassemble, clean, reassemble was a super easy.
If you're a party family, drinks, alcohol, soda and the like and you entertain - this is a great toy to bring out to impress your friends and family.
If you're not into a bunch of sugary drinks - then this may not be the right fit for you.
Either way, this is a slick machine; recommended!

Great for functions and parties

I’ll start by saying that I am a fan of NInja products. The consumer space that they occupy is quite extensive and until now, I have always had nothing but the perfect experience with their product line. While the Ninja Slushi XL is a great product that is built to the highest standards, the time and effort that is needed to use this product, is, for lack of a better saying, an acquired taste.
For starters, this unit is extremely well designed and functions as advertised. All parts are high quality and seem like they will last forever. The button layout includes a rinse cycle, and single button click (slush assist) options for slush, spiked, spiked max, milkshakes, and frozen juice. Every mode I have tried so far works wonderfully. The first quick and easy trial batch of slush juice came out perfect, tasted great, and kept its consistency for a long time in the cup. At this point, you may be wondering what is wrong?
Technically, there is nothing wrong, other than when you fire this up, you will be making it into an event. From gathering your ingredients, to getting them ready, to waiting for it to run the cycle, to dispensing your concoction, the process is very time consuming. If you simply want to pour some bottled juice into it and turn it on, it is pretty easy, but you will still have to wait a while to dispense, and then you will have to clean it. More on this later. I have also noticed that it can be extremely slow to dispense. I am not sure if that is my error or not and only time and practice will tell. The first batch of plain juice I tried came out into the cup in little plops and it took a while to fill each cup.
If you are wanting to make fresh juice into a slushy, you will first need to prep all of your fruit by peeling, chopping, adding liquid, and blending first. This unit does not accept anything but liquid, so blueberries, pineapple, and more, will all need to be pre-blended before pouring into the machine, which creates more to clean. Again, if you have the time, or if you are using it at a party, or taking it to a function, it is a really fun machine that will dazzle both kids and adults. You can make frozen coffee drinks, milkshakes, and yes, you can even make frozen margaritas or daiquiris with it, if you choose. Again, an excellent party machine.
It is a very large appliance that will take a lot of space on your counter, so keep that in mind and be sure to measure your counter space and clearance under your cabinets. This is obvious, considering XL is right there in the name! It is also pretty heavy, but thankfully Ninja’s awesome design team have made it so when you lift the front of the machine, the back two contact points are slick which allows you to slide it around on the table or countertop with little effort.
Cleaning the unit is arguably the worst part of the whole process. The first time I used it, I had water all over the place. There is an included rinse feature built in, which works well to melt/knock everything off of the barrel and get it ready for a final cleaning. The 128oz vessel is pretty large and cumbersome to maneuver in your sink for cleaning and it takes a really long time for it to dry on the inside as well. Thankfully the drip tray is also handy and keeps the rest of the unit pretty clean. Just be sure you leave it on the unit and clean it last so it can catch all of the drips from the barrel while you are spending time cleaning the large vessel. All of that said, I don’t think I will have the time needed to fire this up daily. It’s effectively a weekend treat machine.
In conclusion, the new Ninja Slushi XL machine does exactly what it is designed to do, and does it well. Whether you are making a frappe, juice, or frozen cocktail drinks at a party, the Slushi has you covered. The time needed to use this machine is not its fault. No one should expect an instant slushy. Just find a new recipe, plan ahead, and make it an event!

Very, Very, Fun. Ridiculously Easy. Versatile.

To sum my thoughts up in one sentence, this thing is so much fun, easy to use, (mostly) easy to clean, and versatile with what types of drinks you can make. I had been seeing and thinking about one of these for some time, and I just wish I had used one sooner.
The package itself is a little bit larger, but nothing crazy and it is all packed well and easy to get going. As is setup. There is not really much to it. The machine is, again, a little large, but it is really a few larger pieces. Easy to take apart and put back together.
Once there, it mostly is just a matter of deciding what you want to do. You more or less add your ingredients, hit start and you are on your way. I am not really sure how it all works, but you select what you want, or you can have it do all of that for you. They call it SlushiAssist, but it just somehow knows and makes the drink the perfect texture. It is some kind of Wizardry. You do have granular control with several preset programs and control over the temperature, but so far I have not really even needed to take those steps. Perhaps with summer coming it may change things, but I shall see. While operating, the machine is fairly quiet, or at least not loud, and while I have not really tested this yet, I am interested to see how it does keeping slushy in the machine for extended periods. They claim it can for up to 12 hours. We shall see.
To this point, it has been a lot of soda and coffee drinks for me, but I also have delved into some alcoholic options, and everything has been just about perfect. Texture, flavor, everything. As I get more into this I can see this being a PROBLEM lol, especially with summer coming up and more entertaining options available to me. Honestly, a good problem to have. I look forward to finding more creative ideas and recipes. Milkshakes are also on the horizon.
As for cleanup, as I hinted to above, I think it is “mostly” easy to clean. The cycle itself is a breeze, and I do feel it does a very good job, but I also feel I will want to take it apart and clean everything independently as well. From time to time. The pieces are bigger and require some effort. Nothing major, and really an issue for me, but something to note.
In the end, I love this thing. I have only scratched the service of how I think I will use this. Beyond that, it is well built, fun, so, so, so easy to use, and it performs beyond my expectations. I think for all that you get, as well as all you can do, the value is there. Check your use case for sure, but I think this is a kitchen appliance will have some sticking power in your life, just make sure you also have somewhere to put it.

It's not until it dawns on you that you can add in anything with the right sugar and/or alcohol ratio and make a slushi out of it that the grin becomes hard to suppress. Of course, the book that comes with the machine tells you what sugar or alcohol content your drink needs, but if you get it wrong, the machine will be happy to tell you to add more sugar or more water to make your slush work.
If you're not creative, the book also comes with a few recipes, with more on the Ninja website. So yes, with this machine you can make milkshakes, margaritas, soda slushies, wine slushies, frozen lemonades, orange julius, coffee frappe... the possibilities go on!
It's advertised as 128oz, but that's a bit exaggerated, since it only lets you prepare a mix at a max of 96oz, which probably comes a little bit closer to that 128 after it freezes. The minimum mix is 24oz of liquid.
You add in your mixed ingredients, (which can be a bit challenging, since things like sugar to not want to mix into cold liquids very well), and just press the SlushAssist button, and in 30 mins (give or take, depending on what you put in), you have yourself a slushi. It may be quicker if you jump to a preset such as Milkshake, as it won't spend as much time trying to sense what you put in. How it senses what you put in, I have no idea. It is a little unclear with some things like Milkshakes where it says to dispense within 30 mins of it being ready to prevent foaming, while at the same time it says it can keep slushies going for as long as 12 hours. I can only suspect it has something to do with the cream that it may not be able to keep those going for as long.
Once you are done, I highly suggest taking a large pitcher of warm water and some soap, and put it on the rinse setting, and doing that a few times to get the bulk of it clean. Then you still will have to take it apart and properly clean with a sponge. This is a pain because it is large and awkward, with no easy way to put it down and get a good grip on it (both the container and the spiral agitator). That is easily the biggest drawback to this machine (difficult to clean). It doesn't fit well in my dishwasher either. If you have a dishwasher with an adjustable top rack, it may be easier to wash that way.
Only other 'issue' with this machine is its size. Good luck finding a place to store it in your pantry. Or, alternatively, just keep it on your counter and commit to a life of slushies (woe is me!).
