Still top-quality episodes, even if not the best

Most dramas never reach a seventh season, and the few that do rarely maintain the elements that made it a success. The X-Files is a notable exception. The writing, directing and acting are all solid, with a few standout episodes that make S7 memorable.

The 7th Season of the X-Files is when the steam finally ran out. The mythology had largely been wrapped up the season before, the "new mythology" wasn't given room to grow, and the stand-alones are more experimental than anything.

With lots of religious coloring, the series is becoming average.

Still a Good Season of the Best Show Ever!

Unfortunately, this is not the best season of the X-Files. But at least Mulder's in every episode. There is a crossover episode with Millennium that works as an ending for Lance Henriksen's canceled series. However, that is a really far-out episode that is really disappointing to any Millennium fan. The character of Donnie Pfaster returns in an episode that makes me want to yell "WAY TO GO SCULLY!" An old boyfriend from Scully's past makes a disappointing appearance, but before that Kathy Griffin makes a horrendous guest appearance in the worst episode of X-Files history. "X-Cops" is an interesting and kind of fun episode. It's like a spoof of the show "Cops." It documents Mulder and Scully solving a case. "First Person Shooter" is also a real joy. It is action-packed and involves Scully kicking butt in a virtual reality video game. Cigarette Smoking Man also gets an interesting episode involving Scully. Is that a romantic spark I see? Just me I think... The last episode of the season is extremely crucial for the next season. Some scary creatures to look forward to are dopplegangers, genies, and witches.

Classic Drama Begins to Show Its Age

The X-Files ranks as one of the all-time great sci-fi shows, but by the 7th season its quality had begun to dip. David Duchovony was engaged in a lawsuit with the network over money, and it was widely speculated that the show would end after 7 years. The producers then began to wrap up many of the remaining questions, like the fate of Mulder's sister. Some of these efforts were better than others, and instead of the series ending, it was given a last-minute reprieve, ending on a cliff-hanger of Mulder being abducted by aliens. Even if not as good as the show's peak, it still delivers solid entertainment, and with the upgrade to HD picture, it looks better than ever.

Decent season of the classic sci-fi horror television series. Not the best, not the worst. Blu ray remaster is lovely. Looks great in HD.
