I was not expecting to like this console as much as I do. After receiving my PS5 on launch day, the last thing I ever thought I would need is another next-gen console. I will say that if I didn't have the PS5, I would have probably opted for a Series X, but in that I have high-performance gaming already with my PlayStation, this astoundingly compact console fills a real great space that the PS5 can't necessarily offer. My new house was built with frustratingly few cable jacks, and I still have traditional landline cable, so the ability to use this as a Spectrum receiver in my theater room is great. The load times are amazingly fast, and honestly the resolution downgrade from the true 4K Series X/PS5 is minimal, even on my 110" screen. The best part is the fact that I can seamlessly continue a game started on my Xbox One S downstairs and pick up right where I left off with my Series S upstairs. Also, Game Pass is far and away the best deal that exists in all of gaming - I was able to trade in 3 Xbox One games I had purchased because all of those titles were now available on Game Pass Ultimate. If you want a second console, if you don't care about a disc drive or the highest resolution, or if you want to save some money, this is an outstanding option.

Purchased for my 11yr old. This is amazing and all digital so it saves from having to enter each disc while playing. It only holds 512GB I believe. But from Amazon an $80 4TB expansion fixed that problem.

The Xbox Series S had me skeptical when it was first unveiled to the public. I mean, after all, how powerful can it be with 4TB and being such a compact system?
I upgraded from the Xbox One X to this system, so I was a little unsure at first that the system would be worth it. Needless to say, I was definitely mistaken.
The Xbox Series S was packaged very well and definitely gets points for its presentation, but that's not where it carries its weight. The system's real qualities lie under the hood, so to speak.
It loads games fast - and they are beautiful, without a doubt. The new share button on the controller is great for taking screenshots in-game without having to go to an out-of-game menu, and the system runs cool and quiet (like most Xbox systems do).
It's compact and isn't bulky at all - an important feature for people who have space constraints.
And, if the 512GB isn't enough for you (it's actually closer to 370GB of actual useable space), it has an expansion slot for SSDs (I recommend using approved SSDs - Best Buy sells at least one brand of these and it also works very well).
In closing, the system is fast, compact, and is next-gen without requiring as much of a financial investment as its big brother, the Xbox Series X.

I’ve never owned an Xbox gaming system before but I am loving this one! I think the last gaming system I had as the PS2 and when getting a new one. I was between this one and the PS5. Let me tell you, I am so glad I went with this one. I love it so much and I love their gaming subscription because I can play a bunch of games for a small price per month. It’s like Netflix but for games

So there are a lot of great things about the Series S.
This is not really a gaming machine. It’s a gaming appliance. It’s fully digital. It’s amazingly fast on wake up and is quick all around. It has tons of apps. I don’t know how well versed in digital games you are, but this feels like a new way of gaming.
It’s actually kind of cute in its own industrial brutalist sort of way. It hides behind the tv well.
The controller is responsive. The machine came with HDMI cable so that’s a perk.
Remember, you are at the mercy of digital games. I signed up for XBox ultimate for a special 3 month deal. It lets me download 100+ games. I’m happy with that deal for now but if you like physical games get the Series X.
Last at 512gb SSD I know it is not going to be a lot of space. I think 1TB is better but again this was a great deal and since stock is low, I jumped on the 512. I’ll probably expand the memory down the line.

Good System for a Part-Time Gamer

I originally bought this system when the Series X version was hard to come by. While I did enjoy using this system for the first year I had it, I didn't realize just how much I, personally, miss when a gaming system is without a disc drive. Since this is from my personal experience, I must admit that I would use my old Xbox as a DVD / Blu-Ray player -- however, with this system, that obviously couldn't be done. I will say this though: I loaned the system to my brother who doesn't have as much time to play as I would, and used it to a better advantage than I could. Overall, I would recommend this system to a gamer that doesn't have that much time since it has pretty quick load times and is a super light model to move around on the go.

In view of the shortage of PS5s, I decided to buy an Xbox Series S, because it was cheaper than its big brother and because it was the only thing available without having to pay double or triple its normal price (thanks scalpers!).
I've never been a fan of Microsoft consoles, so I have no reference point, but this console has been a pleasant surprise, it works very well, it's fast, the Quick Access feature is fantastic. The negative points that I find are the lack of games and the small storage it has. I know that there are games that are optimized for the XbSS but are games that I have previously played on PS4 or PC, there are still no exclusives for this console.
It may not be as powerful as its big brother, but the Xbox Series S is a good, reasonably priced console.
Oh! Almost forgot it... the size of this thing is excellent, horizontal or vertical, it fits anywhere.

If you can find it the XBOX Series “S” is a great system for game play. No, it’s not as powerful as the “X”, it doesn’t have as much storage space (364GB of 512GB useful) and it doesn’t have an optical drive BUT that doesn’t stop it from being a great gaming system. I’m using mine connected to a 70” 4K tv and the graphics look great. While the “S” won’t do 8K or 4K @120FPS, it will do 4K @60FPS and 120FPS @ 1440p!
It supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos if you have it.
The lack of an optical drive means no movies or disc based games, it is all digital, all the time! Great for Game Pass. That will require storage space. Your options are the expensive Extended Storage Cartridge ($220) but you can also add external storage. I added a 1TB SSD and an 8TB HDD. All backwards compatible games go on either of the 2 external drives. Games I want to load faster go to the SSD. The rest to the 8TB. All X/S games are either internal or Extended Storage. Now, before anyone says for all that you could’ve bought the Series “X”, my response is that before long anyone with a big library will have to do the same even on the “X”! The difference is that I saved $200 over all and could care less about 8K gaming!
Did I mention it’s small? It’s actually minuscule compared to the PS5 and compact next to the big ugly rectangle “X”. Halo looks and plays great, Forza 6/7 looks and plays great! In fact every game I’ve played looks and plays great! Who needs 12 TFLOPS when 4 will do just fine?

The Xbox Series S All-Digital is an excellent gaming platform, especially if you want to disassociate yourself from the hard-discs used for games. The console is space-conscious, blends into it's surroundings and looks good. Most importantly the processor is fast. Red Dead Redemption has no lag, nor do the other games my kids play. It's a real good buy, and I highly recommend it. The only issue I had was that I couldn't set it up using my iPhone, but my son set it up in under 5 minutes using his Android. As both gamer kids say, "it's way better than the older XBox we have".
PS My cat sitting on the console is 4 mos old, so that gives you an idea of the actual size.

Absolutely blown away by the form factor and speed of this TINY little box.
I set it up and went to download my games and instantly noticed that the network for downloads was a lot more stable. The game that I play (Forza Horizon 4) looks leaps and bounds better and runs much smoother than my One S. (My One S is still ol faithful and she isn't going anywhere.)
The aesthetics are very pleasing. There's so much power in such an insanely ittt bitty small box.
The amount of user accessible memory is kind of a let down as this all digital console should have been the one to get a TB out of the box. It doesn't make much sense that they decided to make this console without a disc drive, and rib half of the memory while letting the Series X have the disc drive and the TB of storage.
Oh well. I still have my games installed (the ones I want to play anyways) so I'm very much satisfied with this amazing little powerhouse.

It’s very small it does seem to get kind of warm everything does load super fast and you can use an external hard drive as well I’m pretty happy with my purchase I went from an original Xbox one to this so I’m happy and I think it’s a great purchase if you’re not looking to spend a fortune and you want something quality. It is very small and my picture I put a lip balm on top of it so you can see just how small it really is. It barely takes up space I can have it right next to my switch just not too close because it does get very hot. I’m happy with my purchase

For just $300 the Series S provides a great entryway into next gen consoles at a fantastic price. If you’re like me and just aiming for 1080p 60-120fps then this Xbox will have you covered. Also the fan is SUPER quiet, actually puts my loud PC to shame.

If your budget is not that high, it is perfect. It is very compact and super practical, and it is also pretty. It never makes noise and that is something I love because many times the consoles make noise but this one never makes noise. The truth is that I really liked it.

I really wanted to get the Series X but after weeks of trying to get it, I just gave up. Instead I got this and after about two days of using it, I am definitely impressed with the results! You are still getting the super fast loading screens, those cool dynamic backgrounds, quick resume, which is a feature that allows you to have three games running at once without having to actually close them, which makes it super easy to switch back and forth on games you play frequently, auto-HDR, being able to use older Xbox One controllers and headsets, and so much more. If you are coming from the OG Xbox One or the Xbox One S, I'd get this until the Series X is actually in stock for good. The only downside to this system is the size of the SSD. When the OS is all installed and done, you will only have about 364 GB of space. So I'd recommend getting the 1TB expansion card which comes at $220, expensive but worth it in the long run. Overall, this is an underrated system and doesn't get the love it deserves. It's worth every penny!

Honestly was just on Best Buy a few days ago and I seen they had a Xbox Series S so I thought I will see if I can’t place a order and what did you know it went through was actually happy Yes I know this system doesn’t let you have 4K 120 FPS but I don’t care I’m just glad I can play next generation games I’m very impressed at how the Xbox Series S can play games at 120 FPS and 60 FPS really can see a difference yes your not getting a lot of storage only like 364GB not the greatest but at least it’s something if your the type who doesn’t care about having a system that can do 4K 120 FPS then this system is perfect for you now note if you want to play Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition with Ray Tracing on then I have bad news the Series S can’t do it it’s only on the Series X but theirs other games that has Ray Tracing on the Series S but if you don’t care like me on some games then I say get this system

Another solution is to add a standard external hard drive, which can be used to store and play Xbox 360 and Xbox One games that have not been enhanced for Xbox Series X/S.
We hope you have a lot of fun with your Xbox.

Overall a really good console for the price. Runs Master Chief Collection, Overwatch, Call of Duty Warzone flawlessly, even at 120 FPS. With game pass this is a really good budget console. The only real issues I see now and that could definitely be problematic down the road are the lack of a disc drive and the low storage space. The box says 512 GB in the SSD but the actual usable storage is only around 330 GB. Understandable and consistent with other modern consoles, but for a console that's all digital, being low on space can be a real concern. The 1TB SSD expansion card would definitely help but I feel at that point if you want a higher storage capacity you'd be better off just getting a Series X instead, since it comes with 800 usable GB of storage without need for expansion, as well as the other improvements such as a disc drive. And not having a disc drive can be an issue for someone upgrading from an xbox one or even from an xbox 360 to a Series. You cannot play your disc games on a Series S, and if you want to play them on it, you'll have to buy them all over again, given the games are even available at all on the store to begin with.
This review may seem overall negative but it's largely just because of a couple major concerns that I feel people would run into down the line. But the console itself runs games great, and allows access to everything on the xbox one store as well as potential Series exclusives and upgrades. I'd say this console is best for someone who wants an xbox, who didn't own a One to begin with. So this should be seen as more of an entry level console.
TL:DR; Runs games really well, allows access to upgrades and exclusives, but the lack of a disc drive and low storage space can be an issue for someone looking to upgrade from a previous xbox console.

The Xbox Series S would be great for someone who doesn’t download a lot of games to there Xbox. It’s also great for people who use the Xbox Cloud Gaming (Included in Xbox ultimate to use)
If your a person who downloads quite a lot of games like me; the Xbox Series S isn’t really a great choice you only get to use 364 Gb out of the 512 Gb that Xbox states; plus the fact that many games are now at least 100 gb you might only fit 3-4 games depending on the games you download.
Investing in the 1Tb expansion slot is such a scandal if you put both the Series S with the 1tb it comes out more than the Series X’s storage (with 802 Gb available ) . If you have the money I’d recommend investing in the Series X, not only you get more space you get the better graphics, fps speed, and the disk drive for people who like to buy cd’s

I really like it, the picture and gaming difference is definitely noticeable and it would be worth it to get a 4k TV for it. I was very lucky to get the only one left within 250 miles of me. If you can find it, Xbox Series X would be a better value but I really love this one, just wish it had more space. External Storage costs like $200 which is a bit much.
I recommend getting a different 2.1 HDMI cable and to get a Vizio 4k TV as they are the best value 4k TV. I got the 30" one and it's beautiful. "OneConvey 8K HDMI Cable (HDMI 2.1) 6.5 Feet -Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable" From Amazon is the cord I got. Super strong, sturdy, and works better than the cord that came with the Xbox.
