Customers enjoy the gameplay, story, and characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country. Many praise the game's well-written story and engaging battle system, considering it a worthwhile addition to the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 universe. The significant amount of content and high value are also frequently highlighted. While some find the game shorter than the original, the positive aspects largely outweigh this minor drawback.

The True Backstory We Deserved

You do not need to own Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in order to play this. It's its own physical game. However, if you do own XC2 but didn't buy the Season Pass, this game gives you a code to get all the released Season Pass goodies. So if you choose to get XC2 after completing this it's a nice bonus. That's pretty cool.
The story itself isn't as strong as XC2, but it gives the perfect amount of backstory that sets up the events of XC2. And I greatly appreciate these characters. Especially seeing how they were shaped by this backstory.
Gameplay wise, it's such a huge step forward. The QoL updates are hugely appreciated. So much so that I hope they add them to the main game. Combat is so much better and smoother. Sadly healing seems to have gone the wrong way. It relies almost solely on switching between characters. There are moments when the AI creates healing potions when I don't need them. But when I desperately need them, the AI ignores it. So I either have to main healer or risk not getting any heals. One of the rare games where I feel being overleveled is needed.
Crafting on the go is huge. You can jump to any campfire on the map and make all kinds of items. Granted you collected enough materials while exploring. My only gripe about this is that I wish making key items was faster. It takes footwork to get the materials and is free. Compared to XC2 where you need to buy all the items from a shop before key items are unlocked.
Do you need to buy this expansion? I'd say 50/50. If you own XC2 and just want the extra backstory, sure. While it's not required, it's a good bonus to have. Don't have XC2 but want to get into it? Sure. Ultimately it's up to you.

There are many positive things that have been said of this game by other reviews on the Internet. Simply put, this is a great expansion of the original game's story. I would recommend playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 first to get its story, but Torna can be enjoyed without it. The story is well written, the voice acting has some minor flaws but shines really well, and the music is phenomenal. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a good story to sink into with fantastic music. This game is shorter than the full XC2 so you don't need to worry about the game being very drawn out. That being said, it has enough content to keep you occupied for a good while.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, and I didn't think an expansion could improve upon the gameplay of the base game so much. The expansion took me about 20 to 25 hours to beat with doing a decent amount of side activities.
The story was great, as to be expected from a Xenoblade Chronicles game. The music remixes made by Yasunori Mitsuda and the other composers are a wonderful addition, especially the jazzy Gormott theme. They improved on the gameplay in nearly every way, from the vanguard switch to harvest points showing what type of material you would recieve. Torna improves upon the mechanics of the base game in every way. Torna can be played seperately from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but I would recommend playing it after beating the base game to have a better understanding of the characters and the world. It is a solid recommendation for me and is one of my favorite games of the year.

This is a small but great experience. The battle system is slightly different and feels even better then the original. The music, story, and characters are also great. You only explore 2 Titand and the game should take you ~15-20 hours to beat and ~30 hours to 100%.

If you loved the base Xenoblade 2 game, you should already have this. If you haven't played that, I would recommend both of them. Xenoblade 2 had a great overarching story, a good battle system, and loads of content. This expansion takes all of that and makes it even better. While I would say to play the base game first where possible, if you are unsure of whether or not this kind of game is for you then this can still work as a cheaper entry-point. Some of the story beats and lore might go a little over your head but it can work as a standalone.
This Xenoblade 2 DLC effort stands up with some of the best DLC I've ever seen. Keep the Xenoblade coming MonolithSoft/Nintendo!

Excellent prequel to Xenoblade Chronicles 2! This game easily clocks in at 20-40 hours of gameplay, depending on how you like to play your games. I highly recommend, as it contains a new battle system, relatable characters, and a story that adds even more depth to characters appearing and/or referenced in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - The Golden Country is a must own for the Switch!

Torna the Golden Country is an expansion of the Action RPG Xenoblade Chronicles 2, that tells of the story of what became of Torna and explains how all the events lead to Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Compared to Xenoblade Chronicles 2, this expansion has a more refined story that focuses more on the characters than the epic story in the original game, to explain what happened to them and what their motives are in the future.
The story brings out more personality of each character with witty and enjoyable dialog so that you can understand the characters traits and characteristics. Where in the original some characters may have felt left aside for the main story, especially with the huge amount of rare blades to collect.
The combat is more refined with more focused roles for each character and more team attacks in combination with your character and their blades. It loses some flexibility since you cannot equip any blade to your characters, but in exchange feels more active and allows you to create new combinations when switching blades during combat.
Overall this is a great expansion that fills in the gaps of the story in the original game, and was a more enjoyable experience to play with it's focused story and gameplay.

Torna is an absolutely stellar expansion of the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 game and more than deserving of its standalone physical release, with a solid 40 hours of content to sink your teeth into that is arguably even better than the main game. It works as a standalone, so you don't need to have played XC2 to enjoy this, but for maximum enjoyment, I'd recommend playing through until the end of chapter 7, then play Torna to completion, then finish the main game. It works out beautifully and elevates XC2 from a great JRPG to one of the best of all time. This is a Bloodborne/Witcher 3 tier expansion, so don't pass it up.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna The Golden Country takes place before Xenoblade Chronicles 2 but it's recommended that you play 2 before this one.
It's an enjoyable game with new song tracks! I love the music in Xenoblade so it was quite a treat when I heard new songs in and out of battle. The characters are fresh and fun and fortunately you have a few party members to play with. The battle system has slight improvements. So far, from what I've played, it's a fairly long game and well worth the asking price. I highly recommend it to the Xenoblade fans out there.

good game. the story take's place 500 years before the main game and give's a history for some of the recurring character's like Mythra, Mikhail, Malo's, Brighid and Jin, reveal's full detail's on the origins and character of Addam and Lora and introduces some new character's that are part of that timeline. The gameplay is nice and polished and the ability to switch positions between driver and blade is an awesome mechanic that I wish could be in the main game.

This game is very fast paced compared to Xenoblade 2. It fixes all of the slow tutorial issues in Xenoblade 2 and does not require hours and hours of gameplay before you get to have full access to your party and combat. You basically get everything from the get-go, it is fantastic. This game is honestly great even if you haven't played Xenoblade 2 because it is the prequal. The story, character, and combat is fantastic, a great expansion to Xenoblade 2

Torna the Golden country is easily one of the best expansion to any game. It truly stands as a full prequel versus simple DLC. It refines and changes many aspects of the main Xenoblade Chronicles 2 game. It tells a truly riveting story with great, fast paced combat and a deep RPG system. I can't recommend it enough, especially for the price.

After all the time I spent playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I never thought i would want more.
Boy was I wrong. This game is a masterpiece of it's own, and worthy of every penny. It's that good. Few games have DLCs that are worthy of a full title release.
Now to clear up any confusion, this game is a standalone cartridge and you do not need to own/have played xenoblade Chronicles 2 to enjoy this.

This game is a great starter into the Xenoblade Chronicles series that chronologically takes place after the first game on Wii and New 3DS/2DS. It starts during the Aegis war some 500 years prior to the events of the main Xenoblade Chronicles 2 game. If you haven't played the series before this is a good game to start into as it guides you through some of the basics. I'm not terrible far into the game but it has been fun so far with good gameplay and cinematics that add to the rich storyline. I highly recommend this game if you are a JRPG fan or are just curious of what it has to offer and can spare upwards of 100 hours to explore it's world.
This game does include a DLC code that redeems on Switch for the Xenoblade 2 Season Pass, so if you have or buy the full game you will have that content available to you.
Interestingly enough you still have the option to buy the Season Pass after entering the code in the eShop, though it would be wholly unnecessary as the $40 you paid for this game includes it's game content while just paying the $30 for the Season pass would allow you to download and play this game while I'm assuming needing to have the main Xenoblade Chronicles 2 cartridge in the Switch. I purchased this game instead of the Season Pass directly to both save on the install size it would have needed to download to my Switch's memory card, but also to have the physical cartridge and case.

Its a great game dont know if its the fact i loved xenobladechronicles 2 or not. But this was a great addition to a story i already enjoyed immensely. The combat was diffrent for me and not what im used 2. Being a fan of hack and slash i ignored my usual interests and tried something diffrent and i loved it. Both games r great and the story is quite engaging.

A great addition to to the backstory of the characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Improvements to quality of life issues and a revamped fighting system make for a pleasurable change of pace. I don't recommend playing this before Xenoblade chronicles 2 even if it is called a prequel. It gives too much away and the improvements will be missed in the original game.
