Most Reliable Electronic Lock

I purchased several brands & models of Smart Locks to get the most reliable locks on my house. I bought Kwikset from a Big Box Store. I bought the Yale / NEST from Best Buy, and anticipated this would be the BEST lock. Was I surprised! I have 12) NEST IQ Cameras, NEST HELLO Doorbell, 6) Smoke / CO Alarms & 2) NEST Gen 3 Theremostats. So I am a NEST Fan! The Nest proved to be completely UNRELIABLE. 90% of the time you could not access it away from your own WiFi!
The Yale / Assure was my next choice, and it is 100% reliable. it ALWAYS is accessible, even out of the country! Yes, I tried it from Mexico. It is accessible via August, a free app, via Home (Apple), via Bluetooth, via WiFi, via Alexa & via Google!! You can select any or all of these protocols to operate the lock. Whereas the Yale / NEST had only ONE means of communication outside your house - NEST. I could not leave home & check on the lock status - EVER!
So I bought 3) NEST / Assure Locks. I have had 3) connected for 3) months without the first failure. They even offer an optional trigger, which I haven't connected yet - drill a hole & insert a sensor behind the deadbolt in your door & it will advise you by phone if your door is OPEN - a separate alert from UNLOCKED. This lock earned 5 Stars & have become a permanent fixture on my 3) doors. Kudos to Best Buy for taking back the unreliable Yale / NEST locks!! Thank You to BEST BUY & the HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION to Yale / Assure Lock SL with August. I would buy them tomorrow if I did not have them already installed!

Love this lock. It’s a little more black than rubbed bronze, which I’m pleased about. It works great! It’s so convenient to be able to use an app to lock and unlock the door. We have had previous keyless locks and this by far this one is the best. The only issue we have had is with the app not unlocking the door quick enough but it could be an internet connection issue.

No temporary keys like other but has remote access via apple home kit (must have iPad or Apple TV 4th gen as hub)
Lock or unlock from away from home, touch controls no physical buttons to wear out and easy to install

Not worth it.
The app doesn’t ever work
Programming is not fun
Can not unlock or lock unless you are at home
Can not set a lock code for a certain period of time
It’s literally just digital instead of buttons but $100+ more
and after just a year the batteries started wearing down monthly to weekly to daily where we were locked out of the house (there is not a key option)
Now just 2 years later it will not work at all.

Family wanted to do away with keys, and use something easy.
Installation was about 30 mins total (that includes removing the old key lock, and installing the new one). Setup for key-codes was a breeze, and the ability get alerts on our cell phones is perfect. The magic to lock the door via Siri was a nice added bonus!

I'm not a home improvement guy and pay people to install things like TV mounts, but I took this project on and was able to successfully install this myself. Generally, it works well, and I have appreciated being able to go keyless in using the keypad, the August app, or the Home app to open and close. My biggest gripe is that when I replace the double-AA batteries, it loses HomeKit connectivity, and I have to re-do it, and the batteries last long enough so I forget the steps and re-figure out to make sure everything is back to the way it is supposed to work.

Installation was quick and easy. (I used the BILT app for better step by step visuals while installing.) I have had no trouble with the August app for setting up passcodes for myself and guests (including temporary codes!), using remote lock and unlock, setting up connection with my Google home, and checking lock status. Because of the weather stripping I have for that door, I need to hold the door tight when locking and unlocking (as I did with my manual deadbolt), so I have yet to use the auto-lock and auto-unlock features.
Within a week of owning this lock, there was one occasion during which the lock was completely non-responsive with no obvious reason. The touch screen would not light up and app could not detect the lock. Fortunately, there are multiple keyed entrances to my house, so this fluke did not leave me locked out. From inside the house, I removed a battery and replaced it to reset the lock and have not had any trouble since that incident. I am not sure if these flukes are common (maybe in very cold weather?) or just a rare exception to normal functionality, but I will post an update if there are any future incidents.
Pros: Easy installation, convenient app, permanent and temporary codes or access via August app for guests, stylish design
Cons: Some small chance of getting locked out if there is no backup plan

I did not have an existing deadbolt, so before I installed this one, I put the product together, not on a door, to make sure it would work as I expected. It did so I then did the handyman work on the door of drilling holes, etc. After installing the lock, I went through the process of resetting the lock so I could go through its initial calibration. That part went ok. But when it got to inserting the WIFI card to connect to wifi for HomeKit, I couldn't get it to connect to wifi again. I went through a series of resetting, setup, inserting/removing the wifi card. It took a combination of changing the order of each step to make it work correctly.
So that part was annoying. But probably if I never set it up before I actually installed it, I could have avoided the problem. Now it works great. No issues with it not responding or disconnecting. It doesn't work instantaneously when sending the command to lock/unlock. I've had various results. Usually between 5 and 30 seconds.
Overall I like it and would recommend it.

I love this product! When doing research between the Nest x Yale Lock and the Yale Lock there were two things that made my decision justifiable: the price was nearly $100 less and it supported Apple HomeKit. Programming was simple. I established permanent and temporary codes as needed. I was able to remove codes with ease. It does take a little getting used to with the button pressing but after 10 minutes you should be alright. I love having this smart lock because my alternate keys are either my iPhone, Apple Watch, or iPad. When I pull up to my house and tell my Apple Watch to “unlock the front door” I always think about how far we have come technologically.

Easy to install. The turn knob is easy to use and better looking than the tuna can from another model. It’s also great to not have to manage a key. There are options for a code, use your fingers, or your phone app for unlocking or locking the door. We were on the other side of the world and received a notification that our door was locked. This works easily with the Apple Home Kit.

I like this door lock. I bought it WITH the August Connection Device, which I use often. Though sometimes I have difficulty connecting to it through my phone. Otherwise, I now have one less key to carry on me since I use my phone to lock or unlock this device. I also allow my maid service a certain time frame in which they can use a code to use the door lock to enter my house when I'm not there! Then it quickly notifies me whenever the door is locked or unlocked, or whether the code was used or not! I'm pretty happy with this deadbolt.

The install onto the door was very simple as well as setting up our 4 digit passcode. However, the longest and most frustrating part of this install was getting it to connect to our iPhones. The instructions provided failed on our iPhones as well as multiple youtube tutorials. By chance, we were able to connect it to the Apple Home app. Ultimately we got it working, but it shouldn't have been so complicated.

After 6 months of researching smart locks I chose the Yale Assure SL to test on our home before buying for our business. The locks were on sale so I bought two and decided to open and install only one. If I didn’t like the lock I could return the second one unopened.
I removed the old deadbolt and discovered I needed to enlarge the hole to 2-1/8” in the door to fit the smart lock. A trip to the hardware store to buy a kit with a door lock jig and two hole saws took longer than the few minutes it took to mark and cut the new hole in the door and extend the deadbolt latch hole in the door frame. A few minutes later the lock was installed and ready to set up.
Some reviewers had complained the written setup instructions were wrong. I was happily surprised when, after carefully following the accompanying written instructions, which I verified by viewing the Yale lock app setup instructions, the setup went smoothly.
The lock works great as advertised! I will be installing the second lock for our business.

The lock knows when I'm arriving home through my cell phone location and the door automaically unlocks. In return, if you forget to lock the door on your way out, the lock automatically locks itself using your phone location.
If you're comfy watching TV in the living room or your own bedroom you can ask alexa to unlock the door or you can use the app to unlock the door.
You can also have temporary unique codes for many different people that they may have access to. You can always disable any code you'd like.
The app also allows you to see if the door is locked, unlocked, left open or closed. The app and the lock are both very easy to use.
Great device! It would also be a super nice gift for anyone. I would definitely like to give this as a gift for my dad on his birthday, but the price is a little high, so I just need to start saving.

I love the functionality of this deadbolt. It is nice having it tied to HomeKit as it unlocks as soon as I pull in the driveway and locks automatically after a few minutes.
The keypad is also great. My 3 year old daughter loves running up to the door so she can put her code in.
It’s also nice that I can program more codes than I will ever need remotely. Comes in handy when we have house guest who need the code. I can set them a temporary code of their choosing so they don’t have to try to remember our code. Plus, it’s nice that only my immediate family has the main code.
Setup is a breeze. No more difficult than installing a standard deadbolt. One thing of note: take a picture of the HomeKit “code” printed on the WiFi module (orange thing). Makes it easier to link to your HomeKit if you don’t have to remove the cover.

This is my second keyless combo entry lock. The first I had to take back. This works great after installation and app download. The instructions did not include how you invite other members of the household to access the app and control it from their phone. It automatically downloads it to the Home App which we did not know. That's where you invite other users. After you figure that out, it works great especially when Siri opens and locks the door for you.

I have a lot of new and connected technology in my house and wanted to try out an electronic door lock. I opted for this Yale because I thought I had read that it had proximity capability and only realized after install that it does not. It’s great looking, easy to install and easy to use though if you want to be able to walk up to your door and have it Auto Unlock, you need to buy a different model.

I just moved and always liked the idea of having a deadbolt with a keypad. I give my close friends and family their own codes so I don't have to worry about giving out a key. It's easy to install and works like a charm. Only reason for not giving it 5 stars is because when you add codes you can't assign names to them and you can only have remote access to this lock if you have a HomeKit hub like a new AppleTV.
