As a touch screen lock it works great. Easy instalation except setting up the august connect. The instructions aren't very straightforward. The august connect module is where the good ends. This is used to communicate between the lock and your wifi so you can unlock it from anywhere. The issue is that is doesn't stay connected. I tried multiple outlets and even went as far as putting it literally next to the lock. It works for a little while, but always disconnects and takes away the whole purpose of the smart functionally. It also was having a hard time connecting to my Google Home. I ended up returning the lock and purchasing the more expense Nest X yale lock. My recommendation is if your looking for a cheaper touch screen lock its not a bad option, but if your buying to for smart home functionally spend the extra money for the Nest X Yale lock.

    Feature packed but, quirky setup

This lock is living in the year 3000. I honestly had no idea that a lock this technologically advanced existed. It really is a wild and incredibly useful device but, the setup was definitely not seem less and took way longer than I thought it would. And that wasn't because of the actual installing a lock part. That was actually the easy part, getting the tech to work right was a little more complicated than I'd like. What's in the box: In the box you get the Assure lock, which features a traditional key entry as well as a touchscreen that will illuminate with numbers when activated. You also get an August connect which you can use to connect the lock to the August app and control the lock via Bluetooth and wifi. You also get a little white censor that you can mount to the door frame or inside the door frame to let you know if the door is open. You also get a deadbolt plate if you need to replace or don't have one on your door frame. Setup: It took a while. If you already have a deadbolt set in your door, you really shouldn't have to do much drilling. I just took out the old deadbolt and swapped in this one. It installs almost just like any other deadbolt with the exception of a ribbon wire that you have to route through the door from the touchpad to the deadbolt motor. It sounds more difficult than it actually is. This part of the install is actually very easy. Once I got the lock installed and put a battery in it. I was greeted with a friendly voice, yes the lock has a speaker. The initial setup is fairly straightforward. You follow a series of menus, which you navigate through the touchpad and the voice guiding you, that are in the instructions and set a master pin. There are some other functions you can turn on and off from the keypad menu like autolock and guest codes but, you can do all this fro. The August app once you set that up so, no real reason why you'd want to do it this way. After the pin is set you then set up the August connect. This is where things weren't as smooth. The first step of the August install is to install the door sensor. It's a small sensor about the size of a thumbnail that you rather screw to the door frame or mount inside the door frame by drilling a hole and sliding it in the door frame. I chose the hidden doorframe method because I thought having the sensor visible was fairly unsightly. Installing the sensor wasn't very hard, all you need is a wood bit and a drill. You drill the holes and the sensor sits flush with the inside of the door frame. It looks super slick. But, there's one problem. The instructions just tell you to pop it in the hole but, if you wobble the drill at all and make the hole even a little too big, it isn't a super snug fit. And because I have a metal front door, and the sensor is nothing more than a big magnet, it would attach to the door as it opened almost every time. I fixed this with a little liquid nail in the hole but, seems like some adhesive should have been included. After you have the sensor installed you install the connect module. This process is awful. The initial setup has you connect the Connect module through the internet through some sort of apple airport process that failed the first three times I tried it. But, before it failed, it tried to connect the device to every wifi connection my phone had ever been connected to. It was strange. I finally got it to work when I connected my phone the the 2.4ghz connection on my router because, I guess this device doesn't have a 5ghz radio. The whole process was not straightforward and detracted from the whole setup. After the connect is connected to WiFi, it has you calibrate the door sensor. This is done by opening and closing the door in a series of positions. This process also failed several times before it actually worked. I have no idea why it finally worked but, it did so I guess that's something. Once you have the lock calibrated you can use all the functions of the August app like setting autolock times. E.g. if the door is closed for 2 minutes it auto locks. There are functions to text people temporary codes that will only work for certain times that you set. You can have over 200 of these at a time. There's another cool feature that auto unlocks the door when it senses your phone via Bluetooth. I was really shocked at how well this worked. The door would unlock when I got home but, not until I was within a foot or so from the door. Really cool. You can also lock and unlock the lock from the app too from anywhere. Other problems: I'm not a huge fan of the method used to lock the door from the outside. To do so, you place your palm over the touchscreen. The whole motion is awkward and not super easy to get right. This should have been made easier. I also ran into a problem that my deadbolt plate was fractions of an inch off. The bolt would still latch and I had no problem fully engaging the lock manually but, the motor in the lock would get hung just before it latched fully. It seems a more powerful motor could have been used or a better calibrated lock to just give a little more push. I was able to file the deadbolt plate a little and now it works fine. Also, the deadbolt plate screws provided are no where long enough to be effective. They are very short, less than one inch. Overall, now that I'm passed the setup and initial hiccups, I'm very pleased with the lock. It works great, the app is easy to use, the keypad is responsible. Really it works well and gets out of the way. The only thing that should change is an easier setup process.
