Let's start by saying that I own rental properties, and all of them have electronic door locks. I find it easier to provide my tenants PINs versus KEYS - and I erase all PINs and provide the tenants new ones every 3-6 months, or whenever I feel like too many people know what the PINs are. Very convenient indeed! That said - this Yale Real Living WiFi Touch lock installed easily in about 15 minutes and it took me another 15 min to program it the way I want. If you've ever installed a deadbolt - this is a snap. They even have a 3D tutorial you can watch on your phone! The lock comes with an August module gets inserted into the lock that connects to the August WiFi receiver - this is how the August app communicates with the lock. I kinda that that was a bit hokey - but seems to be working well thus far. In addition, the lock comes with a Door sensor that when installed can tell if your door is open or closed - informing the lock to not extend the deadbolt while the door is open. I haven't installed the DoorSense sensor yet as I need to make some modifications to the door/jamb do to my specific setup. Overall - there are quite a few features available within the August App - like auto unlock when you come home and auto lock based on a timer, etc. Since it's an app - August can add more features over time and the lock should be able to handle them! The keypad is slick too. The numbers light up upon touch the face of the keypad - and are easy to read in the night or daylight. Overall - impressed thus far! If you're looking for a smart lock for your home, cabin, rental property, garage, etc - this Yale Real Living lock is simple to setup and flexible to use!

There are plenty of locks with keypads out in the market but this Yale lock takes it 10 steps further. Pros: • Clean interface • Super easy install • Comes with everything needed to install Cons: • Door sensing sensor requires drilling (for cleaner look) • A bit pricey The clean interface is what first drew me to this lock. The number pad is hidden and only appears with lit numbers behind a black glass display. Install was super easy and can easily be done in less than 30 minutes if your door already had a deadbolt installed. The install instructions were robust and the phone app does a guided install. Why this lock stands out from the rest is the “smartness” that August powered locks can offer. It comes with the “brains” chip that goes into the lock and a wifi bridge so you can access your lock from your phone app anywhere in the world. The ability to use the August app to lock and unlock your lock is amazing. I can always check the app to see if the door is ajar or unlocked. Other noteworthy features from the August app is the ability to set auto lock times. I can set it to lock within 2 minutes. Perfect if I was just running out the door and knowing that it will lock automatically. Another great feature is to set different passcodes for your family members and see via push messages on who unlocked the lock, etc. A recent feature I utilized was using google home to unlock the lock with my voice. I was expecting company over but they rang the doorbell right when I was washing my hands. A simple “Hey Google, unlock the front door” and telling google my passcode, the door was magically unlocked via voice. I highly recommend this lock to anyone looking to have a keyless experience and the ability to add it to their connected smart home. What stand this lock apart from others are the trusted guts of a Yale but the brains of August to execute. Love this lock!

THE BREAKDOWN: This product is another line of the ever growing WiFi/Bluetooth wireless door locks. All my testing was done with an iOS device/devices. The packaging was very well done. It was just enough packaging to get the product delivered. In the box was everything needed to get this product up and running. The installation took me about 15 min for the hardware. This is a very simple task for anyone who has changed a deadbolt before. Once the actual hardware was installed I downloaded the app and begin to set up the lock using the app. I like to think of myself as a tech person ( as I am a developer by trade) but I had some issues after creating master PIN. I could not get the lock to calibrate. I called tech support and they walked me through some steps and had to escalate my issue. I finally got the issue resolved on the third call to tech support. After a few factory resets and removing the module a few times the lock is finally working as intended. The lock itself is very well made. I love the feel and heft of it as it makes you feel like it is very secure. One more thing that I really liked was the backing was actual rubber not plastic giving the lock just another level of polish. One feature about the lock that worries me is the screen where you put your PIN in is made of what appears to be glass and I found a few smudges on there after a few days of use. This could potentially be a security risk. I just try and wipe if off when I remember. One thing that I haven’t gotten to work yet is actually using the Home Kit on my iOS device. I have tried several times but it cannot find it for some reason. PRO’s: -Very well built and stylish -Super easy hardware installation -Lots of customizable features -Has an actual key as a backup -August app keeps track of activity -Can be used and monitored remotely -Can issue temporary PIN numbers -Auto lock feature -Uses DoorSense to let you know if the door is ajar CON’s: -I had trouble with the application setup -Apple Home kit still isn’t working for me SUMMARY: Overall, I feel that this product is not only elegant but gives confidence and reliability. It is packed with customizable features that gives a homeowner many possibilities. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Had this lock for 6 months, batteries have died twice now with no warning. I don't use this lock much, if it got 25 commands in the last 6 months I'd be surprised. August wifi rarely connects, receiver needs to be within 5 feet of door. Then it can't pick up my wifi even though everything else farther away has no problem.(Maybe that is what is killing batteries.) I had bought two of these units, but immediately after installing the first one I knew the second was a waste so returned. I may remove the August module and see if thing improved with just the lock. Will update review if it does.

Great Lock, getting it to sync was a chore

Installing the deadbolt was pretty straight forward if you've ever done a regular one before. I ran into one snag. I wanted to use this on my fire rated garage entry door which is only 1 3/8 inches thick. The old deadbolt holes worked perfectly, but when I went to tighten the back side to the keypad, it was snug, but wiggled. I didn't have many washers lying around, so I took two of the smallest I had and shimmed each bolt. The problem was that the lock needed to clear the bolts and washers. I ended up filing the washers flat on the one side, which allowed the lock to be tight and fit. Once installed, I entered a master password and a second user code and it was good. I started to add the August app and module and thus began my day long headache. I tried multiple times to get the lock and module to sync. Each time I found there was something I had missed. Once I got registered with August and got the app working, I thought I was in the clear. Nope, everything looked good on my app, but it would connect. Just a gray pulsing button of doom. I emailed August and they were great. We must have sent a half dozen emails back and forth, trying to get it to work. I tried each suggestion without success, but by days end the final suggestion worked. If anyone else has this issue, this is what worked for me. I took out one battery, then the module. Waited 10 seconds and put the module then battery back. The unit lit up and welcomed me. I then turned my Google Pixel phone off, so the app was off for sure. I entered the master password on the keypad, hit the gear button, then 7, then 3. I booted up the Pixel and tried it again. Tada...gray button turned into a green donut and my door was unlocked. I touched it once and it went solid red and I heard the door lock. I would say the the app, module and included instructions could use some help, but the August individuals that supported me through emails was awesome. They answered each email within an hour, so after a day I had 5-6 replies giving me support. I don't think you'll find too many companies that actually give that kind of excellent service. Many claim to, but few do. I'd give them a 10 out of 10 for customer service! So the lock itself. It's great. I can exit the house and just palm the keypad and the door locks. I can palm it when I return and enter either programmed code to enter. I haven't used the app to unlock the door as I approach, but I believe that's possible to if I activate something. After the networking issues, I just happy the way it is. If I get locked out of the house, I can key open the garage door and then key open the house and that was my goal with this lockset. I'd recommend it to anyone, just install it on a day that you have patience. And if you run into network issues, email or contact August. I'm sure you'll be treated the same as I as they seem to really care about their product and consumer.

This is not about the product itself. It is about the bestbuy's quality. This week I bought the new yale smart lock online but it came as a used one. If this is something like TV, I might just take it. But for smart lock, it is not acceptable. Who knows if the physical key was copied. Hope best buy can exchange it for me.

    The Future!

Get ready for the future of smart homes. If you have several smart home devices in your home and have yet to get a smart lock you are missing out. Installation was simple and only required a screwdriver. It is straight forward even if you have never installed a door lock before. Just uninstall the old hardware and this just pops right in. Total time took me about 30 minutes, would’ve been faster without a toddler wanting to help. After you download the app it walks you through the rest of installation instructions. Plug in the August module, connect to your network, set a master pin and you are good to go. The app is where you will do all your additional settings. You can set smart alerts and notifications. Set the lock to auto open or auto lock when you leave or come home. You can set separate access pins to each family member so you know who has accessed the door. The app also lists each door activity, like door was locked manually, door is open, door locked by touch etc... good way to keep a history of events or know who’s coming and going. I love that I can now come home from grocery shopping with a handful of bags and not have to fumble for keys to unlock my door. It is very convenient also when I go for a quick walk around my neighborhood I don’t have to bring my keys or phone I can just come back home and unlock my front door with my pin. Overall I would highly recommend this product. Some people may be hesitant to purchase this product because they don’t know how to install a door lock but they provide online videos and how-to’s and it’s is easier than it looks.

This is a very sleek lock and very functional lock. I would typically use it for my front door but you can use it for any door facing the outside of your home. download the free August app. And then set up the new device via prompting. Install your Yale lock which typically will take you 10 minutes to uninstall whatever lock you already have and another 30 to 45 minutes to install the new lock. Make sure you follow all the directions. Install doorsense which is optional (detects it door is open or closed) And then connect your Yale lock via start set up. Once you confirm a model registration you are complete and ready to use the system as it is completely set up. Forget to lock your front door you are covered. Have visitors coming in and you’re not home you’re covered. It even works with Alexa and Google. Comes with batteries as well, that typically last for six months or longer. The key portion is optional as well even if you still like to have a peace of mind for opening with a key. Again the touchscreen keypad locking automatically & voice automatically makes this Yale lock a fancy clever and functional device, I like it.

    Heavy Duty with Companion App

When Initially opened this smartlock I was scared that I had made a mistake. I thought that the installation was going to be difficult and that i would mess something up. This wasnt the case. This lock is nothing to joke about, its heavy duty frame and deadbolt gives me more than enough comfort than what i had expected. The set up was a breeze too, it comes with everything that is needed to install (aside from some basic tools). One small reminder is that the door needs to be fit for a deadbolt and that, not just any door will be compatible. Its quiet too, my old deadbold was loud and clunky, the mechanical arm is smooth and sufficient. On the other hand the companion app had some trouble connecting to my device, it couldhave been my WiFi. Connection aside, the functions are pretty self explanatory and will be easy to learn if you are familiar with smart devices. All in all this smart lock checks all of the boxes for my comfort and satisfaction. Highly recommended.

I couldn’t wait to open the box for this touchscreen deadbolt so that I could install it. I have been very excited to try this thing out and see if I would like it as much as I have heard about them. I am very impressed with it and I found it very easy to set up and install. I already had the August Home app loaded onto my phone so be sure to get that first. The August Home app will have the instructions on how to actually install the deadbolt. I used the included video so do this and it explains everything, I had and issue with installing it, but it was due to the hole in my door jam where the lock goes into not being deep enough. I had to drill it out about an 1/8” in order for the deadbolt to be fully engaged. I did have to look up how to remove the old deadbolt, but that was no problem either. Once you get everything installed, everything you need is included in the box, then you can start the set up process on the key pad to set your master PIN. The actual lock will walk you through this process and its easy to do. The app is where all of the magic happens, as others have stated, you have a lot of different options on setting up PINs for other people, scheduling access, showing an activity log of the deadbolts actions and who did it, and of course, locking and unlocking using the app. The sound the lock makes when it is either locking or unlocking is not loud, but it enough to know that it is doing something. I was able to link this lock to my google home account and I can now tell google to lock and unlock it. When you unlock it, google will ask you for your PIN, but it won’t ask when you lock it. I am really looking forward to getting another unit for my front door now, I installed this on my garage door.

This new Yale touch pad lock with the August connection is replacing an older key pad lock I had. The Yale had so many more features that make it a winner. Setup is straight forward and easy using the IPhone app to guide you through the process. The instillation of the lock itself is similar to any other manual dead bolt lock. The difference is when adding the August included module and the August WiFi bridge which are the brains of the locks operation. There is also a module that alerts you to doors that are left ajar. Once setup the lock is very easy to use and has a voice assistant that announces the operations that have taken place. The app shows the actions or who's coming and going by the each individual pass code that have been setup. You can also use Alexa to lock and unlock the lock. This is a good addition to any automated home.

We LOVE this thing. As a Mom of 2 toddlers this allows me to not need to fumble through my purse for my keys to unlock the door. If you know you know. My husband installed it and he said it wasn’t too bad of an install. We didn’t need anything super fancy. Just something we could unlock with our phones or via a door code. You have to be in range and connected to it to unlock it remotely though. Go a step higher if you need that feature!

This is almost a perfect lock, the lock itself is very nice and looks amazing! The only issues I have are the battery consumption with HomeKit(it really does go through batteries) and that sometimes- often- it will disconnect with the WiFi and not work or give me wrong info(like if the door is open or not). BUT, when it works it WORKS! I LOVE coming home and the door automatically unlocks for me! And it works with HOMEKIT which is 100% the reason I went with this lock over many others... I do like that battery replacement is easy (since I got to do it often). Setup was a bit of a pain but worth it. I wish there was a little solar panel on the front outside part so to help with battery consumption but also let the keypad work even with dead batteries, yes I know there are physical keys but the whole point of a smart lock is to go keyless... and I do wish there was a ultra fast NFC unlock as well with my iPhone or Apple Watch.
