Yale prove it again with this Smart door lock

Good looking Chrome finish, sturdy and feels high quality as Yale has always being known Comes with a key backup, two extra keys and a door sense, so it will lock automatically once it detects the door is close. The touchscreen pad allows to put the code that will unlock. You can set several and different codes, you have a master code and can create other combinations with schedule times and dates which I found very clever, though the august app. It also tells you when it is low on Batt. Setup is simple, Wi-Fi connectivity that will let you know when somebody is getting in or out through the app. The unit comes with 4 AA batteries for the Door lock to operate. And when the unit starts to run out of battery, the app will tell you so you can replace them on time. It operates with 4 AA Batt, I highly recommend to get rechargeable ones. I feel confident with this Door lock, I was skeptical at the beginning but once I saw it in action I can see that is very reliable and secure.

The instructions are lacking(there are several different models with major differences, but they include a single model's paper version), but when you figure out how it should go together it works really well. There are digital instructions that you can download with a QR code, but I didn't check to see if they were different until I ran into the instructions not matching up to my lock. I had a little issue with the wifi module, but that is because there isn't an outlet close enough to make the wifi connection (apparently in the 80s when my house was made, you couldn't possibly have needed power near the front door). Overall a good purchase!

I'm pretty handy with things around the house, but with the instructions provided, it's a simple install for anyone. I installed mine on my impact rated French door. for me the most frustrating part was connecting it to my wifi because I have 5G and supposedly it doesn't support it. After a few tries I got it to work and it ran smoothly for a few weeks but something happen where it lost connection. I believe it had to do with the 5G because I couldn't get it to reconnect. So every time I had some time I would try to connect. Finally I got it connected and it has been flawless ever since. I'm not sure why, didn't do anything different but it works perfect now. What I like about this lock is that even if it loses connection to wifi, you won't have any problems unlocking with keypad because the lock stores the codes. and worst case scenario you always have the key for back up. but I haven't even had to ever use it. Highly recommend to everyone and now just waiting for my Alexa so I can lock/unlock via voice control

    Great lock for HomeKit use

I had another brand of smart deadbolt this Yale that ate batteries and only auto unlocked when arriving home about 40% of the time. The Yale lock on the other hand works consistently, doesn't seem to drain the batteries and it easier to use in general. It just works the way you'd expect it to consistently. Installation was really quick and I just basically swapped out the old deadbolt parts for the Yale. The motor proves to be strong enough, but you do have to make sure your deadbolt turns pretty easily as with any electronic lock. I use Apple HomeKit for my integration, and the lock status syncs perfectly with HomeKit and works quickly (e.g. no delays). You can check the status and lock/unlock with Siri too as long as your phone is unlocked.

Amazing smart lock basics functions are solid and opens with Apple watch and iPhone. I did have it professionally installed so can’t comment on ease of installing but was quick and easy to setup on everyone’s phone. Don’t know how we lived without one for so long, at the top have list and it is used dozens of times a day. Does not have the fancier features of camera with facial recognition or fingerprint etc but I have another security system for videos so did not want to spend money duplicating videos. Never have to worry about forgetting my keys again.

I really like this lock. You can schedule certain times to be open or certain times to lock. It has a sensor to auto lock after the door has been closed for a set amount of time. You can open it so many ways but it's all so secure - open by code, by key, by device (requires authentication), and by alexa (alexa requires a voice code to unlock but will lock it up and confirm that it locked when you tell it to lock the door). It also can schedule certain times that specific codes will work so you can give it to like repair/service crews and you can set it for like 1 time use/specific day and time use/free access. I also like how it keeps a log of who is coming into your house.

Physically, it is very easy to install if your door matches up. Mine did. Setting up features is a bit frustrating. Download the yale app, download the August app. Why? Who knows. They seem to operate the same way. Scan the QR code. Where is it? The answer seems to be "somewhere". It might be under the battery cover, it might be somewhere else in the lock, it might be in the instructions somewhere. Mine was in none of these places - mine was with the August plug in, but then it still didn't register. Why? Who knows? Maybe I was in the wrong app, I tried the August app and the yale app but who knows. OK, great - enter the serial number - but which one? No one will tell you, so just start entering random numbers in there and hope they work. Whoops the app crashed - back to the beginning. It comes with a wi-fi bridge to plug in - but you have to figure out that it what it is on your own. It comes with a door sensor - figure that out too. Apparently the app has instructions, but you need to scan the qr code to ge the installation instructions or enter the serial number. Both the yale app and august app work exactly the same, once you register that it. I had to reenter the information in 3x because it kept crashing when I went to enter the code that they emailed me to verify my email. It took a couple of hours, but I finally got it working where I can control it from my phone and unlock codes work. It also supposedly works with Alexa, but I have no idea how and nothing they give you tells you how. The alexa app refuses to discover the device. 3 stars because I think that it will work well now that I have it mostly set up and it seems to be a pretty good quality lock.

My house is mostly automated, sprinklers, lights, speakers, kitchen appliance,...etc. I have one lock that I replaced with Yele last year, was more than willing to replace all my door locks. This Yale - Real Living Wi-Fi Touch Screen Deadbolt - Satin Nickel connected by August is great feature enables Apple HomeKit using a module. Installation took me about an hour. Make sure to follow the module setup steps carefully. Smartphone app is great and has a bunch of features.

All in all, this lock is fine. I have some issues with it primarily around the need to pull the batteries once every week or two, otherwise it simply stops working. It also seems to eat up AA batteries. I’m on my third Set of batteries since late October of 2021. The features of it are nice however between auto lock and Auto Unlock as I approach the door after returning home. It also has helped remove my anxiety over whether or not I remembered to lock the door at night. Still hoping it gets better over time. I just replaced the batteries last Tuesday and haven’t had to power cycle it yet, we’ll see what this week brings. My other issue is that it can’t be deleted to match our existing keys. So now we have all our exterior doors on a single key except this one. That can be frustrating and you apparently cannot go get copies made, you have to get them from Yale to my knowledge (I could be very wrong here, but my locksmith told me that).

Great Lock but August setup can be problematic

Great Lock..was easy to install except as others have pointed out..the August module and activation was problematic...so I knocked a star off for that. I thing the module was very unforgiving to activate.. it looked like the process froze before completing the setup and I ended up deleting the app and starting setup again. This was a huge mistake on my part. I should have just closed the app and reopened it. Anyway I ended up with an app on my phone that wasn’t set up far enough to access my August account and an August module in the lock that was associated to that account. I had to go through August support to do a factory reset on the module. So it took a couple extra days to finish the setup in the app. I think mainly because I had not realized that my account was set up after I thought the setup had froze during initial installation. They were good to work with but it was a bit frustrating I had to go through this exercise. I would suggest that if you run into issues activating the August module/account on your phone DO NOT delete the app as I did...call or IM August tech support as they may be able to help you finalize setup and not have to go through the longer process of them resetting the module. It’s been about 3 weeks now and the lock and app work great. Even with the setup issue I like this lock and would get it again.

Got this lock so that we can make sure the house is locked up when we are away. Also works with smart assistants like Alexa, so I can ask for the house to be locked up. Only complaint is the battery life. If you use the app or smart assistants for locking, the battery life can shorten to a month or two.

I recently upgraded from a standard, manual lock to this smart lock. I really love how easy it was to install and how easy it is to use. Setting up the August feature to be able to lock / unlock the lock from a smart phone was a little cumbersome but nothing too crazy. This looks very nice when installed as well.

Overall, this is a solid smart lock. Pros: Clean looking, smudge-free keypad is great for when you can’t reach your phone. Solid construction and overall build quality is superb. When you turn the lock it feels solid and secure. Cons: Setup is a little weird, both with hardware and software (coming from an IT professional). The instructions are not the greatest and are sort of split between paper and an option for online platform to walk you through install. The lock will not calibrate until doorsense is added (it’s their sensor to tell you if your dock is closed or not) problem is we are painting the entire house and won’t be able to get to that door in the next 3 months. Without calibration the lock is hit or miss on fully locking. This is on me not painting so I don’t take anything off their star rating for that - I do however think it’s odd that a standard August lock can be calibrated with or without doorsense and I assumed this product would be the same but apparently not. All in all a great product.

I wasn’t sure about these smart locks, but after almost a year, I love it! It was SUPER easy to install and get hooked up to my WiFi and phone. Love that anyone I want to set up can have a unique code. I can set it up to work specific dates/times or leave it active all the time. I can also see every person, date, time someone used their code to unlock the door. To lock the door I just have to put my hand on the face. I especially love the ease of use with the app. I can take my dog for a walk and have the door unlocked while heading back towards the house. I haven’t used the auto-unlock/lock feature. My only complaint is that randomly the lock engages when I haven’t told it to and that is normally when closing the door so the lock slams into the door jamb as I am closing it. I’m worried I am going to break it off. Not sure if it is picking up a shadow to think we hit the face to engage the lock or what. It has happened too often and also to my husband for it to be an accidental hit of the face. I do highly recommend and am about to order another for the back door.

Our whole family loves the ease of use this thing provides! Either have it auto lock or just touch the Yale logo and it locks. Punch in your code or use your phone and it unlocks. You can have temporary codes for maids or visitors and you can get notifications every time someone unlocks the door. This is one of the best purchases I’ve made in a long time!

It was easy to install and we are not handymen. Instructions could have been better but we figured it out without too many problems. Works great. We did not install the bluetooth so I can't comment on that. But we like the touchscreen entry. The deadbolt seems pretty sturdy and strong. We are pleased with this purchase.

The YRD226 model is on the way out. The first one I bought worked very well. However, required a Yale Connect hub to work with internet. Paid plenty for additional (in oil rubbed bronze) to match new home. Didn't come with module nor Yale Connect, and found that those components are hard to find. Best Buy TotalTech paid off as I was able to return for store credit (kind of got caught between old and new models) and upgrade to the YRD450 which comes with the module with internet built in (no more Yale Connect hub needed for internet)--so simpler and works better. Go that rough--though the YRD226 is a solid lock if you can get it on sale or used.

Ugh, this is so close to great, but it's failure mode is very disappointing. Overall installation and setup is very good. I do wish the app was a bit better. For starters, the smart alerts would be easier to manage if you could set them across a whole home or account, versus lock by lock. I also wish things like "door ajar" as an alert could be configured time-wise. I also wish you could have multiple locks use the same wifi adapter. Perhaps you can do this, but I couldn't figure it out. The most important problem though is that when the lock fails, it doesn't always fail loudly. For starters, I'd say the lock freezes an average of once per 4-6 week period (i.e., it can be used manually, but the electronics simply stop responding and you have to unscrew the cover to power-cycle the battery). That's not super frequent, but it's still disappointing. This would all be more forgivable, if the app detected the failure and notified me every time. Sometimes it does notify me properly, but more than once I've had the app show me a lock was active and properly locked, but it was incorrect, the lock was just sitting there unlocked and the keypad was frozen.
