I bought this product because of generally good reviews for a budget priced sound bar, here and including Consumer Reports. I found the audio quality absolutely dreadful. I am just looking for voice quality, not audiophile performance. This sound bar has serious resonances and distortion in the mid range resulting in garbled speech. There is a button for "clear voice" but it does nothing. The other buttons for surround sound music whatever also make no discernable difference in the sound output. The worse feature (or lack of) is that I cannot pair this with a Directtv remote to control volume or turn it on or off. I was able to get volume control using the hdmi arc connection and the Sony sync compatible feature on my TV, but I still cannot get turn on/off and I get a popup every time I turn the TV on to program the new device which of course is not possible.

Hooked up to an older Samsung tv. I couldn’t get it to work. The geek squad did, the tv didn’t have HDMI arc connection and had a bad optical port. He hooked it up through the HDMI on the tv and optical port on the cable box. It worked but the sound shuts off very frequently. The squad is coming out again 10/29.
Hopefully it will be resolved.

Great soundbar that doesn't try to be what its not

This is a great soundbar that doesn't try to be what it's not. ....I will explain more what that means in a bit.
First we will talk about everyone's favorite thing, the unboxing! The unit came packaged very well packed up nice and tight in Styrofoam blocks so there wont be any damage. Getting it out of the box was a cinch, and getting it up and running was even easier. It comes with the bar, sub, manuals, cables, and a handy template for mounting it on the wall. The only thing mine didn't come with was screws to mount it on the wall, so you will need to supply those.
It was very easy to get mounted. You just use the provided paper template to mark your 2 holes. Put in 2 screws (and anchors if you aren't in a stud) and then you can easily hang the bar on the wall. Its very minimalistic looking with no display or anything on the front so it just blends right in and you hardly notice its there.
The subwoofer you can place anywhere in the room. All you have to do is plug it in and as soon as you power on the soundbar it will automatically find the sub and connect to it. It doesn't get any easier than that!
You have a couple options of connecting the bar to your TV. I used an optical connection coming out of my TV into the bar. That way anything that is plugged into my TV will have the sound come through the bar. You can also use an HDMI connection if you choose to do that as well. There are no analog connections like RCA jacks though. It does also have bluetooth though, so you can connect most phones and things to it that way as well.
Now I will get to what I mean when I say its great at not trying to be what its not. Lets face it, its a 2.1 channel soundbar. I see so many products that use all these spacial effects, or simulated surround and all these weird digital effects that end up making the audio sound weird. This does have a 3D effect, but for the most part its just a straight up sound bar with hot a lot of unnecessary fluff like that. ...and its sounds amazing because of that! NO matter what I put through it, music, movies, sports, TV...it all sounded amazing. Nice balance of high, mid and lows. The sub put out a nice rich low end. I couldn't be more pleased with the sound for a bar at this price point.
One other cool feature is that it has alexa built into it too! So
if you dont have a smart speaker in your homer or anything like that, your soundbar can now perform all of those features as well. I found it worked great and easily picked up my voice even if I had sound coming out of the soundbar.
Overall I would highly recommend checking this out if you're in the market for a soundbar. I have had quite a few over the years, and this one is by far the best at this price point.
The only small thing I wish it had was some kind of a display on the front for setting the volume and things so you know roughly where you are at on the loudness levels. There are lights on the top that show you kind of where you are at, but they are hard to see unless you are standing.

Great looking unit but the good ends there. Setup was kind of a hassle. Very limited setup instructions with virtually no troubleshooting information. Have to download the app and then connect to the soundbar and your wifi network. Took a couple tries but eventually worked. The subwoofer did connect to the soundbar but could never get any sound out of the subwoofer. Rebooted multiple times, finally got Yamaha support on web chat but was never able to get the sub working. Returned it to Best Buy where a helpful associate gave me some advice on soundbars. Ended up with a Samsung A650. Way better device and was on sale for the same price as the Yamaha. Setup was a breeze and it sounds great!

I’ve got to be honest. It sucks. I looked for about a week. Watched and read hundreds of reviews. This was the best of the best for this price range. My tv sounds better. I have a $3000 Sony tv so maybe it has a great speaker system already. Idk. Was expecting more because of the rave reviews. To me does not sound like surround sound at all. I’ve had actual surround sound systems. This sounds like exactly what it is a bar and sub. The sub is ehh ok. I mean idk was just expecting more. We keep it on the tv speakers for everything really. I’d spend another hundred and get a real surround sound. I just didn’t want to run wires through the walls.
