Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the excellent sound quality and ease of use of the 200W 2.0-Ch. Stereo Receiver. Many also appreciate its powerful output and reasonable price. However, some customers point out the lack of a phono preamp and less-than-ideal speaker wire connection terminals as drawbacks. The receiver's design and setup process also receive positive feedback.

Very nice and crisp sound. With quality speakers you can crank up the volume almost all the way with no distortion. It took me just few minuits to set it up.

I replaced an older receiver because it died. It was over 20 years old., I found that the regular hook ups were simple enough but it didn't have a place for my record turntable. I tried all lines. Someone said I may need a separate amplifier. That isn't acceptable. Not everybody throws their vinyl records away.

This unit seems to be perfect for the home garage. I would not use it for home theater purposes.

OK but not great, easy set up for 2 channel stereo output, but audio quality is marginal.

Great amp if you are looking to support the a multi room setup. Would not recommend as a main amp; sound is a little thin.

A quality product for the money

This was our fourth Yamaha receiver over the past 27 years, from entry level to home theater. The sound quality belies its relatively low price. As soon as I hooked it to my ADS LS 400s, I could sense a detail in the musical reproduction, with no diminishing of that as the volume increased. Controls are simple. Yamaha evidently chose to put the money into the amplifier section and tuner instead of needless other complicated features. I wouldn't hesitate to place this tastefully designed product in my living room system. Highly recommended.

    simple stereo

I wanted a simple stereo unit to connect to my tv and listen to radio and cds. Was on the fence between this and the sony of the same price Went to best buy to check out the sony because it was on sale for $130 according to web site. While there, I discovered the Yamaha was also on sale for $120 so I bought it after reading mostly positive reviews. I was a little hesitant after hooking it up to a pair of polk t-15s and remembered some reviews saying it had no bass. But then I thought, "Isn't that the job of the speakers?" Went down to a storage closet in the basement and dug out an old pair of kenwood lsk-400ds that my wife had before we were married (at least 30 years old) and hooked these up with the polks. Sounds great! I really like the simple design and straightforward remote. Doesn't have a lot of features that won't be used anyway. The volume goes to 100 and I cranked it up to 85 which is much higher than I will ever use for practical purposes and noticed no distortion whatsoever. Plenty of bass coming out of those old kenwoods. I might add that I have a 5.1 system with a pioneer receiver with klipsch and polk speakers in my basement family room so I know what higher end systems sound like. This is not a high end receiver. That said, this receiver is much more than I expected for the price. Even at full price, you can't go wrong buying this unit.

Purchased this unit to power 6 in ceiling speakers. This unit did the job and had plenty of power to get the place rockin. I have purchased many high end Yamaha receivers over the years and this one for its value and what I needed it for was perfect. This wouldn't replace one for my home theater but for a smaller room or whole house audio its perfect.

With a set of high quality floor speakers or add a set of high quality bookshelf speakers, this Yamaha 200 watt 2.0 channel high quality receiver for the low budget price, gives you superior deep bass, mid and high range concert natural clarity sounds. This receiver unit is in my living room that receives from Dish Network for amplified surround sound while watching HDTV. Also this receiver is connected from the XM satellite home dock, CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray. Always match the right wattage and best speakers with your receiver. Also the remote control has all the easy to use receiver functions in hand.

i have owned many receivers in my lifetime. i was excited to leave this review for folks who can't afford high end audio gear. this easy 2 channel receiver has just what you need if you are looking for quality product. very easy to hook up and plenty of outputs for other electronics. there is NO phono output for a turntable, but the R-S300 has one. i only use the line 1 output connected to my audio out on my tv to here my tv / blu ray player & cd music through my speakers. i'm no expert but i do have years of buying mid level audio gear, and this yamaha R-s201 is simple quality unit thats worth a look at.
