Piano black finish looks great. The sound quality is good despite its small size.

With this being a Yamaha product, I expected so much more. It is horribly underpowered and the sound is tiny and flat. When listening to iTunes on my PC, I have the iTunes equalizer pre-amp set at 2 full levels higher than average with a DFX Audio Enhancer program just to get mediocre sound. The mid/low speaker is doing double duty and the vocals suffer for it. When watching cable and Blue-Ray through the optical input from my flat screen television, the volume is at 35 and is alright till you consider that it's being used in a medium sized bedroom. The only thing impressive about this system is that there is virtually no vibration coming from the speakers at high volume. If you are looking for a system to play music with vocals that you care about, I highly suggest you get a system with far more power and 3 way speakers. I could have gotten a similar priced Sony system with far better sound.

Since this is a mini-system I didn't expect it to shake the rafters. However, this system has absolutely no power for even moderate volume. The read-out shows the volume going from 1 (lowest) to 59 (highest). To get any type of reasonable sound level requires a setting of at least 40. For example, playing a well-recorded Diana Krall CD, requires a 45 volume setting. And I'm in a 14' x 13' room. Additionally the speaker drivers are extremely low quality and leave lots to be desired. The tweeter scratches and strains and the mid/bass woofer seems to be gasping for air at any type of reasonable volume. I would hate to hear just the speakers if they were run by an amp with more power. The unit is advertised at 32 wpc, but I suspect this is a laboratory bench reading under ideal conditions. It's surely less than this for the end-user. The unit does have lots of internet connectivity and radio features. But these are useless if you can't get any type of decent sound. It looks like Yamaha put their money into the digital stuff and not the audio parts. I didn't even think about adding a sub-woofer--Why through good money after bad. I've had good experiences with previous Yamaha electronics, but I can't recommend this unit.
