I previously owned the $7,500 Denon AVP-A1HDCI Pre-pro (bought it brand new). I also own the $5,500 Denon AVR-5308Ci (also bought brand new). I've auditioned other pre-pros from Anthem, McIntosh, Marantz, Emotiva. And yet this Yamaha CX-A5100 astonished the heck out of me! I think it just may be the best Pre-pro I've used. And it's not because of YPAO or DSP. I don't use any of those things. Just straight THROUGH MODE and absolutely no YPAO of any kind. I think YPAO actually sucks. But I hate all room EQ and DSP. Just give me Direct Mode. The Center dialogue may be the best I've heard. Everything else sounds as good as my Denon AVP-A1HDCI, but the CX-A5100 Center Dialogue takes home the price. Yamaha knows how to do Center Channel. The Remote app for iOs and Android is also the best I've seen. Better than Denon.

The first thing I noticed when opening this product is the build quality. Heavy duty and well built with quality components. The pre-amp provides a clear and detailed listening experience. The YPAO room correction/set up works well at setting the appropriate levels, but set most of the speakers to large. So I manually adjusted them to small to set the crossover at 80hz. Other than that this has been a great pre-amp. Plus it passes through hdr content and dolby vision.

Phenomenal receiver. The sound processing is flawless. Full 4K pass thru and plays all of the newest sound encodings out there. A true audiophile receiver!

This Pre-Pro does everything I could hope for. It has all the advantages of a receiver, but I don't have to power the internal amplifiers.

I couldn't be happier with the performance of this preamp. It's everything that it's advertised to be. A major setup from my previous receiver. My home theater gear never sounded better. The internet radio and the all of the other features work flawlessly. A very well built piece of equipment.

I really liked this preamp only gave it 4 starts though because I felt the marantz 8802a was a much better processor I mean it comes at a heftier price tag but overall it's a good preamp if you buy it you won't be disappointed

This is an awesome receiver it's the best that yamaha has to offer! This is only a receiver which means you have to use separate amps to run speakers. I have this set up with two sherbourn amps and soon to be two emotiva mono blocks. I was surprised that this high end unit did not include built in WiFi and Bluetooth. That's the only downfall. But I have it wired to my lan. I am buying the Bluetooth adapter from yamaha. The music out of this item sounds amazing.
