Bought this as a replacement for a old Sony stereo receiver. The sound quality was not as good as the old receiver. I ended up returning it.

I picked this receiver over the other 2 channel receivers. For a few reasons. First for the power rating. Second for simple design. Third it's Bluetooth capability! Also Yamaha has been in the business for quite some time. Received this Receiver today. Hooked up my Polk RT-6 speakers to it. I'm using both A,B speaker selection since these speakers are Bi wired. Set up was easy. I also set up the Bluetooth connection which was easy. I tried the connection the way the instructions recommended. Which did not work for me. I ended up letting my cell phone accept the receiver instead of the other way around. Upon completion of set up. I can see and hear that I'm going to be very happy with this purchase. There is plenty of power for these speakers. The ease of use is also good. Yamaha thank you for a nice simple receiver that works well. I totally recommend this product. The only reason I gave this a 4 star rating is I feel there should be a 110V receptacle in back of the receiver for other component's. Other wise this is a 5 star unit.

I've been trying to get help from Best Buy in Ft. Myers where I've purchased it. Was on hold for 45 minutes waiting on Home Theater Mgr, he was addressing another issue. They took my name $ number, still haven't heard anything. Geeksquad wouldn't/couldn't help me. They said I should call Yamaha (you kidding me). I'm hoping that Best Buy is going to stand by the product.

I have had to buy 2 of these units. 1st one didn't work. I returned it and got a replacement, it lasted 2 days and just stopped working. I plan on returning it. I'm very unhappy with this product. if I hadn't bought the $25 warranty I would be screwed.

You need speakers! I guess the joke was on me. A few years ago I purchased something simular and the speakers were built in. The return policy states that I have to pay fees for returning. Uugh.

This unit was DOA! I went with the corresponding. Sony unit. The Sony product was much better in everyway. They matched up nicely with the Polk S-15 bookshelf speakers. This was a value at $220 + tax, for both!

This is the worst sounding receiver I ever heard. It sounds like a loud television. No bass no highs. And its not 100 watts. More like 15 watts of distorted noise.

    THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!

    Posted .

Think outside the box! Why did I open with that statement? Because, many folks overlook the possibilities this amp can deliver. Obviously it can be used as an Audiophile pure receiver. It's that good! Just read Steve Guttenberg's review and Steve's rarely wrong. Now, as I said, "think outside the box." By that I mean this for example: I have a Yamaha RX-V467 AVR which is a 5.1 surround sound audio video receiver with the "capability" to be a 7.1 surround sound receiver. The catch is this... it doesn't provide power amps to power speakers 6 & 7 if you wanna use it's 7.1 capabilities so you gotta use the provided pre-out connection and send it out to an external amp to power 6 & 7. This brings us to the Yamaha - 200W 2-Ch. Stereo Receiver. Using the Yamaha 2 ch. receiver to drive the surround channels 6 & 7 transforms my Yamaha RX-V467 into a full, 7.1 channel surround sound AVR. Believe me, it made a HUGE difference once my system was transformed from 5.1 to 7.1 surround sound! Night & Day difference. So, thinking outside the box allowed me to take "full" advantage of my RX-V467 rather than buying a new 7.1 receiver. Anybody whose evere stepped up to 7.1 from 5.1 knows what I mean when I say the step up is a major upgrade in sound. Get this? This Yamaha 2 ch receiver has A/B switching too. That means you can power 2 sets of different speakers (for a total of 4 speakers at once). Example: 1. A = powering the surround speakers 6 & 7 in my setup. 2. B = powering a 2nd set of music only speakers for a 2.0 setup in the front separate from the "2" surround speakers in the rear. 3. A/B combined can now be used to expand the 2 surround speakers 6 & 7 into speakers 8 & 9 transforming your system into a 9.1 surround system, if your room is large enough for a 9.1 setup. So there ya' have it! For under $150, I just turned my 5.1 surround system into a legit 9.1 surround sound setup using this $150 Yamaha - 200W 2-Ch. Stereo Receiver In closing, I just proved how this amp can serve as more than just a "great stereo receiver" just by "THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX." ~ peace PS: Did I forget to mention how this Yamaha 2 channel receiver delivers true "Audiophile Grade" Hi-Fi stereo sound? Ok, my bad, here goes, "This Yamaha 200 watt 2 ch Stereo Receiver is likely the best, plain vanilla, 2 channel receiver period for under $300. Well, there it is!
