I am a fan of the Chinese Martial Arts Genre and this movie does not disappoint. That said the only regret is that they didn't offer an English dubbed audio track like the first movie did . You still understand what is going on ( if you can read the subtitles fast enough) but if you need to catch the action before trying to read the dialog (like me) then you can always pause and read.

Detective Dee is back in an all new prequel directed by legendary director Tsui Hark. It's an action packed epic, that has everything the original film offered and more. The films only weak point, is obviously the absence of Andy Lau. But then again, this is a prequel so Dee is much younger here. Other than that small grip, fans of the orignal film are sure to find plenty more to cheer about here.

Enjoyed every fight scene. The lead character is written very well. An English voice over would have enhanced the experience even more.

I like series like this, where there is more going on then the normal who done it. I like the first one, which motivated me to buy the second one and hopefully the next one.

This movie is awesome. The story is engaging and the characters are intelligent. There are some very cool hand-to-hand fight scenes, as well as an insane warship disaster sequence. The monster is also very different from what you might expect. Outstanding set designs and colorful visuals round out this crowd-pleasing blockbuster.

Enjoyable film. Good characters and scenery. Plot was good and acting good.

I found it to be entertaining, and it actually had some common sense points in it as well.

The adventure and effects are great. I love that it is an Asian Sherlock Holmes story. I enjoyed it enough that I found and purchased the first story about the Young Detective Dee.

The movie was amazing. It was a spectacular cinematic adventure. You easily get over having to read the subtitles.

Movie was ok. I would rent it but I would not buy this movie.

I thought movie would have been in English and the start of a series that would be good for kids like the Percy Jackson ones. It's not and my kids don't like reading the subtitles. My fault, I should have checked the boa better it clearly states Mandarin as the language.

Decent movie but no English audio option. Impulse buy assumed we are in America that there would be an English version. Wasted $12.99.

In previous film, Detective Dee is caught in unreal circumstances but the film manage to present solutions in a realistic fashion. In this follow up prequel, the scenarios are even more unreal but sadly, it stays that way, there is no real explanation for some of the events plus the story, writing, and action scenes in general are not as good. This is an inferior film in every way, imo. Would recommend skipping, or renting this one first.

If you like any martial arts movies then you will like this. The detective Dee character is very entertaining. This has a good story and appeals to a large audience.
