If you have never seen the movie, it is in B&W. It's considered a comedy horror, particularly a parody of the various versions of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. An epic cast - Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr, Madeline Kahn, and Gene Hackman among many others, directed by Mel Brooks. One of Wilder's most successful films. In 2003, it was deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" by the United States National Film Preservation Board, and selected for preservation in the Library of Congress National Film Registry. It's a Blu-ray, which I didn't realize when I purchased it, and all I have is an ~15 year old DVD player, so now it's time to upgrade to a Blu-ray player. A very good excuse to do so.

I saw this movie on opening day at the Coronet Theatre on East 57th Street, New York City in December 1974. Mel Brooks, cast and crew are thoroughly deserving of the many accolades over the years. Pure Genius! Rendered in Black-and-White as the original "Frankenstein" (1931) and using the original laboratory set equipment, Brooks recreated a wonderful playground set for his zany, inspired cast. The Blu-Ray's 40th Anniversary added features and interviews are a tremendous value. Most enjoyable and informative for this film buff. So many wonderful memories and laughs from the performances of Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr, Gene Wilder, Cloris Leachman and even, Gene Hackman showing his comedy chops. Do not miss this!

One of the funniest movies ever. A true classic in both comedy and horror. A great cast combined with a dark, 30's era horror background make this movie not only funny, but interesting to look at as well. When you combine the talents of Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr and Peter Boyle with guest appearances by Gene Hackman and Cloris Leachman, it's almost impossible to go wrong. Add in Mel Brooks and everything just falls into place. To see it in the crystal clarity of Blu-Ray is a real treat. If you've never experienced this movie, do yourself a favor, and take the time to watch it. You'll be glad you did.

The movie is fantastic. It brings back so many great memories from my childhood. The steel case is a nice quality. Very sturdy. My only complaint is that the middle round part with the teeth that clasp and hold the DVDs in, work too well. I really felt like I was going to snap the disc trying to get it to release. And I have had many DVDs in my life. Some are more difficult to get out, yes. But this was truly the worst. So now, they just sit in the case, unsnapped in and able to roll around in there. Though, the case is really never moved, so it's not a huge deal to me. Otherwise, all around perfect!

Gene Wilder plays the inheriting relative of the original Dr. Frankenstein and moves into his castle where the first Monster was created. The comedy unfolds into a hilarious adventure with great slapstick and brilliant writing. An all star cast Gene Wilder, Cloris Leachman, Peter Boyle, Gene Hackman, Kenneth Mars in this Mel Brooks production. Deliberately filmed in black and white and looks great on this new Blu Ray remastering. A must own for any comedy lover. An oldie but a goodie. It never gets old and the jokes get funnier with each viewing. One of my all time favorites.

It's a toss up between Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein for my favorite Mel Brooks film. As I didn't really need the Mel Brooks boxed set, this is the most recent release of Young Frankenstein. I'm not sure if I had the last one (or the one before that), so I couldn't tell you what's new. Like Spaceballs, it seems like a new version comes out every other year with one or two new bells and whistles. I bought this one because I inexplicably found myself without a copy of a movie that makes me laugh every single time I watch it. That's good enough for me!

The humor can be a bit dated but is still a classic. The amazing thing is how it was written utilizing almost direct sequences from the old Universal Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein movies. I never realized this when I originally saw this movie and gained an extra appreciation for it when I jarred my memories and re-watched the original Universal movies as an adult. It fades in with the haunting melody utilized throughout the Brook's film and the use of Marty Feldman and Gene Wilder's abilities makes this a must see movie for all.

TWO thumbs up...as Siskel would say...This is one of our all time favorite movies. Funny script all the way through the movie. We had to get a new one because for some reason the old dvd disk (still nice) wouldn't play in the blueray player anymore. Young Frankenstein [40th Anniversary] [Blu-ray] [1974] is one of those movies you recite the lines just for fun at appropriate times. Best Buy shipped it to my house in about 3 days.

Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, and the ever present assistant Teri Garrare the support for Wilder. How can you miss they out act each other and Gene Hackman takes it to a level beyond ridiculous. Teri Garr signed my Mr. Mom DVD and said"toobad"Young Frankenstien was the best. But it wasn^t filmed in color Teri just smiled. Its a Halloween movie for the ages. Directed by Mel Brooks its a lot corny and the humor is clean so kids can laugh with you.

Young Frankenstein, while poking a tremendous amount of fun at the original films of the 30s, somehow maintains an aura of genuineness and respectfulness throughout. Taking something so solemn and well-known and turning it upside down is an exercise that would typically end in failure but Young Frankenstein defies the odds and then some. I guess it's considered a classic for a reason, eh?

This probably is one of the best movies from Mel Brooks right up there with Blazing Saddles. I liked this movie as it was made in black and white which holds to old horror movies I watched growing up in the 50 and 60's. I like the extras that came on the Disc which is a plus for me. This movie was on sale at Halloween at a good price 9.99 for a blu ray disc. This is a classic with the wit of a legend Gene Wilder. Enjoy!

Fantastic movie as expected considering it’s by Mel Brooks. Gene wilder is wonderful as it is Terri Garr. This was the first time I ever saw Peter boil in anything and to this day anytime I see a rerun of everybody loves Raymond I can’t help but think of him as Frankenstein’s monster. A true masterpiece.

A classic of, not just Mel Brooks & Gene Wilder's comedic careers, comedy's history. A standard for comedic parodies. If you love the story of Frankenstein, haven't seen this movie and you're looking for a fresh take on the story, then this it. This DVD is an affordable, simple means to enjoy the movie many times over, when streaming sources doesn't have it available. Highly recommended.
