The image quality on this quad is outstanding. The gimbal is more effective than the Phantom, producing a really stable video, even in wind. That being said, there are better options available. The battery life is really poor. It says 25 minutes, but I haven’t been able to get more than 12 minutes, even in calm conditions. Between that and the size of it that makes it cumbersome to carry around or travel with, compared to some of the other quads that we own, this one will be the one we use the least.

Originally having purchased a Phantom Pro 3, I'll admit I was a little envious of what "extras" the Q500 4k included in the box. Things that would have bumped the Phantom Pro's cost to almost double it list price of $1,259. Having made the decision to exchange a defective phantom for the q500 4k since the store I was at didn't have the Phantom Pro in stock, I didn't feel like I was going to be missing out on much, especially since I was getting $200 back!! Well there's no such thing as a free lunch. After watching the videos that are included on the memory card and while waiting for the batteries to charge up, I figured I'd setup the steady grip accessory to at least get a feel for the optical quality and stabilization capabilities of the gimbal and camera.. That's when my impression of this product took a nose dive. The steady grip requires 8 FRESH AA batteries ( they must be rechargeable, can't use alkaline) Why with all of the extras included did Yuneec think it would be acceptable to not include a battery pack for the steady grip!?? Oh well moving on, I have to search for one of the many small adapter cables they include to plug in the gimbal to the grip. Then I have to balance the grip and camera carefully to engage the slide lock to complete the connection to the grip. I notice that some of the rubber on the grip isn't glued down and actually started peeling away from the grip. Okay, I guess I could glue it down later. I power up the camera after having downloaded the cgo3 app for iOS which was a task in itself- As of writing this there are several apps, two of which are named cgo3 and developed by Yuneec. Both rated 2 stars in the app store. Both are terribly glitchy. I am directed to connect my phone to the cgo3's WiFi network. It says the password is on the top of the gimbal (it's not) so I enter 1234567890 and it connected after about 1 1/2 min. I'm inside and its night time. The in room light was not sufficient for anything but the stability seemed decent. I messed with the settings and couldnt get a decent image. Okay, I'll test it outside in the morning. The app and camera crashed more consistently than being able to connect to the cameras WiFi network. I'm almost laughing at this point. I unplug the camera from the grip, and in doing so, the cameras filter holder popped of wildly exposing the cameras internals and sending the filter cover off to the floor. Okay. This. Is. A. Joke. I haven't seen such poor attention to detail and quality control in my life!! I was left with the feeling that this product was rushed out before actually being ready. I watched some videos online to see if maybe I was at fault for any of the complications I was experiencing all to find that there are more of videos telling you how to fix or mod things as opposed to how to get it to function out of the box. So when it came time to fly, I figured I'd do a pre flight test without the props on the bird. I booted up the remote control, It connected 20x faster than the grip, but the image quality of the remotes built in screen suffered from cheapdisplayitus.. Can this get worse??? Yes. The lag or latency of the "HD down link" was a joke. I was not going to attempt flight with that kind of lag. In contrast DJI's system was high def and no lag thanks to their light bridge tech built into the remote.. So I tried to pack the typhoon as best I could to send it back.. Totally would have kept it for $500. If you're in the market for a quadcopter between $1000 and $1500.. Do yourself a favor and just get the phantom pro 3. It's a better experience and a better product. If you really need a steady grip, invest in the DJI OSMO.. It works like it should. It's going to take a lot more than extra features and included accessories to restore my faith in Yuneec.

This is a great drone for those who want to get a feel for one before graduating up to the Phantom series drones. The pictures are clear, and the drone is pretty easy to fly.

Pro: easy to use even for a beginner like me. Easy to set Up, very stable. I like the extra blades. Cons: battery doesn’t last 25 minutes, and it should come with the hard case, not the cardboard case. Do your research before making this investment. Go to youtube and learn about your investment. I'm delighted with this drone.

This is a great Drone for people starting out. Make sure you read the instructions. This is not a toy. It is a tool; a camera platform. Make sure you look at replacent parts. I found that this one has cheaper parts to replace and fix in the case of an unplanned landing.

This is my first drone, my uncle has it and he highly recommended it, the only issue is that it didn't come with the hard case that I saw on all pictures online. But this drone flys awesome, I've had it for over a month now and fly it almost every day, flys great in windy conditions, I fly it day or night, very good. Another flaw is that the wifi camera connection cuts off at around 500 feet away and more, but I like it very much and recommend it.

I have never touched a drone in my life but wanted ease of use and a good camera. The Typhoon provided both. Flying is a piece of cake and I love the video. I will buy another drone soon that requires more skill set but this is great for the beginner.

Great 4K Video... a few quirks

I've purchased two drones in the last 7 months, the DJI Phantom 3 Standard and this one. While this will not be a comprehensive comparison between the two (plenty of those can be found online), I will say that I have found myself liking the Typhoon 4K more and more. While the flight controls are not as responsive and zippy as the Phantom 3, for casual aerial photography and videography, the Typhoon does quite well. I was well aware that the P3 Standard only has 2.7K video when compared to the Typhoon, but I did not have a reference point for how much of a difference that makes. Main quirk I have is that the camera on the Typhoon will sometimes be askew. The only way to resolve is to land, power down and then power back up. I've seen reports of this from other Typhoon users. Hoping there will eventually be a firmware fix as others have reported that even after their camera is replaced, the replacement can exhibit the same behavior. Happens about 1x every 10 flights but still annoying just the same.

I was a little skeptical about spending the money on a drone but I can say this it is well worth the money. Easy to learn how to fly and hours of fun. Batteries only last 20 to 25 minutes so good to have spares. You will not be disappointed with the purchase.

This thing is amazing! Ready to fly out the box and the removable camera to handheld gimbal is fantastic! Hopefully more modes will be available soon, but very happy with it! Perfect for learning how to operate and handle a drone before buying a more expensive one!

I've owned smaller, less expensive drones and could never learn to totally control them so I was a little worried that I would not be able to handle this one and crash it soon as I got it. But it was a lot easier than I thought and the directions on how to get started are very clear and easy to understand. With certain settings it literally flies itself. I am completely satisfied with it
