Why buy a macro?

This is the kit lense that comes with the Nikon D60, which is how I got it. When I first got it I had trouble getting the image quality I wanted, but then figured out that if I keep my camera dial on "M" mode the images come out better than good. I'm not a professional photographer, but I enjoy good photos as much as the next person - and this lense helps me get them. I see a lot of people spend $600, $900 or even more on a macro lense - but I'm able to get shots pretty close to the quality of theirs. I'd say that if you're just starting out in photography - this is one lense you'll want in your equipment.

This lens works the way it is supposed to; i.e., it gives good, sharp images and the VR (vibration reduction) also works, especially when hand-held while zoomed-in an a subject. For the money, it more than does the job.

Bought as a replacement for the original lens that came with my camera. Makes the camera work like new again. Great indoor and close range lens.

Great quality, except for a small high-pitched whining sound when using AF.

I bought this lens as a birthday gift for my wife. She loves the quality of the images it produces. The only draw back is that its not an auto-focus lens, but its still a very good lens for the price. I would recommend this item for any beginner.

I got this lens as a replacement to the kit lens that came with the Nikon 3200 series camera. It has a good zoom to "fisheye" range with no visible distortion.

Great Basic Lense

This lense came bundled with my Nikon D5000. This is a great lense if you are a little tight on the budget. Auto focus and manual focus modes both work well. The VR function is handy for the shots with a slower shutter speed. You can take this lense on a trip with you and can get very decent shots. The problem is that when you get such good resukts with this lense - it makes you want to spend more money to get even better ones to top the results of what you can do with this. Buyer beware - you may get hooked and make photography a vice. Excellent family portraits, landscapes, animals, and plants/flowers. Also recommend the use a mono/tri-pod for slow shutter speeds.

this is a kit lens , I bought canon xsi first but was disappointed with its kit lens though the camera was good I returned the xsi and got the Nikon 3100 . The 18-55 kit lens is excellent with very good picture quality autofocus is fast .The only drawback is the plastic mount but it is a kit lens .

This is an affordable starter lens. It's a necessary lens to purchase with the Nikon body. If you have the extra money to invest, I'd recommend purchasing the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm lens to get close and far range pictures.

I got this lens with my new D60. It's a great lens for portraits and general closer range photography. Works seamlessly with DX series cameras and is super crisp. A must have for first nikon SLR purchase. Auto function is very cool.

I have to switch to manual focus for closeup work. I still think it's a good lense for the money.

I love this lens. It was my first lens besides my kit lens to purchase and it has done very well. Wonderful zoom quality without distortion and it's very easy to get the hang of.
