A Historically Film of the Battle

On the surface of things the English way of war is much to genteel. Their commanding General Lord Chelmsford totally under-estimated the Generalship and tenacity of the Zulu Nation and split-up his forces into three elements and due to time/distance factors they could not reinforce in a timely fashion. The Director took measures to insure that the weapons, uniforms and the tactics of the time were correct, and covered in an historically correct fashion the" march-in" to the chosen ground for the battle to come for the Calvary, Infantry, and Supply Train. Great acting by the entire cast to include 3000 Zulu “extras.”

The video is good, but as is common with older titles not as sharp or consistent as new titles. Likewise the audio has its moments of sub-par clarity. Some of the heavy accented dialog maybe tough going, there are no sub-titles to help out either. However this is a beautifully photographed action movie of British Colonial history. It is a prequel to the 1964 "Zulu". Well worth watching.

One of my favorite history movies. Never under estimate the Zulus. England learned a tough lesson at the battle of Islawander.

To anyone who is a fan of Zulu, this is a great prequel. It is well acted and great cinematography. I love this period in history, when empires fell and native "savages" formed a mighty army. Victorian England was forever doomed to repeat it's history of colonization attempts. This is a must see for any fans of Burt Lancaster or Peter O'Toole. God save the Queen and her mighty colors!

This is a "you are there" type of movie. The acting is excellent and you are engrossed in the action. If you have never seen it, it clearly is a "must have" addition for your collection! It's all that!
