    Synopsis

    Rio
A misfit macaw named Blu (voice of Jesse Eisenberg) heads to Rio de Janeiro, embarks on a magnificent journey, and makes some loyal new friends in this animated adventure for the entire family. Domesticated from the time he was just a hatchling, Blu traded a life in the clouds for a contented existence in Moose Lake with his doting owner, Linda (Leslie Mann). They live under the impression that Blu is the last of his kind, but upon receiving word that a female macaw named Jewel (Anne Hathaway) has been discovered in Rio de Janeiro, Linda and Blu set their sights on South America on a mission to replenish the species. Shortly after their arrival in the Brazilian capitol, however, the two rare birds fall victim to a gang of greedy animal smugglers intent on making a mint by selling Blu and Jewel to the highest bidder. But the headstrong Jewel isn't about to be locked in a cage and put on display, so when the opportunity arises she stages a daring escape with the help of some wisecracking local birds, and takes her new friend Blu along for the ride. With the bumbling birdnappers fast closing in, Blu realizes that his only hope for making a clean getaway and reuniting with Linda is to finally summon the courage he needs to take flight. Rio also features the voices of Tracy Morgan, Jamie Foxx, George Lopez, and will.i.am. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I had to repost my original review from the regular DVD version. For some reason, Best Buy moved my review to the wrong title I purchased. Over all not a bad movie at all. Pretty funny actually. Catching it during release week for 29.99 is a bargain for sure. I don't regret adding it to my collection. To respond to the review below, I disagree that the fault is on Blu Sky or 20th Century . Your tv is a LG after all, not the best of the 3d TVs. In fact they are a tad behind Samsung, Sony and Panasonic. If there is unnatural white along with too much color, obviously the tv isn't calibrated, not up to the task or further adjustments to the settings are needed. I have a 55" 729 Sony Bravia, S580 Sony Blu, STR- DN1010 Sony Amp and PS3 all going thru HDMI cables only. The pic shows beautifully on my setup. Very natural. The only problem the film has is the slight ghosting/ double imaging here and there on some scenes. These 3d movies are replicas from the actual movies. We do not have the theatrical technology so there will be minor issues. In fact all 7 of my 3d movies suffer from the slight ghosting on some scenes. But you have to be looking for it or you wouldn't notice it. If a 3d movies shows horribly thru the whole movie the viewing setup itself is to blame, not the movie. Don't get it confused with a poor 3d production. Remember all movies and tvs are created differently. Different technologies brings different results. All in all this movie is worth the sale price for sure. The plot is okay. Not the best and not he worst.

Movie great 3D not so much

I apologize for bad spelling but i posted from a smartphone and the browser will not let me scroll down to edit the text at the bottom. Either way i would be curious to know if others have problems with the 3D for these two films. So far I k ow that all films I have watched in theatre I cannot watch entirely without removing my glasses prior to Rio and Ice Age at home I have had no problems watching a 2 hour movie. For comparison I have watched thus far on my new 55" LG Cinema 3D Coraline and The Clash of the Titans. Both of which have stunning 3D. Titans was great in theatre but even better at home. This movie I was hoping for the same but unfortunately the 3D version is just too juddery. At this point I know it is not the TV as I bought Ice Age 3D and it does the same, which leads mento believe it is the 20 Century/Blue Sky Studio that is having the problems or just that both of these movies have so much color and a lot of unnatural white that renders the 3D juddery.

Blu is a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, and enjoys a comfortable life with his owner and best friend Linda in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota. Blu and Linda think he's the last of his kind, but when they learn about another macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blu's female counterpart. Not long after they arrive, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped by a group of bungling animal smugglers. Blu escapes, aided by the street smart Jewel and a group of wisecracking and smooth-talking city birds. Now, with his new friends by his side, Blu will have to find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers who are hot on their trail, and return to Linda, the best friend a bird ever had.

I purchased this for the car and to have digital copy for on the go. I opened the movie for the kids right after leaving the store. While the both the DVD and Blu ray disc were inside, the digital voucher was not. So i went back into the store to exchange it, and the only other copy they had in the store was also missing the digital code. They told me there was nothing they could do and to contact the Fox company to get my missing code. Well, it's been a couple weeks now and I cannot get a response from Fox or Best Buy on how to obtain my missing code.

Unless you have an apple account with iTunes, this supposed digital copy where you would expect to get access to Vudu, amazon, flixter, etc., only comes with a digital copy to copy the video to your local PC where you can watch it built into the DVD. Don't get me wrong, the movie is great, but when a disk is advertised to be a digital copy you expect to be able to use it with one of the online companies. I contacted the manufacturer and they stated they could not provide an "online" copy either and that I would have to use the version the DVD provided and manually copy it to my devices.

I didn't give this movie much thought when it first came out then months went by and it went on sale on blu-ray and i watched it all the way through nonstop and i completely enjoyed it it looks great it sounds great and the acting and the story were excellent...the previews for this movie do not do it justice it is much better than the previews lead you to believe. great cast and excellent voiceover work. and it's one of the best looking animated films i have seen in awhile much better than cloudy with a chance of meatballs at least in terms of visual sophistication

Rio is very colorful (literally and figuratively), and a fun movie to watch with the kiddos. Lots of laughs and original humor with some expected punchlines. My only criticism is that the male lead is a bumbling idiot and the woman is the hero in charge. This is typical Hollywood...women are empowered and men are clueless and need us desperately. As a woman, I am weary of this pattern. But on the whole, Rio is one of our family's favorites. Love the visuals and the music as well.
