    Synopsis

    School of Rock
The world's least-employable heavy metal guitarist is entrusted with the minds of upstate New York's best and brightest in this fish-out-of-water comedy. Jack Black plays Dewey Finn, axe-bearer for a fitfully successful bar band determined to win a regional battle-of-the-bands competition. There's only one thing standing in their way: the self-indulgent solos and crowd-diving antics of their "embarrassing" lead guitarist. When his band votes him out in favor of a would-be rock god, Dewey has to make the rent somehow, and after intercepting a call for his substitute-teacher roomie Ned (Mike White), the pot-bellied slacker finds himself in front of a class of elite elementary school students. At a loss for a lesson plan, Dewey takes offense at the pre-teen prodigies' staid musical regimen and makes it his goal to preach them the gospel of The Who, Led Zeppelin, and AC/DC -- with the ulterior motive of getting them to compete against his former band for a cash prize. But no matter how willing his pupils, Dewey runs up against the consternation of the school's stern headmistress Principal Mullins (Joan Cusack), the battle-of-the-bands' promoter (Frank Whaley), and not least, his identity-deprived roomie Ned. ~ Michael Hastings, Rovi

School of Rock is a great movie with perfect Jack Black and an excellent supporting cast, most of them kids. Dewie Finn gets kicked out of his band and must find a way to pay the rent. When he intercepts a phone call for his substitute teacher roommate, Ned, Dewie decides to take the job. At first, he has no idea what to do, but when he discovers the kids in the class are great musicians, he decides to turn them into a band. Along the way, Dewie gets to know them all while also teaching them the history of rock. This is a great movie that surprisingly can be seen by the whole family. Jack Black has never been better, and the kids are amazing. If nothing else, the soundtrack is great with plenty of Led Zeppelin, The Clash, Black Sabbath and so much more. Jack Black is perfectly cast as Dewie Finn, the down on his luck musician who takes a job as a substitute teacher. His eyebrows and facial expressions could not be done by anyone else. Joan Cusack is also very good as Principal Mullins, who tries to keep her school in order. Mike White and Sarah Silverman also star as Ned, Dewie's roommate, and his evil girlfriend. The real stars of this movie are the kids in Dewie's class. They are all incredible performers as well as pretty good actors. With all these things combined, School of Rock is a can't miss movie. For a great movie with hilarious Jack Black, check out School of Rock!

If you go to bluray.com this gets a 4 out of 5 overall rating which is very high. I found it to be a good copy. Crisp audio and video upscaled to 4k from this source from my uhd player and 4k uhd tv. Worth the $5.99 for sure. Cheapest I could find it anywhere, and they had it locally so I didn't have to pay for shipping with both time and money. I service society by rocking.

Very funny performance from Jack Black with admirable support from the children who play the school kids. Jack is very believable as the fake substitute teacher, but you have to suspend reality to believe that somebody could get away with what he does in this flick. If you do that, it's great fun and the musical performances at the end are fantastic. Also enjoyed how Jack paid homage to some great musicians and music from the entire rock era!

I had enjoyed watching this movie sometime in the past when a friend brought it over. Saw it in the bargain bin a short while ago and figured it was worth a couple dollars. The movie was still enjoyable but some of the acting seemed a bit forced plus you have to check your sense of reality at the door because, well, it's Hollywood after all.

This movie would become a cult classic if watching movies as a family became a cult! Jack Black is hysterically funny as a fake teacher and a mediocre musician only to find out that teaching music (and life's lessons) is more than just academia--it requires love and passion--oh yeah and complete hysterics as only Jack Black can deliver:)

School of Rock Somewhat Funny; Too Unrealistic

"School of Rock" was definitely a fun movie to watch and a funny movie to laugh at. As a substitute teacher, I have been told that I resemble Jack Black, but I fail to see the resemblance. Our senses of humor differ, but even more importantly, I could actually and have actually taught many of the subjects that his character Dewey could not address as a substitute. The movie is worth watching at some point.

I'm glad that this is finally readily available on blu-ray - It is a great movie, with a relatively uplifting message and feeling to it. But mostly, it's just a blast! The kids all act pretty well, and getting to hear them rock with Jack Black is terrific! The extras don't really outdo the DVD, but the blu-ray quality was fairly good.
