Different, but strong in its own right

Seeds, the fifth full-length from Brooklyn-based indie rockers TV On The Radio, is a different experience from the band, but it's a worthy addition to their catalog. The band has never been known to rest on its laurels or to put out the same album twice, and this is definitely the case here. The surprising development comes in the accessibility of Seeds. If this album had been released about 5 or 10 years ago, I could see them scoring several hits from the album, as it would have fit in with all of the catchy post-punk that was happening at the time. It's unknown if they will achieve the same attention in the current folky/electronic environment that is the current sound of the Alternative Nations of the world, but I could see this expanding the fanbase of TVOTR. What makes this even more surprising is that this album was written in the aftermath of the passing of founding bassist, Gerard Smith. You can often hear lyrics that represent mourning, but at the same time, looking forward. I'm glad this band decided to keep going, as they have a lot more to offer in the current barren musical landscape. The next album will almost certainly go in another unique direction, and it should be interesting to see what happens next.

New music from TV On the Radio is always eagerly anticipated, but after the tragedy of Gerard Smith's death four years ago, just as "Nine Types of Light" was released, uncertainty clouded the prospect of how his band mates would come back from their loss. After a half dozen listens to "Seeds," now, it is clear that their boundless creativity has not dried up in the least. While it is not often as sonically dynamic as much of their earlier music, the hearfelt, socio-political poetry of Tunde's and Kyp's vocals, and the subtle yet intriguing soundscapes, locate this latest masterpiece as clearly at home in the TVOTR firmament.

Heard the Careful You track on the Spectrum satellite station and went to Best Buy for the album. It comes with some interactive album artwork. Simple but fun. The music is fun too but more complex. The upbeat and pondering Could You kept me hitting repeat. Most songs are lyrically introspective like Test Pilot making us think about who we are. Very enjoyable album rock

After the tragic death of their bass guitarist (cancer), TVOTR hibernated while Dave Sitek did production work for others. Seeds is a welcome return, a worthy successor to Dear Science and Nine Types of Light. The loss means a slight change in the rhythm section is noticeable, but it is still definitely TVOTR. A must for fans of the group.

most of these songs have great pop hooks. I listen thru and don't realize it's my third or fourth listen because they're such great songs I'm actually looking forward to the next. "Winter" and "lazerray" provide a good dose of the guitar driven riffs that were the backbone of "cookie mountain." Excellent album!

TV on the Radio is a fantastic band. I would consider Seeds to be their most straightforward album, which isn't a bad thing. It's grown on me with each listen. While it didn't grab me as hard as previous efforts, it's still a very worthy addition to their catalog. Great musicianship, great vocals.

I'm not sure every TV on the Radio fan will love this album as it presents a different and arguably less cohesive album than previous releases, but I really enjoyed it. For me, it has a very 80's feel and brings a refreshing change to a lot of the generic songs that populate the airwaves.

TVOTR has been a favorite of mine for some time now, and this album hasn't disappointed. It's really a great album! Be sure to check out the artwork and slipcover. Rare to see such elaborate design work on CDs these days.
