For example, dual-band devices may use one 2.4 and one 5 GHz band, while tri-band devices may use one 2.4 and two 5 GHz bands. Multiple bands also provide more flexibility for designating connected devices to specific band use.)
    • Ethernet Standard: 10/100/1000 (Each standard is a variation of the IEEE 802.3 set of computer networking technologies known as Ethernet. New versions evolved to include higher bandwidth, different physical media, and other new and improved features. Standards are often denoted by speeds (in Megabits per second). For example, a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port transmits at 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps).)
    • Number Of Connected Devices: 200
    • Frequency Band: 2.4 GHz, 5.0 GHz, 6.0 GHz (Bands may be grouped into categories such as low- and high-band VHF (Very High Frequency), low- and high-band UHF (Ultra High Frequency), or certain frequency channels (measured in MHz or GHz). • Number of 2.4Ghz Streams: 1 (A router's streams are like lanes on a highway. The more streams a router has, the less traffic congestion. Because the 2.4 GHz band is used to transmit wireless signals to a wide variety of devices, there is often high amounts of traffic on that stream. But with multiple streams, each can be designated to a specific device for optimal performance. For example, if one 2.4 GHz stream is assigned to one device, such as a desktop computer, it leaves the remaining streams open for guest users, devices that use more data, or devices with specific band compatibility.)
    • Number of 5.0Ghz Streams: 1 (A router's streams are like lanes on a highway. The more streams a router has, the less traffic congestion. The 5.0 GHz band provides high speed, short-range data transmission and typically has less traffic than the 2.4 GHz band. With multiple streams, each can be designated to a specific device for optimal performance. For example, if one 5.0 GHz stream is assigned to one device, such as a streaming media player, it leaves the remaining streams open for guest users, devices that need less data, or devices with specific band compatibility.)

Q: Does this new Google Nest Wifi work with the older Google Wifi? For example can I connect the two so my old Google Wifi acts as the wifi extender?

A: Yes, it can. I found myself in the same situation but felt that leaving the old Google Wi-Fi as the main router was defeating one of the greatest benefits the new Nest Wi-Fi solution offers: much better bandwidth if the Nest Wi-Fi Router is used as the main router. To do this, I Reset the old Google Wi-Fi using an option in the old Google Wi-Fi app - which you have to do if you plan on adding the old units into this new environment. I then added the Nest Wi-Fi Router in as my main router using Google Home and named the network exactly the same as my old network - to include the same password. By calling this new network the same as the old and by using the same password, all your devices will immediately connect to the new network - albeit, with new IP addresses. I then set up the Nest Wi-FI Point using Google Home, followed by adding two of the old Google Wi-Fi units. In doing this, I now have the Nest Router as my high-performance router (much faster than the old one), and a total of 4 devices, i.e. Nest Router, Nest Point, and two of the three Google Wi-Fi units. I didn't need the third so I'm keeping it aside in case one breaks. Still, you can add the new Nest devices into your old network configuration if you want but will miss out on the benefits the new Nest offers.

Q: Will this work with my AT&T U-verse NVG599 gateway?

A: Yes, Google Nest WiFi can work with your system. But NVG599 is a modem/router combo and you would need to put it in bridge mode or disable its Wi-Fi functionality in order to set up Nest WiFi as your primary router and create a mesh Wi-Fi system throughout your home.

Q: I have a Netgear wifi router that connected to modem, so if i connect this "google - Nest wifi router with 2 points" to Netgear wifi router but not directly to modem, Will this work ?

A: I would get rid of the Netgear router and just use the mesh system. I would hook the modem up to the nest Wifi router then place the points appropriately throughout the house.

Q: How does it work? We have Spectrum WiFi now and want to switch to Google Nest. Is it as simple as purchasing the 2pack plugging it in and we have WiFi?? Or do we need something more?

A: Yes and no. If your modem is easily accessible, has an empty port AND a close by electrical outlet and there is an outlet where you want to locate the hub - you could be up and running in 10 - 15 minutes. It took me about 30 minutes as I needed a ladder, had reroute a long extension cord to reach an almost inaccessible outlet for the main orb, and find an asthetically suitable location with an outlet for the second. Our than that it is super easy. Plug in the network cable and power, load an app on your phone, name the new network and password, answer some simple questions, push a button and wait a few minutes and you're up and running. Our house is over 3300 square feet, two stories and the property is long. We now have very strong wifi throughout the house and property. Works very well for us.

Q: does this cover a 2 story 5000 sq home?

A: Yes, I have over 5000 sq ft, 3 level home. The router is located on the upper third level floor, one point on the first and second level ; The 1st level floor is 12 ft cement block walls and wifi is great on all three levels.

Q: Can I have the AC1200 work with the AC2200?

A: Yes, AC2200 is Nest WiFi router while the AC1200 is Nest WiFi point. You can connect them to each other wirelessly to create a mesh network.

Far too EASY too use! Yes, too easy!

First off I love my Google Nest items and thought this would be the perfect companion. So first the PROs of the device. Just plug it in. That is it. Just plug it in and you are done. Setup is that easy. Now for the CONs: You have NO control. The unit won't let you change WiFi channels. It simply selects the one it thinks is best for you and does the rest. There is no web page to log into to over ride default settings. It just does the WiFi part for you. You may still have to configure your router. And of course mine opted for Channel 1 and there is no way to change that. The good news is that this thing is POWERFUL!!!! It kicked my neighbors who were using the default of channel 1 clean off. Not only did it kick my neighbors off channel one, it kicked off many of the distant ones as well. Now I am the only one on channel 1 and everyone else is using other channels. So why would I only give it three stars? Well I am a tech guy and I like having the control to put it where I want it and not have it treat me as if I am a newb. That said I have no complaints about the WiFi aspects of it. Google needs to work on the Assistant. It's still not ready for prime time but neither are Siri or Aleaxa. My biggest beef with all of them is that they won't let you change the Assistants name and the documentation for Google does state that it has a problem with dogs named Boo or Boo Boo. No, our dog's name isn't Boo. It's Blue which seems to be close enough. Get with it Google! Fix the Assistant NOW! Google assistant is pretty nice when you get used to speaking slowly. Too bad these are outdated and I need to blow another $399 to upgrade. Oh and yes they are FAST so not sure I need 6E especially now that WiFi 7 is out.

    Superb Wifi Speeds and Coverage

I've had the Asus Ac 5300 for about 2 years. Great router for gaming, but doesn't cover the 5,000 sq ft that it advertises. Maybe it does, but my walls are insulated with foam and I was hardly getting a bar in my garage area (2900sq) to connect my 2 garage doors to wifi. I made a decision to buy another Asus router to mesh. I bought the AC 2900 and it really changed the game, but now I was about $500-600 invested. The routers didn't look attractive at all since we moved to a newer modern home so I invested in these tiny Google routers and boy are they a game changer. Now I don't worry about updates or any problems what so ever. I am very glad I finally made the move to this new system after many years with Asus. They are worth every penny and more! I highly recommend these to anyone that wants superior wifi coverage and speeds.

Great mesh internet coverage, few setup hiccups

We were looking to extend our gigabit wifi coverage and already owned the previous generation Google Wifi mesh extenders, so I figured upgrading to the Google Nest Wifi made sense as the old version had served us well. These newer ones perform as advertised: stronger coverage over a wider area thanks to the updated hardware in the current units! We upgraded to whole home security cameras, so I wanted to ensure we didn’t see any dropouts or higher battery drain due to poor wireless speed/strength, and so far I’m happy to report they are working out great. A big positive for me was the hardware microphone mute for these units. Honestly I would have preferred being able to buy these without the built-in microphone/voice assistance feature just out of privacy concerns, but being able to disable it manually on the hardware itself and see the LEDs on the bottom of the points change to Orange/Red to show the mic is disabled once you flip the switch is handy. The biggest negative I have for these was that the setup was not flawless, and even required me to reach out to support as it wasn’t anything that could be fixed through standard troubleshooting like power cycling or doing a factory reset and redoing the network setup from scratch. The other issue I had was trying to add my old google wifi units as access points since their documentation notes the old ones could still be used as long as you didn’t try to exceed their recommended “limit” of having no more than 5 access points connected to a single router. After factory resetting the older units and trying to add them to the mesh network, I noticed considerable issues with signal degradation as it seemed like it was actually introducing interference rather than boosting signal coverage in other areas of the house. The new Google Home app that lets you control/monitor your network is pretty good overall as well, aside from returning a lot of “Unnamed Device” names for the hardware found on our network - I don’t recall the old “Google Wifi” app having the same issue. Slight negatives aside, I am still quite pleased with the newer Google Nest Wifi mesh router and access points - the speeds are solid, they transmit fairly well throughout the walls and home in general, and aside from the initial setup hiccups, they’ve been performing flawlessly ever since. Overall, I’d highly recommend the Nest Mesh router/points system and since the rating system doesn’t allow it, I’d note that if possible I’d give this one 4.5 stars out of 5.
