    Synopsis

    The Family
An American ex-Mafia boss and his family are transplanted to France through the Witness Protection Program, but draw the attention of underworld figures who are determined to see them dead in this darkly humorous action comedy starring Robert De Niro, and directed by Luc Besson. Brooklyn kingpin Giovanni Manzoni (De Niro) had it all until the day he became a snitch. Now no matter how many times Agent Stansfield (Tommy Lee Jones) relocates Giovanni and his family, danger is never far behind. When they blow their cover once again, Giovanni, his wife Maggie (Michelle Pfeiffer), and their two kids Warren (John D'Leo) and Belle (Dianna Agron) are shipped off to a sleepy village in France. It seems like the perfect place to escape the long arm of the lawless until the criminally inclined family resorts to their treacherous old ways, once again becoming a blip on the syndicate radar. Now the thugs are moving in, and they mean business. As the Manzonis use their unique set of skills to survive the relentless storm of bullets, bombs, and rockets, the citizens of this peaceful French village suddenly find themselves in the middle of an all-out Mafia war zone. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The Family was produced by the master of American gangster pictures, Martin Scorsese, and written and directed by French Scifi/ Noir director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element / Lucy) . It stars Academy Award winners Robert DeNiro & Tommy Lee Jones along with Michelle Pfeiffer. Dianna Agron of Glee also stars for the younger crowd. After selling out his old gangster comrades to the Feds, Giovanni Manzoni (DeNiro) is relocated to a small French village in Normandy, where he and his family meet and interact with locals resulting in several hilarious over the top scenarios and hijinks. The Family benefits from a strong cast , good chemistry , dry wit and a good combination of comedy, action, drama , and even some romance and terror. A liittle too much violence and profanity for a family flick, it's still a cool little film for fans of the genre, which the director pays loving tirbute.

I've always been a fan of De Niro and Pfeiffer both have played serious and comedy roles to perfection. This is a dark comedy but it is a very funny film with some dramatic elements.Being mobster themed, death and murder are always present, but we get a different persecutive in this film as it follows a mob Rat and his family as they struggle to blend into the witness protection program. It plays like a drama, but then we are reminded often that this is mostly played for laughs. If you like Goodfellas, Married to the Mob or the Analyze This films, you will probably like The Family as much as I did. The Blu Ray looks great.

I would recommend this movie to everyone who is a De Niro fan as well as gangster movies, with comedy as a bonus. I saw this on Netflix for months and finally decided to watch it and loved it so much I had to buy it. Michelle Pfeiffer always a favorite and De Niro is still a badass even at his old age. A family full of psychopaths taking care of their problems on their own without anyone's help. I don't know who's crazier the parents or the kids. Great movie, go watch it!

I love rob Deniro and Michelle is good , too. And even the teenage children are good actors. What really puts it together though, is the music. And the best is that it is so violent and yet there is some humor and sentimentality. When I bought the movie ( because of Deniro of course) I thought it might be silly and a waste of money. I like it enough to watch it 2 more times with friends. Anyway, this is not a sophisticated review yet I hope it speaks to the readers.

This story starts with a displaced family being relocated to another quaint European town. Of course, this a displaced Mafia family being hunted by the"family" they left behind... Under the protection of the FBI, of course. Robert De Niro only wants to help. Michelle Pfeiffer seeks to keep everyone happy (handing out retribution to those who stand in the way. And, the kids just want to grow up - without tuning down the hormones. This is just fun cinema at its best.

Robert Deniro is back at what he does best.Being a bad guy that you hate to love or vice versa.I'm a Deniro fan for many years and though he is ageing he still makes a movie interesting even on a bad day. With a very familiar an interesting cast of actors you really don't see where this movie is taking you until the end.All an all,if you have a rainy day and can't seem to pick what movie to make it a movie night. This one should be on your list.Your top 25 list that is.

Love the conection the cast had they played well off eachother. Love the idea of robertl playing a rat after all his work in mob style movies. Felt like it could be the sequel to casino. His live after it all came down. The best part to me was the kids they step out and let you know they are there as a main stay not just as back drop props. At some points the out shine pop and steal the show. All and all a good film.
