Leonard Maltin wasn't alone when he noticed similarities between Goonies and the 1934 Our Gang comedy Mama's Little Pirate. Adapted by Chris Columbus from a story by Steven Spielberg, the film follows a group of misfit kids (including such second-generation Hollywoodites as Josh Brolin and Sean Astin) as they search for buried treasure in a subterranean cavern. Here they cross the path of lady criminal Mama Fratelli (Anne Ramsey) and her outlaw brood. Fortunately, the kids manage to befriend Fratelli's hideously deformed (but soft-hearted) son (John Matuszak), who comes to their rescue. The Spielberg influence is most pronounced in the film's prologue and epilogue, when the viewer is advised that the film's real villains are a group of "Evil Land Developers." The musical score makes excellent use of Max Steiner's main theme from The Adventures of Don Juan, not to mention contributions by the likes of Richard Marx and Cyndi Lauper.~Hal Erickson
I’m not going to review the movie because you could find that anywhere. This Blu-ray release is awesome! The Steelbook cover is really cool. The film transfer is beautiful and perfectly displays the incredible cinematography and set designs.
This release includes an audio commentary track by director Richard Donner and cast members, a making of featurette, outtake reel, a Cindy Lauper music video and theatrical trailer.
The Goonies arrives on Blu-Ray with this Best Buy exclusive steelbook. The packaging of the steelbook is nice and it has a glossy finish. The front of the steelbook has a skull on it with the title of the movie and the characters carved into the skull. On the back of the steelbook we have the saying from the movie; Goonies Never Say Die. The inside of the steelbook reveals the disc (which has no art on it) and the insert with the information on how to redeem your digital copy. The movie looks and sounds great on blu-ray and the extra features are very cool. If you are a fan of movies and you don't already own it, definitely be sure to add this release to your collection!
Classic Movie to Watch with Children/Grandchildren
Owned for 1 week when reviewed.
This movie came out when I was 25. It is one of Steven Spielberg's movies in which he came up with the story. I have been a big fan of this movie and have owned the VHS, DVD and now the BluRay & Digital HD version. I primarily bought this for the Digital HD copy. The translation to BluRay is good considering the original was shot in 1984-5.
The story line is simple; a small town in Oregon coast is being displaced for construction of a golf resort by the local wealthy family. Some of the kids, who call themselves Goonies (i.e., misfits), follow a treasure map to locate the treasure and save the town. The kids are young stars just starting out and was perfectly cast and acted.
I have watched this movie with my daughter many times and will hopefully watch it with my grandchildren. I'm not a fan of the Steelbooks, but for the price I can't complain. It does have some nice extras (commentary with the cast). So, this is well worth the cost and will make a great present for kids of any age.
This is a review of the Goonies movie on DVD. Quality and packaging was fine. My kids and I have always enjoyed this movie. I was really pleased to receive it. Now we can pop some popcorn and watch it anytime we want. :)
This is still a great movie for the young and the young at heart. I highly recommend it and to add more flavor to the flick, I suggest you watch the 35th cast reunion on YouTube.
Very highly recommend.
Trust me. I know what I'm doin' when I'm reviewin'.
