Following the very impressive "High Tension," Alexandre Aja directs the remake of Wes Craven's "The Hills Have Eyes." Unlike the recent remakes of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Dawn of the Dead," the original "The Hills Have Eyes" actually had room for improvement and its remake wasn't only made to capitalize on the name recognition of the original. The film is about the Carter family and their cross-country vacation that is hindered by a group of mutants. Aja did an excellent job with the remake. The tension is very high -- especially at the end of the film during the scenes in the mutants' town. The Carter family are likable, and it's hard watching them die in front of each other. This film is very violent, and the unrated version includes an extra minute of violence. However, the extra minute doesn't change the tone of the film drastically because it's made up of so many small additions that are barely noticeable. The unrated version is still recommended because the R-rated cut comes on a double-sided DVD and contains widescreen and fullscreen versions of the film. In addition to excising the gore, the R-rated DVD excises some special features as well. The main special feature on the unrated DVD is a 50-minute making-of, which is very informative. There are also two commentaries and a handful of production diaries. Highly recommended.

I love horror. Some of my favorite films of all time are horror films and I'm always eager awaiting a new film to sink my teeth into. The problem is that nothing in today's world of retreads and reboots adds anything new to the genre and it seems like everything has already been done. That's what makes this film produced by the late great Wes Craven so special. Not only is it a remake of the original 1977 film, but it actually surpasses the original in almost every way. This film will keep you on the edge of your seat! Suspenseful, disgusting, horrifying in every way, this is a film that I have seen at least a dozen times and will easily watch a dozen more. They just don't make remakes like this!

    A disgusting gore fest

I didnt enjoy this movie at all. I like a good horror movie but this was just a blood and guts fest. At first this movie seemed like a great film and then it just got worse and worse. After one particular scene in which a women is "assaulted" in a... bedroom manner by a mutant i just walked away and came back later when the movie had around 45 minutes left. If you are into Blood and Guts and cheap attempts at Shock Value this is probably your type of movie. If however you are looking for a True Horror Experiance i would suggest something along the lines of "The Strangers"

My shopping experience at BestBuy was very pleasant... I received my order quicker than the estimated delivery time... This movie was clear in standard dvd but the Blu-Ray version is too real to be true.... You can actually see the details of the special-effects make-up unlike never before... Everything from the audio & video were enchanced to crystal clear clarity... The comparsion scenario is like a Jimi Hendrix song on an 8-track or original cassette tape versus remastered on a enhanced Cd... I highly recommend this movie on Blu-Ray from BestBuy..

This was a great remake, my wife and I loved! Brilliantly directed by Alexandre Aja (High Tension, Mirrors), and a great cast. I love all the remakes we are doing these days, because we can make them with better acting and special effects than the old ones. If you're a fan of the old one, you'll love this one. I highly recommend it! Also, some other good remakes are Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, Black X-mas, and The Hitcher.

This is the only recent horror remake I've seen that I've found has surpassed the original. Wes Craven's film was good but had room for improvement. Aja directs a great horror survival film here. The documentary is lengthy and good. Highly recommended.

This horror film is a classic and absolutely kills and crushes the original upon which it is based. Just simply mesmerizing and horrific from beginning to end. And what an ending...

This is a update of the original. But this one doesn't try to outclass the original it just tries to bring it up to date with technology. So I appreciate the attempt to keep this true to the classic version.
