Synopsis

The Howling Reborn
A high school senior learns he descends from a long line of werewolves, and attempts to choose between embracing his inner-beast and holding on to his humanity as the long-running horror franchise returns. Will Kidman (Landon Liboiron) is your typical teenager; he's got an eye for girls, and lately his gaze has been lingering on a gorgeous classmate (Lindsey Shaw). Meanwhile, an enigmatic woman (Ivana Milicevic) from Will's distant past resurfaces with a shocking revelation: Will's ancestors were lycanthropes, and now he will inherit the secrets of their incredible power. But when Will realizes that embracing his destiny will spell certain death for the girl he loves, he prepares to make a choice that could spell the end of his monstrous bloodline, and incur the wrath of the very creatures that have claimed him as one of their own. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    WHY Hollywood? WHY?!?!

What is it that makes Hollywood want to "reboot" everything now a days? This treatment can have one of two outcomes, either 1) an excellent relaunch of a classic series (i.e. the new Star Trek) or 2) a film that seems to be loosely grasping at a classic or well told original idea and failing to match it. The Howling Reborn is unfortunately in the second category, it fails to match the suspense and thrill of the original and only loosely bases itself in the original Howling "universe", IF I had never seen the original Howling series of movies I may have been less critical of this movie. I would say not worth it.

Not a remake or a reboot

Look, this movie calls it'sef the Howling Reborn not the Howling. It isn't a remake or a reboot because it isn't trying to retell the same story again and the Howling movies aren't exactly tied together. Aside from part 1 & 2, this series has always gone off and done new things with each sequel. Marsupials, anyone? This is kind of like a Twilight movie for people who HATE Twilight. It's surpising how fun it is and keeps you on your toes. It's definitely worth checking out.

The Howling from 1981 has to be one of the best werewolf films ever made. It's sequels, however, have all been sorely lacking. Luckily, The Howling Reborn, while more or less copies Twilight in parts, at least doesn't totally suck. The werewolf effects are at least solid.
