A Classic
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendTHE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER keeps tension and suspense front and center. The plot builds nicely, keeping you guessing as it moves quickly along. The tight writing and strong acting make much of essentially watching a chess game in which players try to guess the others' next moves. Every ounce of Sean Connery's charisma is on display, and a young Alec Baldwin is fun to watch as a nerdy government analyst who's a bit out of his depth. Both are strongly supported by the likes of Sam Neill, Stellan Skarsgård, James Earl Jones, Tim Curry, and more. Although the content is fine for most tweens, it's more likely to be enjoyed by teens who can appreciate tension as a dramatic device. Navy and submarine buffs also will enjoy the depictions of strategizing, navigating, and sonar operations in the cramped confines of both Russian and American subs. It's fun to see what cutting-edge technology was like 30 years ago, and it's also a bit of a history lesson about the tensions of the Cold War, reminding us of how much U.S./Soviet tension was a huge backdrop to life then.

Sean Connery at his finest
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendOne of Sean Connery's better roles outside of Bond. In general though, a thoroughly enjoyable action flick with a star-studded cast. Also, when people ask you what movie you know Tim Curry from, you can lay this one on them. Everyone has at least one movie they can watch over and over and over and never get tired of it. This is one of mine. I love this movie.

Hunt of Limited Edition Steelbooks
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendI'm surprised that this Limited Edition steelbook is still available for sale on Best Buy. It's a great movie that you can watch more than once. I would highly recommend this one to all the Steelbook collectors out there. I noticed that Best Buy usually doesn't say if it's a Limited Edition or not when it comes to steelbooks. As it's a Limited Edition steelbook it's a no brainer. I spent the full price but I noticed it has gone on sale. If you see it at a low price, jump on this one.

A Sean Connery Must Watch
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendIf you love Sean Connery movies, the Tom Clancy novels, or just good movies, this movie is a must-own. The level of detail is amazing and the story is fantastic. The 4k and HDR remaster make the film look superb. Plus, if you collect steelbooks, the images all look amazing. Buy this movie if you are on the fence and I am positive you won't regret it

Good flick
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Sean Connery playing a Russian sub captain with a Scottish accent. I'm poking fun, but it's actually a really good flick.. An old, but great flick.

Best submarine movie!
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendOne of my favorite movies of all time. I never get tired of watching it. It is just so well made. A cinematic masterpiece. An incredible cast and excellent story telling. They just don't make them like this anymore. The feeling of suspense and excitement all perfectly balanced. When I first saw this movie in the theaters I left with a upbeat feeling, and I knew I had to see it again. The camaraderie between the characters on both sides, the relative dialogue was so enjoyable. I was giddy. The transfer. I have been waiting for a long time for a proper treatment for this film, and a 4k version has finally been released. It's slightly on the dark side but the details are there to be admired. The 4k looks more filmic than the 1080 in my opinion. Definitely an improvement. The sound is where it shines. I noticed it right off the bat. The low frequency sounds, especially during the submarine sequences, the engine noises, all stand out. Also, surrounds are detailed and distinct even for a older movie like this. I was satisfied with this buy. Look into it folks, I think you'll like it.

One of the Great Ones!
|Posted .Owned for 3 months when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendWhile it is true Sean Connery can elevate any movie in which he is in, The Hunt for Red October is one of those rare movies that come along every now and then, that just appeals to everyone. The submarine attack scenes were just outstanding. I have purchased this movie so many times and in all the formats. The latest purchase, which was the 4K steelbook, was only eye candy so I could proudly display this iconic movie, as the art design on the steelbook really stands out. If there is anyone left on planet Earth who has not seen this great movie, I'd highly recommend you watch it.

Excellent 4K Presentation
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendThis has been one of my favorite Tom Clancy movies of all time and I was elated when I saw it at Best Buy on 4K. The 4K presentation doesn’t disappoint and it is well worth the purchase if you don’t yet have it - give your Blu-ray to a good friend as you get another with the 4K movie anyways. The steel book case is a nice addition. Although I am not a collector of steel book cases as they just add to the cost of the movies, I didn’t mind getting it with this movie because I enjoy the movie so much. A great Dolby Vision presentation with fantastic Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio!
