Description
Truth is stranger than fiction in this comedy-drama based on the real-life tale of a homeless woman named Miss Shepherd (Maggie Smith), who parks her van in the driveway of a house owned by playwright Alan Bennett (Alex Jennings) and lives there for 15 years. Over the course of her stay, the two form a unique friendship. Jim Broadbent, Dominic Cooper, Samuel Barnett, and Frances de la Tour co-star. This adaptation of the 1999 stage hit was directed by Nicholas Hytner (The History Boys).~Jennifer Lackman
Maggie Smith gives another wonderful performance in this true based movie. Can be a little difficult to watch a person living only in a dirty van because of a mistaken idea. Hard to believe this really happened. There is some humor too.
I found this charming story full of heart and humor. I love the last bits where the owner of the flat was bicycled in for his moment in the sun! Love these tales of heart and soul and humanity
Really enjoyed this film. I love anything Maggie Smith does, and this is no exception. The fact that it is based on a true event only increases the viewing pleasure.
