Synopsis

The Perfect Storm
In October 1991, a dying tropical hurricane from Bermuda collided with a cold front from the Great Lakes, resulting in a "perfect storm" of previously unknown destructive impact that resulted in 100-foot waves; tragically, the crew of a fishing boat was lost in the midst of the fearsome storm. Based on the best-selling book by Sebastian Junger, The Perfect Storm tells the story of the ship's brave and hard-working crew. Billy Tyne (George Clooney), captain of the Andrea Gail, hasn't had much luck finding catch on his most recent trips to sea, and with money short, he and his crew -- Bob Shatford (Mark Wahlberg), Dale Murphy (John C. Reilly), and David Sullivan (William Fichtner) set out again when they hear that the fish are running. Billy's hunch proves correct, but when the ship's refrigeration system goes haywire, they have to return to shore as quickly as possible before the fish spoil, sending them into the middle of the worst storm in history. The supporting cast includes Mary Elziabeth Mastrantonio, Diane Lane, Bob Gunton, and Karen Allen; Wolfgang Petersen, whose breakthrough film was the aquatic wartime drama Das Boot, directed. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Silly but entertaining film on substandard Blu-Ray

Despite its serious subject matter, this is kind of a silly movie. A lot of the dialogue is awful, and people make a lot of laughably irrational decisions, but I suppose that happens in real life as well. Still, there is a lot of entertainment to be had here. Unfortunately, the film's transfer to Blu-Ray leaves much to be desired, with generally soft images and colors that are rarely as vivid as they should be, stopping far short of the format's full potential. The audio, with a realistic and satisfying mix, is more satisfying than the video on this one. Can you tell I'm a bit conflicted? Overall, like many bargain bin back-catalog Blu-Ray titles, this is not a terrible purchase for the low price I paid.

I got a great price on the movie at Best Buy. But I have to say for a Blu ray I was disappointed with the video quality. It was true 1080p but the picture lacked real sharpness. If you like this movie and can get it on sale like I did it's not a bad grab but I would expect to pay between 5 to 7 dollars. On the plus side the audio quality was pretty good for those with home theater setup.

LOVE this movie!!! I bought it previously in a 4-pack and my mom loved it, she couldn't believe she doesn't have it in her own personal collection. So, in an attempt to do some early Christmas shopping, I bought it. And got an excellent deal on it too in their discount bins at the front of the store!!! Excellent, excellent film!!

This film is based on a true story about fisherman that fight the waves to catch fish for the towns seafood supplies how ever some feel like the pay is not worth risking their lives and eventually they will cross path with the biggest storm ever of their career. This movie is intense and sad at the same time.

Truly a great, great movie to see, especially if you're from New England and was in this Perfect Storm of the century. It's an excellent cast of characters, along with the writers, directors, and author who brought the story of the Gloucester fishermen, the town, their livelihood, the storm to the big screen.

This excellent movie has a great plot, superb cast and filming, and exceptional, believable special effects that are really spectacular in blue ray. It faithfully depicts the perils faced by commercial fishermen and women in one of the most dangerous jobs there is.

I picked up this flick on sale... not a bad movie, based on a true story. However, I don't think it was the best written movie, many of the characters came off rather one-dimensional/flat. Effects were pretty good though for this type of flick!

I already owned the movie on DVD. But having the Blu Ray quality with better sound and picture is much better than I expected. If you haven't seen it, you must own this. It's a great heartfelt story and ok for the kids to watch
