Non-Disneyesque
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI first saw this movie with a live performance of the music by the movie’s soundtrack composer and band. I loved the music, and for that alone I would buy the DVD. The animation is done in a retro style reminiscent of the 1940’s. The storyline and movie is difficult to characterize. As some of the professional movie critics have put it, it is bizarre, grotesque, disturbing and funny all at the same time. It has a very Tim Burton movie kind of feel. If you’re a fan of 1940’s jazz or quirky animation, this movie is for you.

A must have for any library!
|Posted .A fantastic animation adventure, told mostly in song and pantomime, It is satisfying, beginning to end, with foibles, unlikely heroes and justice in the end.

2D animation is alive and well
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendChomet's animated feature is a masterpiece, hands down. While 2d animation withers away in the US, we are shown by this extraordinary French team that there is still so much life and relevance in the medium. No need to go into the story details here; rest assured that you will be transfixed with this film's strange tale. The feel of this movie is a special one indeed, magical and mysterious, wonderful and bizarre, with each beautiful hand drawn frame breathing with life and character. Excellent designs and incredibly imaginative visuals abound; you will be missing out if you don't see this movie.
