This TV set my hair on fire

      Posted

I've had the TV for a few days and have been testing as much as possible so I'll try to break it down as quickly as possible. Picture Quality-9 I own a 2016 OLED and although the blacks are better, this PQ makes up for it with color and brightness. If you enjoy sports, have some 4k HDR movies, or binge Netflix this TV has some serious chops. I've rewatched a few movies I like to use for comparisons (Gravity, Mad Max, Logan) and the blacks are fantastic with searing highlights and beautiful color. I can't stress how bright this set can get when watching HDR content. Just blistering and the colors just scream from one spectrum to the next. For uniformity and dirty screen I haven't run into any visible stripes or bands on this set. There is slight banding in the grays, but nothing extreme or out of the ordinary. I did see a lot on my 2016 Vizio P series that I ended up sending back as well as some pink stripes on my OLED, but I was pleasantly surprised when I turned to the NHL network and was presented with not only excellent bright clean whites, but fantastic motion handling. I tried some golf and a lot of football and I'm happy to report this TV will be a gem for anyone who views fast motion content and sports. No trails at all like I saw on my 900F. Can't wait for football season. Quality-7 There's a reason why this TV has the specs it has for the price. I just hope it's cosmetic and not going to cause any reliability issues. The remote is cheap. It works fine, but the whole thing just doesn't feel premium, but I think Vizio is marketing this TV to people who want an excellent panel and will either use their phone or their own universal remote system. I'm in that category so I'm ok with that. The body felt fine. The bezels are thin and on par with other set's in this price range. Maybe 1/2" black strip all the way around, but no visible physical bezels. The HDMI placement on the back is great. I wall mounted and didn't have any issues getting to the ports I needed. Back is made of fairly sturdy soft touch plastic with a lot of ventilation across the top ridge. Legs are chrome which I think is a dumb choice. They felt really light and mount to the ends so that might be an issue for some who don't have a 60" entertainment center. I would wall mount if possible. Gaming-9 Amazing. Low input lag, excellent motion handling, and great color make this a gamers dream. I only wish it had variable refresh rate like the Samsung. I think that would have made this tv competitive with the Big Format Gaming Display that's in development by Nvidia. That TV is expected to cost close to $5000 and will be for PC enthusiasts. For consoles, having tried a Sony 900F and not being wowed like I am with TV, I wouldn't consider anything other than maybe the Samsung Q9FN. But again that TV is $3500. This TV punches above its weight class in so many areas that it really is a product in its own category. For those afraid of burn in from an OLED like what happened with mine, then I'd say this is a very good option. I've since moved the OLED to the bedroom and wanted something brighter for the living room and this did the trick. Sound-5 They're fine if you don't want premium sound, but once you turn the volume up it's like every TV with internal speakers, they distort. If you buy this TV and don't pair it with a sound system you're missing out. Apps-7 I tried them. They're not great. Slow and clunky, but they got the job done. Smartcast using your phone was great. Worked just fine. I think this is going to be the way to go if you absolutely need to use the apps. I'd recommend using a 3rd party device like an AppleTV 4k to get the most out of this TV. If you prefer android try a shield tv. Very capable device and I use mine for gamestream a lot. Overall I'm very happy. It's an amazing panel loaded with features and specs that other manufacturers just can't touch for that price. Vizio placed this TV in a goldilocks zone at a price I think the average consumer can stomach. I think once they start to make their way to the endcaps of big box stores and rtings.com pushes out their review in the next couple weeks this TV will be worth picking up. I'm an early adopter type who loves tech so I took a risk and it paid off. Looks like the search to replace my OLED is finally over.

Great TV for dark and bright room viewing

Just got our Vizio P Quantum and it looks fantastic! The HDR effect from the high peak brightness this set can put out is amazing. Measured 2,240 nits in a 10% window. Really nice to see a manufacturer actually OVER-delivering on their advertised specs for once. Of course, HDR is about more than peak brightness and in a lot of cases high peak luminance also means raised or grey-ish blacks. Not so with the P Quantum. The black levels look fantastic with 192 zones (Xtreme Black set to medium looked best to me). So good that it's actually very hard to tell the difference when shooting out against our 2018 OLED. Sure, OLED is ever so slightly better for really dark scenes with all the lights turned off but, man, it's hard to justify the extra $$$ for that with blacks this good! Even in dim lighting we found black levels to basically be a wash between the two sets. Really pure colors from Quantum Dot technology too. Attached an image of spectrum measured from the TV showing really narrow peaks of red, green and blue. Great separation between colors and no washed out white effect like you sometimes see on bright colors with an OLED. Bonus: awesome viewing angle... From reviews I read, I expected great brightness, color and black levels so the biggest surprise for me is the viewing angle. I've never seen an LCD look this good off-axis! I'm not sure what Vizio are doing differently here but other TV makers should absolutely take note. Bottom line: this was the best TV for us. With the mix of viewing that we do including daytime sports (NFL starts at 10AM here in CA) in bright ambient lighting and evening movie viewing, where black levels are critical, there was nothing better.

*Update to my previous review- Didn't show as Verified Purchaser for some reason* The 2016 P Series made me change my mind about the Vizio Brand. That TV blew me away. So when I heard about an even better Vizio P Quantum coming out I had to try it. I've been using it for a few days now, I've tested and calibrated it. Wow. Best TV I have ever owned. It is NOT perfect though, but worth the price. Positive: +Picture Quality is Excellent +Perfect for bright rooms (what I use it for) +HDR handling is also excellent. (Better than regular P series) +Anything 1080P or higher resolution looks amazing! +Gaming is smooth, works perfectly with Xbox one X in HDR Negatives: -Anything below 1080P looks fuzzy. There are setting to try and clear it up but still noticeable. On par with previous Vizio tv's. -The screen itself is a quarter inch tilted. I mean inside of the frame the TV is not even. It tilts to the left side 0.3 inch. It is only noticeable if you look at it closely. -The built in speakers are terrible. You must get a soundbar. -Some TV Channels in 1080i format cause black dots to appear on the screen (along the edges). I can't determine if this is a problem with the video source or the TV's processing.

      Great TV, but not perfect

My LG OLED 65B6P TV had screen burn. Luckily I had the Geek Squad protection so I had a chance to replace my TV with another LG OLED B8, but I got caught up in the hype of the Vizio P Series Quantum. The Rtings.com review YouTube sold me on the TV. So I got me a P Series Quantum TV to replace the OLED TV that had burn in. I got the TV installed yesterday (Saturday, Sept 15) and I started to play with the settings to activate my HDMI Ports to Full Color UHD. Then I popped in the Avengers Infinity 4k Blu Ray in My Xbox One X and played with the picture settings. The Vizio remote and menu was a challenge to maneuver coming from the LG menu system. The picture settings only had 5 or 6 options with each option providing a full array of settings to get the picture they way you want it. I found the Calibrated mode to offer the best picture w/ a few settings. Once I got it right.... MAN THE PICTURE WAS BEAUTIFUL AND BRIGHT! Great detail and black levels were a notch below my OLED TV. I also got my Xbox games looking awesome. The reason I only gave this TV 4 stars is that I'm experiencing an issue with the ARC HDMI Port intermittently losing connection. The issue occurred 3 times within a 24 hour period. Also, any video 720p or lower doesn't look good due to the TV upscale capabilities suck! Allow the Xbox One X, Apple TV, Roku, etc... to upscale your video content. Overall The Vizio P Series Quantum is a great TV for the price point.

This is without question the best tv I have ever seen, let alone owned. I am coming from a Sony X930E and before that an LG B7A OLED. This is the brightest tv I have ever seen and it isn’t even close. That, with the extreme contrast that the excellent local dimming and black levels provide make this tv my top pick, at any price. Factor in the price of this set on sale and it should be a no brainer. The black levels are the best I have seen from an LCD tv. The only time any amount of blooming is noticeable is when the tv is pushing 2000 nits or more right next to a letterbox bar and the room you are viewing in is completely dark- then there is sometimes some spillover. This set is in a league of its own. Quantum dot color is just the icing on an already fantastic cake. My 2 complaints are: - No cable management for the rear of the tv - SmartCast is lacking some apps I feel like I stole this tv for the price. If I had a golden ticket to walk out with any tv in the store for free, I would pick this one.

      Great TV so far.

I went into this year thinking of getting an OLED set. After reading about rtings torture tests, among others, that resulted in moderate to severe burn-in in OLED panels, I couldn't do it. My use case with a PC/gaming setup this burn-in risk could be a reality.. so I went looking for something comparable. This seems to be a great alternative. With close enough black levels to OLED, and an incredibly bright picture (great for HDR content), this set has treated me very well so far. Also very important to me is the input delay, which is very good in game mode. I mainly use this in a dark basement 'theater' room with the following devices: -XboxOneS mainly for 4k bluray - PC for streaming/gaming @ 4k60 (or 1080p120 for gaming) -all other manner of consoles (Switch/PS4, etc..) I've had no substantial issues as of yet and it has been a great upgrade from my old 2014 Vizio p70". I hope this review helps, and if you have any questions that you are desperate enough to ask on a review.. feel free to do so. Have a nice one. :)

Got my TV mounted and I've yet to find a flaw with it!! I have LED strips around my TV and the TV gets brighter than the lights and I can barely see them at 100% brightness. Picture quality is amazing! 720p content looks fine but anything 1080p/2160p is absolutely stunning! The blacks are so black that it makes me think I have an OLED TV but with amazing brightness and no burn-in worries that come with an OLED panel. Don't buy into the brand hype with sets like Samsung or Sony. The only disappointment with this TV is I wish a larger size was available!
