38 Special - 20th Century: Millennium Collection - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

From 1976 to 1987, first as Al Hudson & the Soul Partners, then One Way (with Alicia Myers going solo), this Detriot group was one of the most successful soul ensembles, creating 31 charting R&B recordings. This compiles, for the first time, all of their best hits 9 from One Way, one from the Partners and 4 by Alicia. From dance classics like InchPop ItInch and InchPushInch to the ballads InchSomething in the PastInch and InchLady You Are,Inch each is digitally remastered for an hour of great sounding old school R&B.

38 Special was formed in 1974 by lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Donnie Van Zant (brother of Ronnie and Johnny Van Zant, both Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Don Barnes in 1974 in Jacksonville, Florida. They are best known for their early 1980-ies hit singles InchHold On LooselyInch and InchCaught Up in YouInch, along with other Top 40 Billboard Hot 100 chart entries in the 1980s and early 1990s, including InchRockin' into the NightInch or InchWild Eyes Southern BoysInch. Their many Gold and Platinum album awards stand in testament to the endurance of a legendary powerhouse. Since 1976, when Lynyrd Skynyrd manager Peter Rudge signed them to A&M Records (their self-titled debut was produced by Edgar Winter's White Trash's Dan Hartman), the band has released more than 15 albums. And is still touring relentlessly, bringing their signature brand of 'muscle and melody' to the fans worldwide.38 Special's InchLive At Rockpalast 1981Inch show (Loreley, August 29, 1981, The Outlaws, Nine Below Zero and Thin Lizzy were in the festival line-up that day as well) was off the rails, an excellent high energy show. Vocals and sound were on point. The band looked like they were having just as much fun as the audience. This show is, indeed, a memento of an exceptional performance of this legendary Southern Rock band in Germany.

Repressing. Digitally remastered reissue of the debut album from the Southern rockers, originally released in 1977. Led by Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant (brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Ronnie), 38 Special's blend of roots and Rock made them favorites in the Southern Rock movement that also included The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Nine tracks including 'Long Time Gone', 'Play A Simple Song' and 'Gypsy Belle'.
