About this product

When 6 String Drag first appeared on the scene in 1993, the Americana scene was still in it's infancy. As one of the earliest alt-country bands of the era-a point in time at which Uncle Tupelo was winding down, Whiskeytown hadn't yet formed, and scene bible No Depression was still a couple of years away from launching-the quartet, headed up by guitarist/vocalist Roby and bassist Rob Keller, played a major role in eventually making the term InchAmericanaInch part of the musical lexicon. Now, with the impending arrival of a new album titled Top of the World, 6 String Drag broadens it's collective purview, incorporating classic British Invasion pop, tough-as-nails '70s rock and punk, and more. The album, due out TKTK, will be available on digital, CD and vinyl. Top of the World contains 11 gems that are both unique in their own right and uniquely 6 String Drag, from pumping opener InchNever Turn My Back on You AgainInch and the pub-rocking, rebels-kinda-with-a-cause InchSmall Town Punks.Inch InchI think some of the songs lean towards influences of certain artists, but not as an overall approach to a whole album. We have always listened to classic bands like the Kinks, Stones, Beatles, Them and Van Morrison, The Band, etc. And there's the whole punk rock and '70s rock thing that always comes into play. The whole band had actually been getting into Rockpile and Thin Lizzy when we were in the process of making the record, so that probably seeped in on this record a little.Inch1. NEVER TURN MY BACK ON YOU AGAIN2. WRONG GIRL3. SMALL TOWN PUNKS4. TOP OF THE WORLD5. EVERY TIME SHE WALKS ON BY6. LET'S FOOL AROUND TIL THE END OF THE WORLD7. WASTE OF TIME8. I WISH YOU WOULD9. BE LIKE YOU10. JENNIFER WREN & THE CROW I KNOW11. ROBERT & LUCY

Digital Blurb InchI'm so thrilled to get to see 6 String Drag again. They're as great as ever. Like reconnecting with a long-lost friend.Inch - Patterson Hood (Drive-By Truckers) In the mid to late '90s, the Raleigh, North Carolina-based 6 String Drag stood out as pioneers of the nascent alt-country movement, grinding it out in the clubs alongside Whiskeytown, Drive-By Truckers and Son Volt. The band's Steve Earle-produced album, High Hat, remains an undisputed classic. High Hat has been out of print for years and up until now, never available on Vinyl. On Jan 19th, 2018 Schoolkids Records proudly re-issues the alt-country classic with it's first ever Vinyl pressing which includes a download code of the remastered album and a bonus track. The remastered album will also be available on the CD and digitally worldwide. This is a must for all alt-country and Americana fans worldwide as it is considered one of the best alt-country albums of all time. After a 16-year hiatus, 6 String Drag reunited in 2014 and played a handful of reunion shows, including the 40th Anniversary of the legendary Schoolkids Records retail store in Raleigh, NC alongside Drivin' N' Cryin' and The Baseball Project, featuring Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate), Scott McCaughey (Minus 5) and Mike Mills (R.E.M.) This led to more shows and eventually to the of 2015's InchRoots Rock N RollInch (Royal Potato Family) 6 String Drag is also currently finishing up recording of their fourth studio album,InchTop of The WorldInch which will also be released on Schoolkids in-house tag in March of 2018.1.
