About this product
Vinyl Color blue and orange pinwheel. Originally released in 2019, Routine Maintenance, the second full-length (& second in the Aaron West trilogy) from Dan Campbell (frontman of Philadelphia pop punk legends, The Wonder Years), is a character study conducted through music. Picking up where the first installment of the trilogy, 2013's We Don't Have Each Other, leaves off, the album follows Brooklyn-native Aaron West as he formed his band (The Roaring Twenties) & travels across America, playing shows & meeting folks along the way. The album plays like a slice of life glimpse at America & a haunting interpretation of one's purpose in it. According to writer Hanif Abdurraqib, Routine Maintenance is the richest and most layered of the Aaron West albums from a standpoint of sound. With the final installment of the trilogy and a new tour on the way in 2024, Routine Maintenance is the bridge between the freshness of hurt & despair & the acceptance of suffering and recognition of one's flaws and responsibilities in the world.

With the third and final installment of the Aaron West trilogy, Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties presents In Lieu Of Flowers - a concept album that must be heard in full, an album that's very existence tests the noble idea of shared communal experience, and an album that exudes humanity through the cloud of existential dread and despair. From the heart and mind of Dan Campbell (frontman of Philadelphia pop punk legends, The Wonder Years), and produced by Ace Enders (The Early November), In Lieu Of Flowers tells a story of rock bottom and redemption in the form of raw emotion, beautifully-crafted storytelling, and exquisite instrumentation. Fully-backed by The Roaring Twenties (featuring members of The Wonder Years, Driver Friendly, and Dryjacket), the project that started with a man and his guitar has transformed into a rich slice of Americana harkening to Bruce Springsteen and The Mountain Goats. On their duet records, John Renbourn and Stefan Grossman meet on the common turf of American blues and Celtic fiddle tunes and airs. Under The Volcano is collection of seven duets, including an extended four-part work for which the album is named, and one solo by each of the players, the album has what has come to be the characteristic sound of the duo. Reflecting what Stefan quite accurately describes as Inchan interweaving of styles,Inch it is quite difficult, and somewhat pointless, to tell which of the two is playing the lead in most parts of the album. The original compositions are at once down-home and high-flown, brimming with contrapuntal funkiness, and the music manages to sound both loose and precise. Grossman and Renbourn contribute equally to the composition and arrangement of the traditional material. They aren't uptight about overdubbing or using the occasional electric guitar texture, either. But the lingering impression is one of crisp, snapping strings and air being moved by wooden-boxed guitars. InchThe material is a mix of traditional and original, the playing superb. Grossman and Renbourn combine their talents and mix of styles here to produce appealing instrumental music of rare beauty and taste.Inch - AllMusic
