About this product

Vivaldi's Concerti Ripieni are probably the most unusual works written by the Venetian composer. Some of these pieces, however, are particularly exceptional for various reasons, especially considering the artistic environment in early 18th century Venice. This recording presents Vivaldi's most brilliant and at the same time bizarre works from this genre. These compositional experiments are sometimes quite extreme and far ahead of their time, such as the enigmatic Concerto Conca, the solemn Sinfonia Al Santo Sepolcro, the avant-garde and at the same time archaic Concerto Alla Rustica. This recording is the first collaboration of the Academia Montis Regalis with Enrico Onofri as principal conductor. Album Tracks 1. Sinfonia [Il Coro Delle Muse] RV 149 in G Major 2. Concerto Conca RV 163 in B Flat Major 3. Concerto Madrigalesco RV 129 in D minor 4. Concerto Alla Rustica RV 151 in G Major 5. Sinfonia Ala Santo Sepolcro RV 169 in B minor 6. Concerto RV 159 in a Major 7. Concerto RV 127 in D minor 8. Concerto Ripieno RV 158 in a Major 9. Concerto RV 155 in G minor 10. Concerto RV 134 in E minor 11. Concerto RV 114 in C Major

To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ralph Vaughan Williams, pianist Mark Bebbington, members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Hilary Davan Wetton, present a recording of the composer's almost totally neglected orchestral work, Fantasia on the 'Old 104th' Psalm Tune, for solo piano, choir and orchestra premiered at the Three Choirs Festival in 1950. The album also features the Romance for viola and piano; the ever popular The Lark Ascending in the original 1914 version for solo violin and piano; and the early but ambitious Piano Quintet of 1903, which was embargoed until as late as the 1990s and scored for the same combination of instruments as Schubert's 'Trout' Quintet. Coin Ayroles Jansen - Hommage a Auguste Tolbecque - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

A concert cellist, composer, scholarly collector and instrument maker, Auguste Tolbecque left his mark on the histories of performing early music, collecting, and of reconstituting historical musical instruments. Whilst several studies have been devoted to his life as instrument maker and collector, the least explored aspect of his life remains his work as composer. Up until this moment, no recordings have been made of his works. The of this album is not only a commemoration of the centenary of his death but is also a testimony to the many-sided career of one of the most singular characters of French musical life during the second half of the 19th century. Brunello Accademia Dell'Annunciata Doni - Concerti E Sonate - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

To mark the 250th anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Tartini, Mario Brunello and the Accademia dell'Annunciata commemorate one of the great partnerships in the history of eighteenth-century music the relationship between Tartini and Antonio Vandini, a cellist born in Bologna (cradle of the Italian cello school), active in Padua for fifty years, and the author of the first biography of Tartini, whom he had known since the 1720s. Coupled here for the first time are Tartini's two cello concertos, probably intended for his friend and colleague, alongside the only surviving concerto by Vandini himself. According to reports of the period, he 'played in such a way as to make his instrument speak,' that instrument being the violoncello piccolo practiced by the virtuosos of Padua in the mid-eighteenth century, here played by Mario Brunello. The expressive heart of the concertos is to be found in the beautiful slow movements in Tartini the long, eloquent melodic arches create a free inner monologue, while the rich ornamentation recalls folk motifs from the Balkan region, which he may have known. In his marvelous Andantino, Vandini gives the cello a gently symmetrical Vivaldian melody that expands in dialogue with the orchestra. Album Tracks 1. Concerto in D Major for Cello, Strings and Basso Continuo 2. Sonata in G minor for Viola Da Gamba and Basso Continuo 3. Sonata in B Major for Viola Da Gamba and Basso Continuo 4. Sonata a Quattro in D Major GT 5.D01 for Strings 5. Concerto in a Major GT 1.A28 for Cello, Strings and Basso Continuo 6. Concerto in D Major GT 1.D34 for Cello, Orchestra and Basso Continuo 7. Concertone Terzo in C Major for Strings and Basso Continuo
