Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Ensemble - String Quartet / Souvenir de Florence - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Sir Neville Mariner leads the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields in Rossini's complete Sonate a Quattro. Written when the composer was only 12, these pieces reveal the young Rossini's fondness for Mozart and Haydn. Usually scored for two violins, cello and double bass, the works are often transcribed for string orchestra. Their purity, early classicism and innate virtuosity are beautifully displayed in these performances.

CURRENTS / ALL THAT FOLLOWS - Controlling chaos by hand, Currents balance invention and innate intensity on their new EP InchAll That FollowsInch. Especially strong, the quintet's closing track InchRise & FallInch revolves around propulsive drums, a riff call-and-response and a hook that holds onto the vestiges of a crumbling institution before asking a final query How will this end? With sold out shows and 100M streams, for Currents, the only answer is upwards. EXPLICIT
