I’ve never tried an Acer windows laptop but when I saw the Predator Helios Neo specs and features vs price ratio I had to give one a try. On unboxing I was pleased to see Acer had included a thin sleeve case. A small touch that is appreciated. I wish all manufactures included these on their premium line laptops. Acer even included one on a lower end chromebook I have. At first glance the aesthetics of the Helios Neo looked good. Feels good in the hand, nice and thin and feels solid. The power supply is your typical large brick, the noticeable difference is the cables are longer than average. This is a pro and a con. Good that you have longer cables to reach an outlet, but bad that you have more cable to wrap up and store. I’ll take the longer cables and deal with the slight inconvenience of storing. First power up, boot and windows setup was pretty typical, I was impressed at my first glance of the 2k OLED screen on the Acer splash screen. I did all of my prerequisites on a new pc, burn in, stress test, benchmarks, etc. Overall performance of the Acer Helios Neo showed numbers as I would expect from the hardware. The drive transfer rates however, were better than I expected. Many times on other brands I see lesser quality drives installed on premium laptops. In this case it appears Acer has included a nice fast drive. Some other ergonomic / aesthetic notes. When closed, the display portion of the laptop is slightly smaller than the main portion. There are no indents or cutouts of any type on the screen portion which makes it a little difficult to grab the screen to open it. My fingers just slide off the edge when trying to lift it up. I have to use my fingernail in the seam to lift the lid. A minor little annoyance, but it is something that stands out every time I open it. Also, it seems every mobile/portable device is prone to attract some smudges and fingerprints. This Acer seems to attract and hold on to my finger smudges more often and harder than other devices I’ve used. In day to day use of the Predator Helios Neo, this laptop is a nice snappy performer. Powered by the battery, even in the ‘balanced’ mode I’m getting good battery life and not noticing any lag with day to day work tasks. The fans stayed quiet in my day to day projects. Plugging it in, switching to turbo mode brings it up to another level of gaming performance. When stressed and working it, the fans will spin up and you will hear them, maybe even a little more than other laptops I’ve used. I noticed the air outlets seem to be angled up a little, so the hot air will blow ‘up’ and not heat up your desk/table or whatever you have the laptop sitting on. The keyboard on the Predator Helios Neo feels good and crisp, backlight RGB can be adjusted and gets pretty bright if you want it. The touchpad feels a little ‘cheap’ and ‘rattely’ to me. It is still usable and I don't mind using it over a mouse, but it didn't feel as premium as others I’ve used. Acer held back on the preloaded ‘bloatware’ for the most part. There are some Acer software apps preloaded for tuning the display, and mic, etc. Acer Intelligence just takes you to an app allowing you to install various AI type software packs if you choose. PredatorSense is also installed and useful for switching modes/etc. Some of the installed links just take you to the store to install other Acer software. For 3rd party, you will get nagged by at least: Mcafee, McAfee web, Dropbox, the Acer UEIP program that wants to track everything you do and send to acer, and one other nag to install something, but I forget what it was.. The OLED screen is nice and bright, crisp and clear with great colors and a pleasure to look at. The screen is more reflective than others I’ve used. Depending on your environment, reflections of yourself can be distracting and take away from the overall good quality of the screen. For ports, 3 of the 4 sides are filled with options. RJ45 network, USB A, MicroSD and 3.5mm audio/mic on the left side. 2*USB A and led status lights on the right side. Power in, HDMI, and 2 USB C on the rear. I would have liked at least one of the USB C’s on either side for convenience. I tried to charge the Predator with both USB C ports and from 2 different supplies that support 100w PD, and was unable to get the 100w charge rate. My meter only showed between 30-70w jumping around and never really settling. It would be nice to see the full 100w for ‘emergency’ charging if you forget the power brick. Sound quality is decent for a laptop. Not sure if it was the DTS audio or what, but the stereo separation was good and sounded crisp and clear. It doesn’t get real loud, but even at max it’s not distorting and still sounds good. Overall the Acer Predator Helios NEO 16s is a solid performer in the category, but it does have a few annoyances that may or may not distract from your experience. It is a great laptop but with the few items mentioned it is not quite perfect and gets 4 stars from me.

I am just an older guy who got into gaming for fun in my free time I was using my office desktop, but there were obviously restrictions doing it in other locations, and a traditional desktop is not optimal - too slow and poor image quality Looking at all of the options out there (and there are many) I settled on this Acer due to the features and competitive price Unboxing and set-up were a breeze. Acer spent some time creating packaging that would protect the laptop while minimizing the waste from the same packaging. The set-up was as simple as any other laptop. I expected maybe a few more steps, but it was roughly the same Firing it up and starting gaming was eyeopening First off, there is no image lag and screen transition were perfect. The images also had a very real look and feel to them which enhanced the experience Sound was superb and right in sync with the images. It really sounded top notch The laptop form was small and light, with a 16" screen. Perfect to lug around Lastly, I noticed that the laptop did not heat up and the fans were super quiet. They created the perfect heat management system with little external sound Overall I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend to friends and family
