Dave Stewart & the Spiritual Cowboys - Live At Rockpalast - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

In view of this broad range of activities it was not such a big surprise after the EURYTHMICS' (temporary) split to see DAVE STEWART pull THE SPIRITUAL COWBOYS out of his hat in 1990, a band that musically had little to nothing in common with the synth pop of his duo with Annie Lennox. Three guitars! Two drum kits! Up to now, that was only known from southern rock/ jam bands like THE ALLMAN BROTHERS, GRATEFUL DEAD and LYNYRD SKYNYRD. Behind one of the drum sets sat Martin Chambers whom STEWART had borrowed from Chrissie Hynde (PRETENDERS) - if Chambers did not hurry to the front edge of the stage to shake the maracas or sing backing vocals. Guitarist John Turnbull, too, with a history of being in IAN DURY & THE BLOCKHEADS was not an unknown figure within this seven person line-up. Yet, in all the coolness On the big stage DAVE STEWART and the SPIRITUAL COWBOYS are full power on immediately, unfolding their massive wit with the first Rickenbacker riff of the opener 'Love Child' - to draw on their full potential of repertoire during the following 80 or so minutes. The very BOWIE-esk 'Soul Years' is standing besides the wistful memory 'This Little Town' for that STEWART even unpacks his harmonica. The gospel inspired hymn 'Love Shines' lifts off no less (but totally different) than the smooth blue-eyed soul of 'Jack Talking' that not only reminds with it's title of the best funky times of the brothers Gibb. The epic 'Heaven & Earth' finds it's natural place here as well as the glam rock overtones of 'Fashion Bomb' and the psychedelic wall of sound of 'On Fire'. And how much the man enjoyed playing his Fender Stratocaster extensively! Not only in the track 'The Devil's Just Been Using You'. Album Tracks 1. Hey Johnny 2. Victim to Fame 3. Fashion Bomb 4. Soul Years 5. The Devil?S Just Been Using You 6. Jack Talking 7. This Little Town 8. Love Shines 1

DJ Travella - Mr Mixondo - VINYL LP

At only 19 years old, Dar Es Salaam's DJ Travella represents a new wave of singeli producers who are driving Tanzania's breakneck dance sound into fresh, innovative spaces. Unaffiliated with any of the well-known studios like Sisso and Pamoja, Hamadi Hassani's music points singeli's fusion of taraab and techno towards the stars, locating a cyber-singeli style that's dense, kinetic and unashamedly sexy.Hassani started producing at 15, and a few years later his debut is a jagged set of hi-nrg dance music that pulls influence from across the globe, folding together elements of dembow, rave, R&B, and trap. But nothing's straightforward opening track 'Crazy Beat Music Umeme 2' juxtaposes grinding 200bpm rhythmic intensity with urgent plucked strings, sounding like Timbaland conjuring a Thunderdome soundtrack for a Tanzanian street party.'Crazy Beat Music Umeme 4' is even more barbed, with neon rave synths and hand-jammed percussion that's one part 808 Mafia and one part DJ Diaki. On 'London Bandcamp', Travella meshes hi-speed singeli backbeats with downtempo dembow kicks, squeezing out unexpected sleaze in the process, while on 'London Uwoteeee' there's an almost romantic sparkle, with ethereal vocals draped across woodblock cracks and whistles. But Travella sounds most nimble when giving the nod to Atlanta, and his merging of earworm synth hooks and neck-snapping East African rhythms on tracks like 'London Jomon Beat' will leave no doubt that the young producer is capable of bending singeli completely to his will. Album Tracks 1. Crazy Beat Music Umeme 1 2. FL Beat 3. Crazy Beat Music Umeme 2 4. Tambasana 5. Chapa Bakola Music Bass 6. Dope 2 7. London Bandcamp 8. 21212 9. Good Beat 10. London Uwoteee 11. Beat Kikosi 12. London Jomon Beat 13. Kaz0
