After a quarter century of nearly nonstop activity, dystopian Detroit synth-punk institution ADULT. Have perfected a strain of stylistic cohesion in the album , Inchbut for this we wanted something that's falling apart.Inch Becoming Undone, the 9th official full-length by co-founders Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller, explicitly succeeds in this aim, simultaneously rejecting and reflecting the planetary discord that inspired it. Begun in the latter half of 2020 against a backdrop of unprecedented flux and seismic isolation, the duo kickstarted their muse by sourcing fresh additions to the rig a vocal loop pedal for Kuperus and Roland percussion pads for Miller. Reconnecting with legacy influences like the politicized industrial percussion of Test Department and the queasy miscreant synthetics of TG's 20 Jazz Funk Greats sparked a series of fruitfully frenetic sessions, centered on themes of impermanence and dissonance. Miller's rationale is blunt InchWe weren't interested in melody or harmony since we didn't see the world having that.Inch From the tense technoid blitz of InchUndoing / UndoneInch to the twitchy EBM of InchFools (We Are...)Inch and InchI Am Nothing,Inch the sides bristle with strident acidic revolt and black leather sequential circuits, unhinged and unforgiving. Elsewhere, slower tempos of purgatorial unraveling (InchNormative Sludge,Inch InchShe's Nice LookingInch) showcase a breadth of vocal FX, Kuperus sounding alternately indignant and possessed, decrying the crimes, fears, and failings of a deluded world. Throughout, the band's chemistry crackles with revulsion and strobe-lit dissent, equal parts exorcism and denunciation. InchHumans have always been pretty terrible,Inch Kuperus explains. InchBut every year the compromises of culture just accelerate.Inch Becoming Undone is also freighted with a more personal pain, as Kuperus' father passed away

Over the course of the last two decades, Detroit-based duo Adult. (Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller) have released six albums and nineteen EPs and singles across some of our favorite labels Mute, Ghostly International, Thrill Jockey, Clone Records, Third Man Records, and their own tag, the revered Ersatz Audio. The album, This Behavior, began as 23 demos written and recorded in a remote cabin in the woods of Northern Michigan during the dead of winter. In total isolation, and with a reduced amount of gear (a modified version of their live setup) on the cabin's kitchen table, the duo were completely immersed in an incessant inescapable studio of their own making. The result is 10 tracks of uncompromising dark electronics, showcasing Adult.'s return to aggressive and energetic dancefloor mastery. Album opener InchThis BehaviorInch alongside the follow-up InchViolent ShakesInch (which ascends into synths wailing like warning sirens over Kuperus's commanding vocals) set the stage for an on-edge listen, while the heartbreaking InchSilent ExchangeInch unfolds as a beautiful sad synth dirge. InchPerversions of HumankindInch breaks the mood - driving the listener into a slow and low groove before the frantic album midpoint of InchIrregular PleasureInch.

2013 album from the Indie duo. The Way Things Fall is the band's long-awaited follow-up to their album, Why Bother? (2007). This is a record that sounds both focused and coherent, flowing with a conceptual ease. Inch[The album] flowed efficiently and agreeably for us,Inch says Adam Lee Miller. InchWe have never worked better together. We believe this is because we exorcised all of our demons through our past records, we have no baggage, we started anew. We left behind the self-conscious adolescents.Inch And indeed, Adult have never sounded so self-assured, so poised, and so vital.
