This brand new 1/43 scale diecast model of the French Char B-1 Heavy Tank "Indochine," representing the 3e Compagnie, 15e Battalion in France, 1940, is produced by AFVs of WWII and comes in the manufacturer’s original unopened box. It features a detailed exterior, true-to-scale detail, and is made of diecast metal with some plastic parts. The model comes in a plastic display showcase and has no openings. Dimensions are approximately L-5.5, W-2, H-3 inches. The Char B1 originated from the Char de Bataille concept conceived by General Jean-Baptiste Eugene Estienne in the 1920s. Prototypes were built in 1926 and completed in 1930, later modified to meet evolving specifications as a Char de Manoeuvre. The "B" in Char B refers to the project designation, not Bataille. Production began in 1934 with orders for seven tanks, and several manufacturers were involved, including Renault, AMX, FCM, FAMH, and Schneider. The Char B1 was costly, approximately 1.5 million French Francs per unit, and reflected a French debate between producing strong heavy tanks versus many cheaper light tanks, which influenced procurement and limited overall production.
