About This Item
This is a brand new 1/43 scale diecast model of the German Sd. Kfz. 184 Elefant Heavy Tank Destroyer "Schwere Panzerjäger Abteilung 653, Ukraine, 1944" by AFVs of WWII. The model comes in its brand new box and features a detailed exterior with true-to-scale detail. It is an officially licensed product and comes in a plastic display showcase. Made of diecast metal with some plastic parts, the model does not have any openings and arrives in the manufacturer's original unopened packaging. It measures approximately 7.5" in length, 2.75" in width, and 2.75" in height. The Elefant, stemming from the Porsche design for the PzKpfw VI Tiger, was converted into a tank destroyer after Henschel received the contract for the new tank. Development was hurried to meet Hitler's demand for readiness for the 1943 Russian front offensive, resulting in many units breaking down during their first action at the Battle of Kursk. Limited mobility, insufficient armor, and the absence of machine guns made them vulnerable to Soviet gunners and close-quarter attacks. Survivors were later withdrawn to Italy, where ongoing reliability issues and lack of spare parts limited their effectiveness.
