Jean-Marie Verret (fiddle) and his sister Lise Verret (piano) present the repertoire of their ancestors on this fine album. As the original notes assert, the pieces recorded show the continuity of a musical tradition within a single family and bear witness to the special care that the past and present generations have taken to maintain it.

Joseph Allard, called Prince of the Fiddlers, was born near Montr al in 1873 and learned the rudiments of his art from his father, also a brilliant fiddler. Allard's light and supple bowing, coupled with matchless fingering won him honors and fame, and he recorded the spirited sides presented here between 1928 and 1933.
