About this product
A collection of landmark recordings of residents from the Africatown neighborhood in Mobile, AL, Ancestor Sounds features descendants from the Clotilda, the last ship to bring enslaved people across the Atlantic to America. Conceived by GRAMMY-winning producer Ian Brennan (Tinariwen, Ramblin' Jack Elliott) and filmmaker and photographer Marilena Umuhoza Delli, the project features accompaniment from the local community as well as ambient recordings from the factories that surround and pollute the community. Meant as an impressionistic document rather than a definitive historical narrative, it was captured on-site as live, first takes. The outdoor nature of the recordings graphically renders the encroaching and ominous industrial sounds and foregrounds the environmental racism that has plagued the community. These surprising and often arresting Inchancestor soundsInch resonate across centuries and continents on this important, irreplaceable document.

Last Ex is a new instrumental rock ensemble led by Simon Trottier and Olivier Fairfield, long active in Quebec's experimental/punk scene, though perhaps best known as core members of Timber Timbre, which spawned the Last Ex project. With it's combination of assured lyricism, cinematic guitars, dusky analog atmospherics and taut percussion, this is an instrumental rock album of superb compositional and melodic sensibility, balancing expressiveness and restraint, atmosphere and detail, bound by a highly original approach to production.

Panamá 77 - a vibrant and verdant suite of multi-textural, jazz-laced psychedelic instrumental folk-funk - is the debut album by Panamá-born drummer and DJ Daniel Villarreal. At the time of the album's 2022 , Villarreal was one of the busiest players on the Chicago scene, primarily known for work behind the kit with Dos Santos, Neal Francis, Wild Belle, Valebol, Rudy de Anda, and many more. For this lead artist debut he engages a diverse array of friends and collaborators - including Bardo Martinez (Chicano Batman), Jeff Parker (Tortoise), Marta Sofia Honer (Adrian Younge), Anna Butterss (SML, Jeff Parker ETA IVtet), and Aquiles Navarro (Irreversible Entanglements) - to create a vibrant and verdant suite of multi-textural psychedelic instrumental folk-funk.Long out of print, dig this fresh InchBaby BlueInch color vinyl pressing for 2026 (chosen in honor of DV's classic baby-blue Mercedes), a limited edition of 1000 copies worldwide.RIYL Herbie Hancock, William Onyeabor, Francis Bebey, Dos Santos, Makaya McCraven, Jeff Parker, El Michels Affair, Willie Colon, NOMO, Roy Ayers
