About this product

Presses Universitaires de France and Fremeaux & Associates offer this biography of King Arthur, told and explained by Alban Gautier, professor of medieval history at the University of Caen. Did King Arthur really exist? Arthur is a character, at the same time historical, literary, and mythical. From Britain in the fifth century, during the decline of the Roman Empire, until today, Arthur has continued to exist under many faces. His heroic figure has been used for diametrically opposing political purposes, among these the Welsh people during the ninth century, the Plantagenets, and the Kings of the Tudor dynasty. To explore the character in his time, one must put him back into his era. It is this historical enigma that Alban Gautier proposes here to explore.

The Presses Universitaires de France and Frémeaux & Associés offer this biography of Louis XIV, analyzed and explained by Stéphane Guerre, associate professor of history and doctor of modern history, specializing in the reign of Louis XIV. Introducing Louis XIV to an audience who already thinks they know the Sun King from school textbooks, that is the challenge and the richness of this biography. Far from the image of the monarch deciding everything, all alone, the historian depicts a man surrounded throughout his life by important statesmen, like Mazarin educating the child-king, and recalls that the exercise of power, even absolute, is also a collective work. By drawing the portrait of the monarch, it is also that of the French society of the 17th century that Stéphane Guerre sketches.

Los Angeles' Metal Church stand as one of the most innovative and unfortunately, one of the underappreciated heavy metal bands of the 1980's. And 'The Dark', their second album, is without any doubt, the masterpiece of their hard-driven air-guitar assault. Every track on this album, from the InchTon Of BricksInch attacking your ears at the beginning, to the incredible lament of InchWatch The Children PrayInch halfway through, right to the equally melodic and pounding InchBurial At SeaInch and InchWestern AllianceInch at the end, is a classic. David Wayne's vocals did a great job on 'The Dark', giving the album a no-nonsense metal consistency and quality.
